GMAT, GRE, and Work Experience
Miami Herbert requires a GMAT or GRE score for the full-time MBA. The recent class average GMAT sits near 640, and the school looks for two or more years of professional experience. Indian applicants without traditional experience should highlight leadership in extracurriculars, internships, or a family business.
MBA Interview Process
Miami Herbert conducts interviews by invitation after application review. Indian candidates typically receive a Zoom interview invite within three to four weeks of submission. The application fee for the MBA is USD 100 (around INR 9,592), payable on the graduate portal.
Reality check: If your target is Fall 2027 with an F-1 visa, Round 3 (February) is a safer cut-off than Round 4 for Indian applicants managing visa slot availability.
University of Miami Application Process Step by Step
University of Miami uses different portals for UG and PG entry. Undergraduates apply through the Common Application. Graduate applicants apply directly through the UMiami Graduate School portal.
- Create an account on the platform. UG applicants use the Common Application, which opened on 31 July 2026 for the 2026-27 cycle. PG applicants use the University of Miami Graduate portal.
- Pay the application fee. UG applicants pay USD 70 (around INR 6,714) on the Common App. PG applicants pay USD 85 to 100 (around INR 8,153 to 9,592) on the UMiami Graduate portal.
- Complete the profile section. Include academic history, activities, and awards from Class IX onward for UG.
- Submit the essay or Statement of Purpose. UG applicants write the Common App personal essay plus a UMiami-specific short essay.
- Upload official transcripts. Class XII marksheet for UG, or Bachelor’s transcript plus a NACES credential evaluation for PG.
- Send test scores. Report IELTS, TOEFL, or DET scores directly from the testing agency using UMiami’s institution code.
- Add recommendation letters. Two counsellor or teacher LORs for UG, three academic or professional LORs for PG.
- Submit financial documents. Bank statement or sponsor affidavit demonstrating one year of tuition plus living costs.
Insider note: Indians should request WES or ECE evaluations at least four weeks before the target deadline, since Indian transcript verification can take three to five weeks.
University of Miami Admission Decision Timeline
University of Miami communicates undergraduate decisions on published dates tied to each application plan. Graduate decisions release on a rolling basis once each round closes.
- UG Early Decision I: decisions release mid-December 2026, with enrolment deposit due 1 January 2027.
- UG Early Action: decisions release late January 2027, and admits have until 1 May 2027 to reply.

Offers from UMiami are typically conditional on final Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts, English test scores, and financial documentation. Indian admits should submit these promptly to receive the I-20 form for their F-1 visa. Deferrals are considered case-by-case, mostly for medical or military reasons.
University of Miami Documents Required for Indian Students
Indian applicants to University of Miami must upload a complete document set on the Common App or the Graduate portal. Missing paperwork is the most common cause of applications being rolled to a later round or Regular Decision.
- Passport bio page: valid for at least six months beyond the intended arrival date.
- Class XII marksheet and provisional certificate (UG) or Bachelor’s transcript (PG), both official and sealed.
- Credential evaluation report: WES, ECE, IEE, or another NACES member (PG applicants only).
- Statement of Purpose or Common App essay: plus a UMiami-specific short response for UG.
- Letters of Recommendation: two counsellor or teacher LORs for UG, three academic or professional LORs for PG.

- Financial documents: bank statement, loan sanction letter, or sponsor affidavit for the first year.

- GRE or GMAT score report: if the target program requires standardised tests.
University of Miami Acceptance Rate
University of Miami admitted 19 percent of the 53,858 applicants in the most recent published admissions cycle. Indian applicants face similar selectivity, with admits typically holding Class XII marks of 85 percent or higher and standardised test scores well above the school’s floor.
Course-Level Selectivity at UMiami
The Herbert Business School and the College of Engineering are the most competitive schools at the undergraduate level. Communication, marine science, and arts programs run softer admit rates. At the postgraduate level, the full-time MBA and MS Computer Science attract the largest international pools, sharpening yield-focused review.
What Boosts an Indian Applicant’s Chances
UMiami weighs Class XII rigour, essays, LORs, and extracurricular depth heavily. Applicants from CBSE, ISC, or IB streams with 90 percent plus, a strong Common App essay, and a clear rationale for choosing Miami over other US schools tend to admit at higher rates than the headline number suggests. For the ranking context that shapes selectivity, see the ranking band.
Insider note: Applying in Early Decision I or Early Action improves admit odds by five to eight percentage points versus Regular Decision, based on UMiami’s published class profile.
USA Student Visa Process for University of Miami
Indian admits to University of Miami apply for the F-1 student visa, the standard non-immigrant visa for degree study in the United States. After UMiami issues the I-20 form, students pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,572), complete the DS-160 form online, and pay the visa application fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,745).
The F-1 interview at a US consulate in India tests academic intent, funding sufficiency, and post-study plans. Applicants must show liquid funds covering one full year of tuition and living costs, typically demonstrated through bank statements, loan sanction letters, or notarised sponsor affidavits. STEM master’s admits qualify for a 36-month OPT extension after the standard 12-month OPT.
2026 update: US consulate slots for F-1 visas open up to 365 days before program start. Indian admits should book at least 90 days before UMiami orientation to avoid last-minute stress.
For consulate steps, funding rules, and interview tips, refer to the USA F-1 student visa guide.
Tips and Application Checklist for University of Miami
The following tips and checklist are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at University of Miami over recent admission cycles. They mix judgement points with timeline anchors that keep the process on track.
- Book English tests 10 weeks before deadline to allow one retake if scores fall short of IELTS 6.5.
- Request Class XII transcripts 8 weeks before deadline since CBSE and ISC take three to five weeks to certify.
- Start WES or ECE credential evaluation 8 weeks before PG deadlines to avoid rush charges.
- Draft the Common App essay in August, before UMiami-specific short answers become a distraction.
- Front-load Miami Herbert to Round 2 (December) for optimal scholarship allocation.
- Choose Early Action over Early Decision if you want to compare financial aid across US schools.
- Confirm LOR writers by mid-September and share a resume plus target majors with them.
- Prepare financial documents by 1 November so the I-20 can be issued within 10 business days of admission.
Indian applicants applying to University of Miami placements-linked programs such as the Herbert MBA and MS Business Analytics should target Round 1 or Round 2 to align with fall recruiting cycles on campus. Missing these rounds narrows the on-campus interview window that summer internship offers rely on.

- The University of Miami(UM) is known for its friendly and diverse pool of faculty and student.
- UM situated in heart of most iconic city Miami, It has a lake inside the main campus.
- There are numerous clubs(especially fof every country) and that helps you to grow and provide ample of opportunities for students to get involved.
Dislikes
- Miami is expensive city, the students often find that cost of living is very high as compared to other city.
- The carrer services are subpar and they have once in year career fair ( It's quite difficult to get a good incampus job).
- UM don't have dormitories for graduate students and the one for undergrad are very expensive.
Scholarship
- Yes, I received an annual scholarship of $110,000. I got the UM PhD fellowship. There are many scholarships available for undergrads and grad students but you have to apply for that.
- You can also opt for other scholarships apart from university scholarships. Many of my batchmates received a similar kind of scholarship. Most of the PhD's get scholarships, even for master's students. Mostly for PhDs around $100,000 and for masters $50,000. The medicine students get more scholarship money than other engineering and science students.

Overview
The University offered everything I was looking for in a college! The nursing program is well-known, you couldn't ask for a better location and the University has a great overall reputation! Plus, I wanted a break from winters :)
Scholarship
I received some merit-based aid that was immediately applied to my account. I did not apply for any extra scholarships, so I am not familiar with the process.
