Ans. Yes, Kerala University permits Ph.D. research at approved Research Centres in affiliated colleges, in addition to the University Departments at Kariavattom Campus. Ques. What is the process for getting a Research Supervisor allocated after selection?
Ans. After you are selected through the entrance test or interview, the Doctoral Committee of the Civil Engineering department will allocate a Research Supervisor based on your research interests, the supervisor's current number of scholars (a Professor can guide up to 8, Associate Professor up to 6, and Assistant Professor up to 4 scholars at a time), and the availability of vacancies. You cannot independently choose your supervisor; the allocation is done by the Doctoral Committee.
Ques. Is there a time limit for completing the Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Kerala University?
Ans. The minimum duration for completing the Ph.D. is 3 years from the date of registration. The maximum duration is 6 years for full-time scholars. If a scholar fails to submit the thesis within the stipulated period, delayed submission fees apply - ranging from no fine for up to 6 months delay, to Rs. 1,000 fine for 6 months to 1 year, Rs. 2,000 for over 1 year, Rs. 5,000 for 2-5 years, and Rs. 2,000 per year for delays beyond 5 years.
