Work Experience Scores

Candidates with relevant work experience will be awarded scores based on the number of months they have worked. The work experience scoring remains the same for Indian and Overseas candidates Terms & conditions applicable for showcasing work experience.
Only full-time and paid experience after graduation will be considered. Part-time/Project/Internship/CA Articleship/Training/Apprenticeship/Pre-graduation work experience/ work experience, which involves payment as a stipend, will not be considered.
A valid proof of the date of appointment, date of relieving/ work experience certificate, and proof of payment/salary must be submitted.
Work experience for employment involving cash payment of salary without a salary slip or proof will not be considered.
For candidates having work experience in a family business valid proof of the existence of the business, the association of the candidate with the business/family, and the role of the individual in the business, along with proof of payment during work experience, must be submitted.
In the case of multiple companies’ work experience, the total work experience will be added up, and every 30 days will be accounted for as 1 month.

Apart from IIM, Nagpur I applied for NIT Trichy, IIIT Lucknow, SRCC GBO and other IIMs too. I converted IIM Vishakhapatnam, IIM Trichy, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Ranchi, NIT Trichy, IIIT Lucknow, SRCC GBO AIR 14th. I chose IIM, Nagpur over other colleges because the alumni network, faculty and the perk of scholarship. I didn't get into TISS, may be I did not focus properly in my exams due to too many distractions. First, you'll get call from college, then your interview will be conducted and after interview you'll get your admission letter.

I took CAT and scored 95 percentile. I am not sure about the cutoff. However, one lifesaving point was that the sectional cutoffs were relatively lower (as compared to older IIMs). The process involved CAT cutoff, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview.

The admission was through CAT. Cutoff is generally around 90 percentile for General students. Sectional cutoff was 70. After then interview process was conducted by iim nagpur individually. From next year interview process will be conducted through CAP round

Admission:

The admission process was online and it was conducted separately from CAP interviews. But now the process has integrated with CAP. The course was eligible for those who appeared in CAT entrance exam and the minimum percentile for interview call was around 75 percentile (including reservations). There are benefits for stream diversity, gender diversity and work experience. The gender ratio is almost 1:1 for the current batch. The date of application form and fees are available on the offical portal. There is almost an equal ratio of freshers and work experience people.

Remaking of Career - IIM Nagpur - 9th Best IIMs out of Best B- Schools in Country

Admission:

The admission Process at my time was full of options. There was a CAP - Common Admission Process for 11 IIMs which were mostly 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation IIMs apart from IIM Nagpur, IIM Visakhapatnam, and IIM Amritsar. I got a call from every IIM for flagship PGP - MBA apart from IIM A and IIM B. Based on my score of IIM C and IIM K, I got direct admission to IIM Nagpur for the 2018-20 batch. Now the process has been pretty streamlined with the clear-cut subject-wise cutoffs and overall cutoffs mentioned immediately after CAT results. Applicants can directly apply and based on their merit they'll get a call for the interview and on the basis of their performance they'll get the final seat.

Life at IIM Nagpur Mihan Campus

Admission:

During CAT Form filling, I selected IIM Nagpur as one of the colleges. After the CAT results got declared, I got a mail from IIM N to submit an application based on the criteria for cut-offs. The application form is available on the college website. The date for submission was April 15. College asked for two references. No application was charged. After filling out the application, I received a mail for the PI process which was scheduled on May 8. There was no GD process. A comprehensive score was calculated. The final selection was carried out based on the Final Score which comprised of the CAT score, Comprehensive Score, and other criteria such as Work Experience, Diversity Score, UG Marks, and Boards Marks.

Joining IIM Nagpur is a decision worth taking. It has a good reputation, especially among the new IIMs. One of my cousins with a work experience of 3 years, joined IIM Nagpur and is glad he took the decision. He considered the following parameters to take this decision

Placements: The institute enjoys a 100% placement percentage The highest CTC shot up by 72.56% to INR 55.22 LPA whereas the average CTC increased by 20.50% which stood at INR 23.10 LPA. In addition, the average CTC for the top 50% batch climbed by 16.08% to INR 26.95 LPA.
Crowd: The institute welcomes a mixed crowd with a variety of academic, geographical, and work experience profiles. The individuals here are serious about their MBA who want to leave an impact in the corporate world.
Courses: IIM Nagpur provides both Foundation courses in the first year and a blend of your choice of electives in the second year. This enables you to specialize in more than one domain thereby broadening your career opportunities
Faculty: The faculty is well known for their industry experience themselves are IIM alumni.

The waitlist movement at IIM Nagpur is a pretty simple process. Let’s understand the entire process through steps.

Firstly the waitlist students are divided into 3 groups namely Waitlist 1, Waitlist 2 and Waitlist 3.
The above categories are made on the basis of the composite score in descending order
Whenever a student does not accept the order or withdraws admission, his seat is offered to the person with the highest composite score in Waitlist 1 category.
This process continues till the entire Waitlist 1 group has been offered a seat.
The other two Waitlist groups are also exhausted in similar ways only if there are vacancies.

The ones who had laid Waitlist money get the amount refunded in case they are not offered a seat.

Is it good to join IIM Nagpur for a person with 3 years of experience earning around 8.5 PA?

It depends on the individual's career aspirations and the options they have at their disposal. Many people left some of the big names with packages more than what has been stated, to come to IIM Nagpur. If one is looking from a short-term perspective, they may not gain much monetarily as IIM Nagpur is one of the newer IIMs. However, this does not mean that after completing a PGP, they will end up earning the same salary as their current one. It simply means not to expect the same coveted profiles of consultants that IIM ABC manages to secure for its students. The placement for the first batch of students has begun and it seems to be going well and is expected to improve in the future.

When it comes to the most important aspect, learning, and experience, studying at one of the IIMs ensures access to some of the best people as peers, with experience in different domains and industries. The opportunity to learn from the best faculty in the country, all of whom come from IIM A, is something that cannot be measured in monetary terms. The academic rigor and the knowledge gained here will differentiate one from others in the long run. The two 15-day Field Immersion Programs after the first and second terms are unique to IIM Nagpur, where students will get hands-on experience in solving problems of both government and non-government organizations, which will prove beneficial in the challenging corporate world. The program was proposed by IIM-A alumni when the program structure for IIM Nagpur was being drafted.

Finally, it is important to remember that there are many elements included in an MBA program and CTC is only one of them. One should not let their current or near-term CTC determine what they will gain from a PGPM from IIM Nagpur.

Is it very difficult to get admission in IIM Nagpur?

Your question is quite vague given that the admission criteria are directly linked to your profile. The chances of one’s admission are proportional to your grades and experiences and therefore cannot be generalized.

Let me elaborate for you. In the entrance exam, every candidate has their own strengths and weaknesses. One might be good in the Quantum section but as at General Knowledge and vice Versa. While many get good scores in the entrance exam, they fail to muster the courage to speak in the interview which lowers their chances of admission despite a good CAT percentile.

Still, if I rate the level of difficulty to get admission at the top IIM A B and C as 10/10 then I will rate IIM Nagpur as 6. This is because I know a friend who scored 92 percentile with decent past academics and work experience of around a year and yet got into IIM Nagpur.

What is a better choice, take a job at Infosys as a fresher or pursue an MBA at IIM Nagpur?

I cannot answer your question directly but I can direct you to answer it yourself. Choosing something related to your career requires constant analysis of your own interests.

Now let’s look at the 2 options you have. Taking a job at Infosys as a fresher or pursuing an MBA from IIM Nagpur. One choice may be right for someone and wrong for the other person. So it’s up to you to decide.

You should join Infosys only if you are interested in solving technical problems. You will be trained at the training facility at Mysore and made to inculcate impeccable technical skills. You will be dealing with the technological aspects of the company. like working on features of a product, and solving/reporting bugs for a product. Your future job prospects include becoming a Technical Analyst, Tech lead, or other tech-savvy roles. You need to have a serious interest in this area if you choose this option.

You should pursue an MBA from Nagpur or any other IIM only if you are interested in solving business problems. Here you will be taught by world-class faculty for 2 years who will teach you the various dimensions of business management. You will have to participate in case studies, quizzes, classroom participation, presentations, group assignments, club activities, etc. During the second year, you can focus on one or two of your favorite domains. MBA will open doors for big placement offers.

So what matters, in the end, is what you want to do in life and what you are passionate about.
