The US has been a lifelong dream for my father. He wanted to study in the US but could not because of financial restrictions. I made his dream come true. I'm a person who's very much into research and this is the country that tops in this aspect. My university is known to be one of the top institutions in the United States and the program I'll be studying in (AI) is basically the one that has a huge impact on everyone's life in the future. I wanted to be a part of the esteemed university given its rich background which would allow me to live in safe hands.

Course Curriculum

8

My course syllabus is extremely advanced and up-to-date. I am 3 weeks into college and I have already covered whatever I was taught during my B.Tech in these subjects. The curriculum is decent and there is a lot of self-study going on because there are only 3 lectures per week, lasting 3 hours each. In the remaining time, we are given assignments to do and projects to work on.

Faculty

9

The faculty are extremely friendly. The classes are small and contain only 20-30 students during every class. Hence, the chances of having one-on-one interactions are extremely high and there's no use in being scared of the professors because of the nature around them. I like Dr.Srijita Das and Dr.Bruce Maxim. They have been the most friendly and research-oriented professors that I have encountered so far! Dr.Srijita helped one of my seniors get a PhD at the University of Wisconsin with her referral for next year. It is said that faculties who trust in you the most would definitely help to give referrals in the future over here.

Campus Life

10

There are over 150 registered student clubs in the campus and all of these clubs are extremely active. Hence, we get to have activities almost every single day. They are engaging and I'm loving my time here as these activities are more stress-busters and relieve us from the academic pressure. My college has 3 campuses, Ann Arbor, Flint and Dearborn. In my campus, there is a 4-floor library which doesn't look like it opened in 1955. It's totally up-to-date. We have a Henry Ford hospital right next to the campus and as the entire country might know, this college is extremely famous for the sports teams it has for basketball, rugby, soccer and baseball. I'm sorry but I do not think I can list all 150+ clubs of my campus. There are engaging extracurricular activities like game and karaoke events, dance nights, etc. The Student Activities Board is an active club that I'm planning to be a part of. They are also taking us to Cedar Point in Ohio as a one-day amusement park trip :)

Placement

7

The research opportunities in AI are extensive here. I am currently working as a Research Assistant (RA) for 2 professors, Dr.Srijita Das and Dr.Kais Riani. To be eligible to become an RA, one has to study here for a semester. Given I have a decent research profile and had a proper interview with the professors, they have agreed to allow me to work under them. In general, when there was no recession, it is said that the students had really good placements here. Due to the current recession, we are currently struggling to find internships and jobs. The companies that come during the Career fairs are hiring Graduate students in the Automobile field. I am not aware of the median salaries and student statistics as it has not been disclosed during our orientation.

Accommodation

Off Campus

We're staying at Fairlane Woods in a 2-bedroom 1.5 Bathroom apartment. We are a room of 4 people and the rent costs $2085 per month. It is a very huge room (1300 sqft in size!). The groceries cost around $150 per month, electricity bill $150 per month and $60 wifi in SuiteSolutions with a speed of 350mbps.

Exams

- My score in GRE was 315 out of 346 and in IELTS was 7.5 out of 9. - CBSE - 91% (10th), TSBIE - 97.4% (12th), IIT Jodhpur - B.Tech Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Engineering 7.17 (UG) - Requirements: I had to submit my 500-word SoP, 2 LoRs and my CV during the application to this university. I do not know what my professors have included in my LoRs, but I can speak about the SoP as it was written totally by me. I wrote the SoP in a professional manner with the help of a person, with catchy words throughout. I've written why I chose the field, and then my experiences with the field (Artificial Intelligence). Then, I also wrote that I wanted to collaborate with a few professors by exploring their work and what I wanted to work under them. I did not have any interviews during the application process.

Fees

It costs $12500 per semester, including the health insurance and the $5000 scholarship. All international students get the $5000 scholarship.
