Established in 1987, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. At present, the institute offers two programmes viz. M.Sc. Economics and Ph.D. in Development Studies. For M.Sc. Economics programs, the candidate must have completed under graduation with 55% marks in Economics and 60% in the remaining subjects. This two-year program is offered in Economics at the postgraduate level by the institute. To be eligible for admission to the M.Sc. Economics program, candidates must have completed their senior secondary school from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any other recognized board with Mathematics as a compulsory subject.
Interested candidates can register online by filling out the application form through the institute website and submit the application fee through the available online modes. After the entrance examinations, the students shortlisted in the merit list will be notified to appear for an online interview for the final evaluation.

Candidates who can complete the M.Sc. program at IGIDR and fulfill the eligibility criteria as per the institute's regulations can further apply for the M.Phil./Ph.D. program. These candidates might get an opportunity to receive stipends as per the guidelines and exemption from the course requirements for 3 years for of Ph.D. registration.
In addition to M.Sc in Economics, the university also offers a two-year Ph.D in Developmental Studies. In order to be eligible for Ph.D. in Development Studies, applicants must have completed post-graduation with 55% marks secured in Economics. Mathematics as a main subject during senior secondary school is compulsory as a part of the minimum eligibility criteria. The Ph.D. program requires submission of thesis for completion.

This scholarship for Asian candidates provide them a monthly fixed allowance as well book reimbursement and travel allowance amount.
This scholarship is funded by the International Development Research Center, Canada (IDRC). Those who get selected for this scholarship will receive a monthly stiped of INR 26000 and one round of travelling expenses up to a maximum amount of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of amount INR 25000, and allowable book reimbursement and travel allowance for conference travel.
Those who get selected for this fellowship will receive a monthly stipend of INR 50000, one round of travelling expenses up to a maximum amount of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of amount INR 25000, and research grant of INR 100000, and conference travel support up to a maximum amount of INR 150000.
