University of Maine Application Deadlines for Fall 2027

UMaine Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility runs on two thresholds: an academic floor and an English-proficiency floor. Both are set from the official UMaine graduate test scores page and the international UG page. UMaine is an access-oriented flagship — most Indian applicants who meet the stated thresholds are admitted to their chosen major.

• UG general entry (recommended): Class XII from a CBSE, ICSE or recognised state board at 65 to 75% aggregate, with prerequisite subjects for engineering, nursing and business majors.
• PG general entry (recommended): A four-year Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (roughly 65%).
• Engineering PG: Bachelor’s in the same or a closely related engineering discipline.

Before you apply: UMaine’s UG review is holistic. The Class XII percentage floor is a first-pass filter — the essay, teacher recommendation and any documented STEM Olympiad or research exposure carry weight in the merit-aid decision.

UMaine Application Process Step by Step

The end-to-end process runs through one of two platforms for UG (Common App or ApplyMaine) and the Grad Application Portal for PG. Both close at 23:59 US Eastern time on the stated deadline, which is roughly 09:30 IST the next morning.

1. Pick your platform. UG applicants file on the ApplyMaine portal or the Common Application. PG applicants file on the Grad Application Portal.
2. Create an account and start the application. Enter personal details, intended major and intended intake.
3. Upload academic records. Class XII marksheet plus Bachelor’s transcripts for PG; NACES-accredited evaluation may be required for certain PG programmes.
4. Add English test scores. Send official IELTS / TOEFL / PTE / DET scores directly from the testing body.
5. Upload SOP, LORs and CV (PG) or personal essay and teacher recommendation (UG).
6. Pay the application fee of USD 65 (around INR 6,218) on the ApplyMaine portal or Common App.
7. Submit and track the application on the same portal. UMaine will email a checklist of any pending items within 5 to 7 working days.

UMaine Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Decision timelines depend on the level and deadline. UG Early Action decisions land in late January; UG Regular Decision by mid-March; graduate decisions arrive on a rolling basis, typically 4 to 6 weeks after a complete application.

• Offer letter: Issued by the Office of International Programs after the academic and financial file is clean.
• Acceptance deadline: UG admits confirm by 1 May 2027 (National Candidates’ Reply Date); PG admits usually get 30 days from the offer date.
• Financial document review: Follows offer acceptance; the I-20 form for the F-1 visa is issued after this step.
• Deferral policy: One-term deferral available in most programmes; requires a written request and re-verification of financial documents.

UMaine Documents Required for Indian Applicants

UMaine’s document set is standard for a US flagship. Every item should be a scan of the original in English, or a certified translation where applicable.

• Valid passport bio-page scan.
• Class XII marksheet and passing certificate (UG applicants).
• Bachelor’s degree certificate plus consolidated marksheets (PG applicants).
• NACES-accredited transcript evaluation for certain graduate programmes.
• Statement of Purpose (SOP) — one to two pages, program-specific.
• Two to three Letters of Recommendation (LORs) — from professors for PG, from teachers for UG.
• Updated CV or resume.
• Official English test score report (IELTS / TOEFL / PTE / DET).
• Official GRE or GMAT score report if the target programme requires it.
• Financial affidavit and bank statement covering at least the first year of cost of attendance.

What Improves an Indian Applicant’s Odds

Strong Class XII or Bachelor’s percentage well above the floor, a clean English test on the first attempt, a program-specific SOP that names two or three UMaine faculty by research area, and Early Action submission for UG.
