University of Calcutta MA Sanskrit: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. Yes. From 2026, Calcutta University has made the entrance test mandatory for all candidates applying for PG programmes including MA Sanskrit, regardless of whether they graduated from a CU-affiliated college or another institution. Candidates must register online and appear for the university-conducted entrance test to be considered for admission.

Ans. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sanskrit, Pali, or a related Indian classical language discipline with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. SC/ST/OBC candidates require 45% marks. Final-year undergraduate students may apply provisionally, but admission is confirmed only after passing the qualifying degree with the required percentage.

MA Sanskrit graduates from Calcutta University can pursue careers as Sanskrit teachers in schools and colleges, researchers in Indological or classical studies, or work with institutions involved in manuscript digitisation, cultural heritage preservation, and Sanskrit publishing.
