IMU BBA FAQs
Ques. Is the BBA (Logistics, Retailing and E-Commerce) at IMU Chennai a residential programme? Do I need to stay in a hostel?
Ans. No, the BBA programme at IMU Chennai is a non-residential (day-scholar) programme. Students are not required to stay in a hostel. Male students must arrange their own accommodation near the campus. Hostel accommodation is available only for female students on request, subject to availability, at an additional cost of approximately Rs. 60,000 per annum (inclusive of mess charges). This is a common query among outstation students, and it is important to plan accommodation in advance if you are not from Chennai.
Ques. Is IMU-CET required for BBA admission at IMU? What is the selection process?
Ans. No, IMU-CET is not required for BBA admission. The BBA programme at IMU is the only programme where admission is based purely on Class 12 merit (aggregate marks in English + major subjects). There is no entrance exam. You simply register online, and a merit list is prepared based on your Class 12 marks. Seat allotment is done through multiple merit list rounds, and any remaining seats are filled on a First Come First Serve (FCFS) basis. This makes BBA admission at IMU relatively straightforward compared to other IMU programmes.
Ques. What is the scope of BBA (Logistics) from IMU? Will I get a good job after this course?
Ans. The BBA in Logistics from IMU has a strong maritime and shipping industry focus, which differentiates it from a generic BBA. Graduates can work as Logistics Executives, Supply Chain Analysts, Freight Forwarding Executives, Shipping Operations Trainees, and Port Operations Assistants in companies like Maersk, Shipping Corporation of India, port trusts, 3PL companies, and e-commerce firms. Entry-level salaries typically range from Rs. 2.5 to 5 LPA, with growth to Rs. 8-20 LPA at managerial levels with experience. Many students also pursue IMU's MBA in Port and Shipping Management or MBA in International Transportation and Logistics Management after BBA, which significantly boosts career prospects.
Ques. Can I pursue an MBA after completing BBA from IMU? Is there any advantage?
Ans. Yes, and this is one of the biggest advantages of doing BBA from IMU. After completing the BBA, you can directly apply for IMU's MBA programmes (MBA in Port and Shipping Management or MBA in International Transportation and Logistics Management) by appearing for IMU-CET or submitting CAT/MAT/CMAT scores. Having a BBA background from IMU itself gives you a strong foundation in maritime business, making you a competitive candidate for these MBA programmes. The MBA from IMU's School of Maritime Management has a strong placement record with companies in the shipping and logistics sector.
Ques. What is the difference between BBA (Logistics, Retailing and E-Commerce) and BBA (Maritime Logistics - Apprenticeship Embedded) at IMU?
Ans. IMU offers two BBA programmes. The BBA in Logistics, Retailing and E-Commerce is a standard 3-year classroom-based programme covering logistics, retail, and e-commerce in the shipping context. The BBA in Maritime Logistics (Apprenticeship Embedded) is a newer programme that includes a mandatory apprenticeship component, where students work with industry partners and earn a minimum stipend of Rs. 7,000 per month during the apprenticeship period. The apprenticeship-embedded programme is currently offered only at the Visakhapatnam campus. If you want early industry exposure and a stipend during your studies, the apprenticeship-embedded programme may be more suitable, but it is not available at Chennai.
Ques. Are there any scholarships specifically for BBA students at IMU Chennai? How do I apply?
Ans. BBA students at IMU Chennai can avail state government post-matric scholarships for SC/ST, OBC, and minority communities through their respective state portals and the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in). Tamil Nadu students can apply through escholarship.tn.gov.in. Female students may additionally be eligible for industry scholarships from BW Global and Maritime Training Trust. IMU itself does not offer direct merit scholarships for BBA students but facilitates access to these external scholarships. Applications typically open after the academic session begins in August, and students should apply promptly as deadlines are usually in October-November each year.
