KIIT University offers admission based on the KIITEE entrance exam, which is free to apply for. With no application fee, students can fill out forms online and take the Computer Based Test. Students with ranks under 4,000 often secure top branches like Computer Science, while ranks up to 30,000 are eligible for counseling, which includes a refundable Rs. 60,000 fee if admission is not pursued. The 2013-17 batch faced a semester fee of Rs. 1,10,000, an annual hostel charge of Rs. 60,000, and a mess fee of Rs. 25,000.

Admission requires at least 60% in PCM subjects. The university strictly prohibits ragging and offers separate hostels for first-year students. Faculty at KIIT are well-qualified, with 65% holding PhDs from prestigious institutions, and are known for their supportive and approachable nature. The fee structure is about INR 1.5 to 2 lakh per semester, totaling around INR 15 to 16 lakhs for the entire engineering course, including tuition, hostel, and mess charges.

Additional costs include a one-time counseling fee of INR 62,000 and a semester exam fee of INR 1,000. KIIT: 2 Answered Questions

What is the course: electronics and computer science engineering at KIIT?

Ananya DasguptaStudied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)

As a reflection of the sheep mentality, the majority of engineering aspirants can be seen running after CS or IT. However, I will suggest you also give preference to your interests first.

Electronics and Computer Science Engineering is a recently launched branch at KIIT and is actually great. Not many batches have passed out yet, but the branch seems promising like any other branch at KIIT.

  • In the first year, the same foundation courses are taught that are common in all the branches. These include Physics, Chemistry, Basic Electronics, Engineering Mechanics, etc.
  • From the second year, you will be intrigued by the ECE concepts. Out of the overall curriculum, approximately 55% weightage is given to electronics subjects and 45% weightage is given to CS subjects.
  • From what I have heard, the subjects taught to ECE are easier than the subjects taught to CS and Electronics students individually.

In all, Electronics and Computer Science Engineering is a decent choice especially if you are interested in the field. However, if you are still aiming for CS, then you can opt for a branch change after one year. The cut-off for branch change is 8.5 CGPA but to get into CS you will need around 9.2+ and 8.9 or more for IT.
