Aliah University, earlier known as Mohammedan College of Calcutta, is a government-run minority university located in New Town, Kolkata. Mohammedan College of Calcutta became a university in 2008. The university offers many courses at the undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and PhD levels in fields like Engineering, Management, Law, and Science. Some popular courses include BSc, MSc, MBA, BCom, MCom, MCA, MA, and LLM.
Admissions are done online and based on entrance exams or marks from previous classes. For most courses, students need to take the Aliah University Admission Test (AUAT), which is an online exam. However, some programs, such as B.Tech, require a JEE Main, WBJEE score, or AUAT and JELET for the B.Tech lateral entry exam, while M.Tech requires a GATE score, and B.Ed. is based on both previous marks and AUAT performance.
Aliah University has separated the courses into five groups to simplify all admission procedures. The two sections of AUAT are called Part A and Part B. While Part B varies for every course group, Part A is shared by all of the groups.

Aliah University B.Tech Admission 2025
Aliah University offers a four-year B.Tech program with specializations in five streams. To be eligible for the B.Tech program, candidates must have passed Class 12 in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) with a minimum of 60% marks in the aggregate. Additionally, candidates with a diploma in engineering are also eligible for lateral entry into the B.Tech programs. Admission is based on the scores from the AUAT and WBJEE exams. The university provides a lateral entry option based on the JELET entrance exam.

Aliah University B.Tech Lateral Eligibility Criteria 2025
Candidates must have completed a Diploma in Engineering in one of the following branches: Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Computer Science, or Electronics & Telecommunication, with an overall aggregate of at least 60%. Additionally, candidates who are currently appearing for their final examinations must have secured an average of 45% across the first to fifth semesters of their Diploma in Engineering.

Aliah University, Kolkata WBJEE Cutoff 2025 has not been released yet. For admission through WBJEE, Aliah University, Kolkata, had different cutoff ranks each year. Aliah University BA, B.Sc Admission 2025
Aliah University provides undergraduate programs that include B.Tech, BA, and B.Ed. A candidate must have completed Class 12 in PCM with at least 60% of the possible points in all subjects to be eligible for a B.Tech. The university also offers lateral entry in the B.Tech programs for candidates with a Diploma in engineering. Admission to these programs is on the basis of AUAT.

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in B.E. or B.Tech in a relevant discipline, with a minimum DGPA of 6.5 from any AICTE-approved institution. Additionally, candidates who have either passed or are appearing for their 7th semester with a CGPA of 6.5 (up to the 6th semester) may also apply.

Aliah University PG Admissions 2025
For the following programs: MA, MA/M.Sc. in Geography, MA/M.Sc. in MJMC, LLM, MA in Urdu, MM/MA in Theology, M.Sc. in Statistics and Informatics, or a 2-year M.Sc. in Mathematics:
- Candidates who have completed a three-year degree program and achieved the minimum required marks in the relevant Honours/Major subject from any recognized university may apply.
- Candidates who have successfully passed Part I and Part II exams or equivalent grades in their respective Honours/Major subjects from any recognized university are also eligible to appear for the AUAT. However, their admission will be canceled if they fail to secure an aggregate of at least 40% marks in the Part III/Final Examination.
For the LLM program:
- Candidates must have completed a 3-year LLB or an Integrated 5-year LLB with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate to be eligible to apply.
Selection for all courses will be based on the entrance test conducted by Alia University under the AUAT.

Aliah University offers a five-year BBA+MBA integrated program. The candidate must have completed Class 12 with at least 50% of the possible points overall and 50% in English to be eligible to apply. The selection will be made on the basis of merit in the AUAT exam.

Aliah University Ph.D. Admission 2025
Aliah University offers Ph.D. programs in various fields, including Engineering, Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Religious Studies. The university also provides Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degrees in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Religious Studies, as well as Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degrees in Science and Engineering. Notably, the D.Litt. and D.Sc. degrees are considered to be above the Ph.D. degree and are awarded based on the candidate’s research aptitude and number of publications.
Aliah University invites applications twice a year, during the months of April-May and October-November. Candidates may apply for any of the following categories: Regular Full-Time, Full-Time Sponsored, Part-Time Self-Sponsored (Internal), or Part-Time Self-Sponsored (External).

Aliah University Ph.D. Selection Process 2025
Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in the departmental admission test conducted by the concerned Departmental Research Committee (DRC), followed by an interview. Final admission will be granted based on the following factors:

Note: Students who possess a valid score from GATE, NET, SLET, SET, CSIR (JRF), or UGC (JRF), or hold a teacher's fellowship, are exempt from the Aliah University Ph.D. entrance examination. Additionally, candidates with equivalent qualifications, such as M.Tech, M.E., M.Arch, M.Phil, M.S., M.D., M.Pharm, or MBA degrees, are also exempt from these test proceedings.
Requirements for the award of a Ph.D. Degree:
- A Ph.D. degree will be awarded on the basis of the student’s performance in prescribed coursework & seminar, followed by final thesis submission & viva-voce.

Ques. What is the admissions process for Aliah University, and what entrance exams are required?
Ans. The admission process at Aliah University involves both entrance exams and merit-based selection, depending on the program. For most undergraduate and postgraduate courses, candidates must appear for the Aliah University Admission Test (AUAT), which is the university’s entrance exam. However, for B.Tech programs, candidates can also apply through WBJEE scores, and M.Tech admissions are considered based on GATE scores. Similarly, for the MBA program, scores from national-level exams like CAT or MAT are accepted. After the entrance test, shortlisted candidates are called for counseling, where seats are allotted based on rank, eligibility, and document verification.

Postgraduate programs such as M.A., M.Sc., and M.Tech also have low tuition fees, generally between INR 2,500 to INR 12,000 per year, depending on the course. Additionally, students can apply for various government scholarships to further reduce their educational expenses.

Ans. The steps involved in the admission procedure of foreign students at Aliah University are as follows:
- Fill up the admission form
- Submit two sets of photocopies to the Committee of International students.
- Verification of all documents
- Deposit of the requisite fee
- Report to the academic department
- Within a week of arrival in India, register with the police in the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO)
- Obtain the Registration Certificate issued by the Registration Officer to the local police.
- Submit a copy of the same to the Committee of International Students.
Ques. How are Aliah University distance mode admissions conducted?
Ans. Admissions at AUODL are conducted on a merit basis. There is no provision for an online entrance test for admission to the programs run in ODL mode. The admission and payment of the admission fee are both online.
