Ques. What is the scope of MSc Nursing after graduation?
Ans. MSc Nursing graduates have excellent career prospects in both government and private healthcare sectors. Graduates can work as nursing educators in nursing colleges and training institutions. Many pursue careers as nursing administrators and managers in hospitals and healthcare organizations. Graduates can work as nursing researchers in research institutions and universities. Employment opportunities also exist in community health organizations, NGOs, and international health organizations. The degree is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and enables graduates to pursue doctoral studies and advanced professional roles. Starting salaries typically range from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 per month, with significant growth potential as experience increases.
Ques. What is the difference between B.Sc Nursing and MSc Nursing?
Ans. B.Sc Nursing is a 4-year undergraduate programme that provides foundational knowledge in all areas of nursing including medical-surgical nursing, community health nursing, paediatric nursing, psychiatric nursing, and midwifery. MSc Nursing is a 2-year postgraduate programme that focuses on advanced specialization in nursing with emphasis on nursing education, research, and management. The MSc programme provides deeper expertise with advanced clinical training, research opportunities, and management skills, preparing graduates for teaching, research, and leadership positions in nursing. The MSc curriculum is more focused and intensive compared to the undergraduate programme.
Ques. What research opportunities are available during the MSc Nursing programme?
Ans. The MSc Nursing programme provides comprehensive opportunities for research and scholarly activities. Students are required to conduct research projects on nursing-related topics as part of their curriculum. Students gain experience in research methodology, data collection, analysis, and presentation. The programme encourages students to publish their research findings in nursing journals and present at nursing conferences. Students also participate in faculty-led research projects and have access to research facilities and resources. Ques. What are the eligibility requirements for admission to MSc Nursing?
Ans. To be eligible for admission to MSc Nursing, candidates must possess a B.Sc (Nursing) or Post Basic B.Sc (Nursing) degree from a recognized university with minimum 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST category candidates). Candidates must have completed at least one year of experience in any educational institution or hospital after completion of the nursing degree. Candidates must have obtained permanent registration with any State Nursing Council after completion of their nursing degree. Candidates must satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. Candidates appearing for their final B.Sc Nursing examination may also apply if they are likely to complete the course before the admission date.
Ques. What is the admission process and timeline for MSc Nursing?
Ans. The admission process for MSc Nursing is merit-based and conducted through counselling. Candidates must submit their online application on or before June 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Counselling call letters will be available for download from June 18, 2026 onwards. Merit-based counselling is scheduled for June 26-27, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation, Salem. Merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the qualifying B.Sc Nursing examination. Candidates must report to the college with original certificates and required documents as per the counselling schedule. Admission confirmation and course commencement will be as per university notification.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of admission to MSc Nursing?
Ans. Candidates must submit the following original documents along with scanned copies and photocopies at the time of counselling and admission: B.Sc Nursing degree or provisional certificate, degree mark sheets (all years) or consolidated statement of marks, permanent nursing registration certificate issued by any State Nursing Council, transfer certificate and conduct certificate from the last institution, community certificate (if applicable), migration certificate (if applicable), experience certificate from the institution or hospital where experience was gained, 10th and 12th standard mark sheets, nativity or domicile certificate, copy of Aadhaar card of the candidate, copy of Aadhaar card of parents/guardian, medical fitness certificate, and 9 recent passport-size color photographs (taken after January 1, 2026). Candidates must ensure that their name and date of birth are identical in both school certificates and Aadhaar card.
