Slippery Rock University Admission 2027
Slippery Rock University runs three intakes for international applicants: Fall (August), Spring (January), and Summer (for MBA and select Health Sciences). The Fall intake is the main entry point for Indian students.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 international deadline | 01 October 2026 | Select programmes only; verify course-level availability |
| Fall 2027 international deadline (main) | 01 May 2027 | Applies to most UG and PG programmes |
| Summer 2027 MBA deadline | 01 March 2027 | MBA cohort start; earliest annual intake for MBA |
| Health Sciences deadlines (DPT, PA, OT) | 01 October 2026 to 15 October 2026 | Program-specific CASPA/CentralApp portals apply |
| Programme start | August 2027 (Fall) | Orientation typically starts one week before classes |
Credential verification through WES or a NACES-approved agency should begin at least 8 weeks before the deadline. Financial certification (bank statement showing full first-year cost of attendance) is required before an I-20 can be issued; the USA application timeline covers portal steps.
Planning note: SRU’s international office recommends applying at least 90 days before the target intake so the I-20 has time for a US embassy F-1 visa slot; DPT and PA applicants must file through their program-specific portals rather than the general SRU application.

Slippery Rock University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Slippery Rock University asks Indian applicants for verified transcripts, an English test, and a passport bio-page copy at the point of submission.
Postgraduate applicants must provide:
- Bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); professional Health Sciences programmes typically ask for 60% or CGPA 6.0/10
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 62 (0-120 legacy scale) or 4.0 (new 1-6 band scale), IELTS 6.0 overall, or Duolingo English Test 95
- Course-by-course credential evaluation through WES or a NACES-approved agency
- MBA candidates: GMAT/GRE frequently waived for applicants with a strong undergraduate record
Undergraduate applicants must provide:
- Class 12 with 65% to 85% (recommended) depending on programme; STEM tracks favour the upper end
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 62 or IELTS 6.0 or Duolingo 95
- SAT/ACT is test-optional for international freshmen
Key insight: SRU accepts an IELTS 6.0 overall with no band-specific minimum, which is unusually forgiving for a US public university; applicants below this threshold can pursue conditional admission through an ESL pathway partner.
Slippery Rock University Acceptance Rate 2027
Slippery Rock University reports an overall 71% acceptance rate per US News Best Colleges 2026, making it a moderately selective public university in Pennsylvania. Graduate acceptance varies sharply by programme: Health Sciences (DPT, PA Studies, OT) admits under 15% of applicants, while most Master’s, MBA, and MEd programmes admit 60% to 80% of qualified candidates.
Rate movement over recent editions has held between 70% and 76%, with modest year-on-year tightening as SRU expands international recruiting.
Reality check: A 71% headline rate does not extend to Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, or Occupational Therapy programmes; Indian applicants targeting those tracks should treat SRU as competitive and build a two-university application set.

Slippery Rock University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Slippery Rock University spreads across a 660-acre rural campus in Butler County, Pennsylvania, roughly 50 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport.
- Location and transport: Rural campus town; SRU shuttle runs to Pittsburgh weekends; Greyhound stops at Butler for $15 one-way
- Housing: On-campus residence for all first-year students; international students are guaranteed housing during their first two semesters
- Notable facility: Aebersold Student Recreation Centre, Robert M. Smith Student Centre, and Bailey Library with 24-hour study zones
- Indian student community: Roughly 90 international students across all nationalities per Fall 2025 data; Indian Students Association hosts Diwali and Holi on campus
What Indian students say: The small-town setting keeps living costs low and lets students focus on academics; the trade-off is limited Indian grocery access, though a 30-minute drive to Cranberry Township covers most needs. Weekend campus shuttles to Pittsburgh give access to internships and cultural events.
Slippery Rock University Scholarships 2027
Slippery Rock University offers two named scholarships specifically for international students, alongside a blanket out-of-state tuition discount awarded on admission.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| International Tuition Discount | Automatic tuition reduction | $3,500/year (₹3.32 lakh) | All new international UG students; retain with 2.5 CGPA | On admission |
| Provost Scholarship for Global Diversity and Academic Achievement | Merit-based | $1,500/year (₹1.42 lakh) | Full-time international UG; retain with 3.0 CGPA | On admission |
| Presidential Award for Academic Excellence | Renewable merit award | $500/year (₹47,415) | Full-time international UG after first year; 3.5 CGPA | Renewed annually |
[Source: Slippery Rock University International Costs and Scholarships]
Indian PG applicants targeting the MS or MBA can also apply for external funding through the GRE-linked Sallie Mae and MPOWER international student loans that partner with US public universities. External awards through the PA Foundation open each Spring for Fall enrolment.
Planning note: The $3,500 international discount is automatic and non-competitive, but the $1,500 Provost Scholarship needs a 3.0 CGPA to renew; a below-3.0 first semester means the scholarship lapses without notice.

SRU does not appear in QS World University Rankings 2027, THE World University Rankings 2026, or ARWU 2025, which is typical for US regional public universities that focus on undergraduate and professional master’s teaching rather than research output.
Key insight: A US News Regional North rank is the metric that matters for F-1 visa officers assessing SRU applicants; the #20 Top Public Schools placement signals stronger value-for-money than most private peers in the same rank band.

Slippery Rock University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Slippery Rock University reports that most graduates enter the workforce or graduate school within six months of commencement, with career outcomes concentrated in education, healthcare, business, and public service across Pennsylvania and Ohio.
- Employment outcomes: Overall placement rate not publicly disclosed; career services report strong intake into regional employers
- Median starting salary: Not disclosed by SRU; market median for PA regional public MBA graduates falls between $55,000 and $65,000 (₹52.2 lakh to ₹61.6 lakh) per US Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Sectors and employers: Education districts, UPMC and Allegheny Health Network, PNC Bank, Lockheed Martin, PPG Industries, and Pittsburgh-area federal agencies (representative, not exhaustive)
- Careers support: Office of Career Education and Development runs the Handshake portal; on-campus recruiter events each Fall and Spring
- Post-study work visa: 12 months of OPT for all F-1 students; 24-month STEM OPT extension for eligible MS Data Analytics and Computer Science graduates
Notable SRU alumni include Robert J. Stevens (former CEO, Lockheed Martin) and C. Vivian Stringer (Hall of Fame basketball coach), pointing to executive and public-sector recognition.
Insider note: Indian graduates most often route into Pittsburgh’s healthcare (UPMC), analytics (BNY Mellon), and manufacturing (US Steel) sectors; the STEM OPT extension is critical for MS graduates who need three years to convert to H-1B.
Slippery Rock University vs Peer Universities
The peer set below places Slippery Rock University alongside four regional public universities Indian applicants often shortlist alongside SRU: three Pennsylvania State System peers and one cross-state Ohio option.
| University | Type | Annual PG Tuition (Intl) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slippery Rock University | Public (PA) | $19,706 (₹18.69 lakh) | Reduced intl OSS rate + Provost Scholarship; Pittsburgh proximity |
| Indiana University of Pennsylvania | Public (PA) | Market band ₹17 lakh to ₹19 lakh | Largest PA state system uni; wider PhD offering |
| West Chester University of Pennsylvania | Public (PA) | Market band ₹17 lakh to ₹19 lakh | Highest-ranked PA state system uni; suburban Philadelphia |
| Kutztown University of Pennsylvania | Public (PA) | Market band ₹14 lakh to ₹18 lakh | Strong business and art programmes; SE Pennsylvania |
| Youngstown State University | Public (OH) | Market band ₹15 lakh to ₹18 lakh | Cross-state Ohio option near Pittsburgh; STEM focus |
SRU stands out from PA state system peers on the automatic $3,500 international discount and its Health Sciences pipeline (DPT, PA Studies, OT). Its US News #20 Top Public Schools placement outranks Kutztown and Millersville on the same metric.
Slippery Rock University suits Indian applicants who want a moderately selective, low-cost US public university within driving distance of Pittsburgh, and who value MBA, MS Data Analytics, or Health Sciences over research-intensive PhD ecosystems. The total investment of $30,000 to $37,000 per year against a market median PG starting salary of $55,000 to $65,000 gives a payback horizon under three years for STEM OPT graduates; the USA visa pathway supports this route.
SRU is not the right fit for applicants targeting Ivy or R1 research prestige, top-30 QS rankings, or Silicon Valley-scale placement networks. Applicants with those goals should consider Pennsylvania State University-University Park or the University of Pittsburgh as ambitious alternatives.
Slippery Rock University FAQs
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Slippery Rock University?
Ans. Yes, F-1 visa holders at Slippery Rock University can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during the academic year and full-time during breaks. On-campus roles include library assistants, dining services, and research assistantships. Off-campus work needs Curricular Practical Training authorisation after two full-time semesters, and requires the role to be tied directly to the student’s degree programme.
Ques. Does SRU waive GRE or GMAT for Indian applicants?
Ans. SRU’s MBA waives the GMAT for applicants with a bachelor’s CGPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent Indian first division. Most master’s programmes at SRU are GRE-optional, with the exception of Doctor of Physical Therapy which requires GRE scores. Applicants should confirm programme-level test policy before submission because Health Sciences tracks apply stricter rules.
Ques. What is the application fee at Slippery Rock University for Indian students?
Ans. The application fee at Slippery Rock University is $30 (₹2,845) for both undergraduate and graduate international applications, payable through the online portal by credit or debit card. Fee waivers are available for applicants who complete a virtual campus session with the international admissions team, or who apply through partner counselling programmes recognised by SRU. Health Sciences programmes charge an additional CASPA portal fee.
Ques. How does WES transcript verification work for SRU applications?
Ans. Slippery Rock University accepts course-by-course credential evaluations from World Education Services or any NACES-approved agency. Indian applicants should request WES directly through the Indian university that issued the degree, allowing 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. The evaluation must reach SRU’s international office before an admission decision is finalised, so start the WES process at least 12 weeks before the target intake deadline.
Ques. Are there conditional admission or ESL pathways at Slippery Rock University?
Ans. Yes, SRU offers conditional admission for Indian applicants whose academic profile meets programme requirements but whose TOEFL or IELTS score falls short. These students enrol in ELS Language Centres or SRU’s own English Language and Culture Institute, and transition to full degree status after achieving the required proficiency level. The conditional route adds one to two semesters of English study before the degree programme begins.
Ques. How long is OPT after graduating from SRU?
Ans. All F-1 international graduates from Slippery Rock University qualify for 12 months of Optional Practical Training after completing their degree. Graduates from STEM-designated programmes, including MS Data Analytics, MS Computer Science, and MS Applied Behavior Analysis, receive an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension. This gives STEM graduates a total of 36 months to gain US work experience while attempting to convert to an H-1B visa through employer sponsorship.
Ques. Which Indian banks partner with Slippery Rock University for education loans?
Ans. Slippery Rock University is recognised for education loan disbursement by all major Indian public sector banks, including SBI, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank, along with private lenders like HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank. Non-collateral loans from MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance are also available for SRU international students, typically covering tuition and living expenses up to $30,000 per year.
Ques. Does SRU offer online or hybrid graduate programs for Indian students?
Ans. Yes, Slippery Rock University offers several fully online master’s programmes, including the MBA, MEd, and MS in Special Education, that Indian students can pursue from India without an F-1 visa. Online tuition is charged at a reduced rate compared to the on-campus international rate. However, students who complete online programmes are not eligible for OPT or STEM OPT extensions, since these require in-person US study for at least one full academic year.

Overview
As a transfer student, I chose this university as an incoming sophomore in order to commute from home and save money. I also chose it because the Exercise Science program is reputed as one of the best in the country.
Fees
The fees were structured in two ways. You could pay by semester if you were full-time (12-18 credits) or by credit if you were part-time. However, in the summer they only offered the option to pay by credits even if you were technically full-time (12 credits or more).
