Yale Ends Free-Mover Clinical Electives August 2026

Yale School of Medicine has confirmed it will end the AAMC VSLO Free-Mover pathway from August 2026. The move locks out Indian MBBS students from colleges that do not participate in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities network. The announcement sits on Yale’s international visiting students page and applies from the 2026-27 elective catalog. The Free-Mover route had let students from non-partner institutions apply directly to Yale, a bypass that now closes. The change hits final-year MBBS candidates who use a US clinical elective to strengthen their USMLE journey and Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) file. A Yale rotation carries visible weight with US programme directors, and losing that door narrows options for students from most Indian medical colleges.

Yale receives 450 to 500 international elective applications each year and accepts about 100, so the seats Indian non-VSLO applicants competed for were already scarce.
