What is KU CAT 2027?

KU CAT stands for Kerala University Common Admission Test. The University of Kerala also runs MBA programmes through its University Institute of Management (UIM). Candidates need to apply separately to each programme through the official online admissions portal.

The final merit list is prepared based on three selection components: the written test (80% weightage), Group Discussion (10% weightage), and Personal Interview (10% weightage). So scoring well in the KU CAT written exam is critical — it accounts for 80% of your final rank.

KU CAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the following eligibility conditions before applying for KU CAT 2027. The University of Kerala may update these criteria in the official 2027 notification. Check the official portal when the notification is released.

Educational Qualification

• You must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university.
• You must have scored at least 50% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in your undergraduate programme.
• For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the minimum aggregate required is 45%.
• Final-year undergraduate students who are yet to appear in their degree exam can also apply. However, they must produce proof of passing with the required percentage at the time of admission.

Age Limit

• There is no upper age limit for KU CAT, as per previous year norms.

Work Experience

• Work experience is not mandatory for KU CAT eligibility. However, it may carry additional weightage during GD and PI rounds at the discretion of the selection committee.

KU CAT 2027 GD and PI Round

The Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds are the second and most critical stage of the KU CAT 2027 selection process. These rounds are conducted at IMK, Thiruvananthapuram and together carry 20% weightage in the final merit list (10% GD + 10% PI).

• Groups of 8–12 shortlisted candidates discuss a topic given by the faculty panel.
• Topics are usually related to current affairs, business, management, Kerala economy, or social issues.
• GD duration is typically 15–20 minutes.
• You are evaluated on your communication clarity, knowledge of the topic, ability to listen, leadership, and overall presence.
• Do not dominate aggressively. IMK panelists look for collaborative, articulate candidates.

Personal Interview (PI)

• The PI is a 10–15 minute individual interview with faculty members.
• You should expect questions on your academic background, work experience (if any), reason for choosing MBA, future goals, knowledge of business current events, and general awareness about Kerala’s economy.
• Be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. IMK interviewers tend to probe your self-awareness and critical thinking more than surface-level facts.
• If you have prior work experience, be ready to discuss it in detail — what you did, what you learnt, and why you want an MBA now.

The KU CAT written test score is primarily used for admission to IMK (Institute of Management in Kerala), the flagship management school of the University of Kerala. However, IMK also accepts valid scores from CAT, KMAT Kerala, CMAT, XAT, and MAT. Other top management colleges in Kerala accept KMAT Kerala scores more broadly.

If you have already appeared in any of the below exams with a valid score, you can apply to IMK’s MBA programme without appearing in KU CAT 2027:

• CAT — IIM-conducted CAT. Scores from the 2025 and 2026 CAT exams (held in November) are accepted for 2027 admission.
• KMAT Kerala — Conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. A widely accepted MBA entrance exam across Kerala colleges.
• CMAT — National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts this exam every year in January.

KU CAT 2027 Preparation Tips

KU CAT 2027 covers the same core areas as major MBA entrance exams like CAT and CMAT — Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and General Awareness. A focused 3–4 month preparation plan is enough for most graduates.

Section-Wise Strategy

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

• Start with Class 10 and Class 12 NCERT Maths to build your base if you are from a non-maths background.
• Practice at least 20–25 QA questions daily. Focus on Arithmetic (percentages, profit/loss, ratio, TSD) — these are the most frequently tested topics.
• For DI, practice reading graphs and tables quickly. Speed matters more than formula knowledge in this section.
• Time yourself during practice. Aim for the QA + DI section in under 50 minutes.

Logical Reasoning

• Practice Seating Arrangements and Blood Relations daily — these are the highest-weightage LR topics across all MBA exams.
• Solve 3–5 LR sets per day of increasing complexity.
• Learn to skip time-consuming LR sets during the exam and come back to them. Spending 15 minutes on one set you cannot crack is a major exam-day mistake.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

• Read English newspapers (The Hindu, Economic Times) daily for at least 30 minutes. This improves RC speed and vocabulary at the same time.
• Practice at least one RC passage per day, timing yourself strictly.
• For Para Jumbles, work backwards — identify the opening and closing sentences first, then fit the middle parts.

General Awareness

• Prepare a monthly current affairs digest for the last 6 months before the exam. Focus on business news, RBI/Finance Ministry decisions, and Kerala-specific news.
