Likes
- It is a very peaceful place to study.
- I feel safe because the public transport is clean and frequent. It is free to public as well. It makes my commute very easy.
- I love the facilities provided by the university especially technology lending options from the university library, free cab services at dedicated slots at night.
Dislikes
- I have heard that there are many grocery stores around my friend’s place who stay in the US. This is what lacks here. There are only 2 Indian grocery stores and are quite far from each other.
Course Curriculum
- The syllabus is relevant and gives exposure to varied technologies.
- Multiple research options are available and classes can be selected based on one’s voice.
- An elective will typically have 30 students in class while a core class will have around 60 students.
- It might vary based on the students interest in enrollment for the semester.
Admission Experience
- University of Arizona Data Science program is one of the highly rated Data Science programs in the US. There is a two step admission screening. I got to meet the actual people who selected my admission.
- The curriculum has varied topics from the Computer Science field which allowed me to go beyond Data Science.
- My scores: IELTS 7.5, GRE is not mandatory. I have only given IELTS exam to join the University.
Faculty
- The faculty is very friendly. You can approach them during office hours and they are always ready to help the students.
- Tyler Millhouse is an excellent professor who was an awesome supporter of students in crisis.
Campus Life
- There are so many clubs and the university hosts multiple events around the year.
- From networking events to fun activities to photo booths to career fairs, one can expect these all year round.
- There are events specifically for international students as well.
Part Time Jobs
- The hourly rate for part time is around 14$.
- Students can apply through handshake or directly approach supervisors for any openings. Usually applying on handshake and meeting them in person helps.
- As an international student one can work for maximum of 20 hours a week. It is easy to find a job but might not be able to work complete 20 hours every week.
- Most students can expect TA, RA or GA in second or third semester.
Placement
- I am not pretty sure on the numbers but networking around with professors really helped people to get full time job.
Accommodation
- I searched online and scheduled online tours with them.
- My monthly rent for accomodation is 2500 USD per month for 4 people in a 2B2B flat. It included dryer washer tv and furniture.
Exams
- Any English proficiency test is enough.
- No GRE is required for admission.
- A clear statement of purpose, 2 letter of recommendation and a resume is required for the application.
Fees
- The total fee is around 62K USD which is approximately 53 lakhs INR. It is around 18K USD per semester.
