Texas A&M Galveston houses the Texas A&M Maritime Academy. The 130 acres Mitchell campus is the island campus located on Pelican Island in Galveston harbor. It has immediate access to the ocean, Port of Galveston, Port of Houston, and estuarine areas.

TAMUG Residence

Texas A&M University at Galveston residential community houses more than 1200 residents including domestic and international students in 3 residence halls. Students can apply for housing by submitting an application to the housing portal with an application fee of 75 USD to reserve their spot in the residence halls.

Early Move-In approval can be requested through the Early Arrival application via the housing portal. The on-campus residents should purchase meal plans separately. The cost of on-campus housing for 2021 academic year are as follows:

Texas A&M University, Galveston Programs

Texas A&M University offers academic degrees, research, continuing education, and public service programs in sciences, administration, engineering, business, transportation, and liberal arts. Graduate programs of Texas A&M University, Galveston are offered through the departments of marine sciences, marine biology, and maritime administration.

Four-year ocean-oriented undergraduate degrees are offered across 8 departments with excellence in business, oceanographic and physical sciences, biological sciences, engineering and transportation and liberal arts and 6 minors. Computer science and technical writing courses are taught to all students irrespective of the majors.

Texas A&M University, Galveston Scholarships/Financial Aids

International freshmen can apply for international freshmen scholarship through ApplyTexas Application or Coalition application before December 1. The SAT/ACT test scores are considered for the review process.

Texas A&M University (TAMUG) also grants scholarships for international transfer and continuing students. Texas A&M University Galveston students are, however, not eligible for International Texas Public Education Grants and International Student Financial aid. 

  • International students can also qualify for International Student Financial Aid Application depending on their visa status. Completion of the application does not necessarily guarantee aid. The priority deadline to apply is May 1.
  • International Texas Public Education Grant (ITPEG) is administered by the State of Texas to provide financial assistance to bachelor’s, graduate, and professional degree students. Students can apply through ISFAA for the session 2021-2022 by late January 2021.
  • Students can also take up short loans financed by Texas A&M University former students. The interest rate is 8% per annum with $10 processing charges in each loan amount. The application can be accessed here.
  • Emergency Tuitions and Fees Loans assist students to pay tuition fees for the university. The simple interest loan is 5% and the processing charge is $10 for each loan. Work-Study Program:

Students enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours of credit during fall and spring semesters, with a minimum CGPA 2.0, are eligible for on-campus work-study programs. They can work up to 20 hrs/week during the fall/spring semester and up to 40 hrs/week during break and summer months. All Texas A&M University student employment are handled online through the workday system.

  • The training ship serves as a floating classroom, laboratory, and dormitory for the U.S. Maritime Service cadets during their annual summer training.
  • The campus has more than 60 student organizations for academic, professional, religious, community, campus service, and just-for-fun student groups. The department of campus recreation hosts Intramural sports, club sports, outdoor programs, Aquatics, Fitness, and wellness.
