KU B.Ed FAQs
Ques. Is there an entrance exam for B.Ed (Malayalam) admission at Kerala University?
Ans. No, Kerala University does not conduct a separate entrance examination for B.Ed admissions, including the Malayalam optional. Admission is entirely merit-based, calculated from the marks obtained in the qualifying degree examination (B.A./B.Sc. with Malayalam as main subject, or M.A. Malayalam). The University prepares a rank list based on these marks, with additional weightage for postgraduate qualifications and teaching experience. Candidates simply need to register online during the admission window and submit their options for colleges.
Ques. Can I apply for B.Ed (Malayalam) if I have an M.A. in Malayalam instead of a B.A.?
Ans. Yes, candidates with an M.A. in Malayalam/Malayalam Language and Literature with a minimum of 50% marks are fully eligible for B.Ed (Malayalam) admission at Kerala University. In fact, having a postgraduate degree in the same subject gives you an additional weightage of 5 marks (for First Class), 3 marks (for Second Class), or 2 marks (for Third Class) in the merit ranking, which can significantly improve your chances of getting a seat in a preferred college.
Ques. What is the difference between Government/Aided college fees and Self-Financing college fees for B.Ed (Malayalam)?
Ans. In Government and Aided colleges affiliated to Kerala University, the total B.Ed fees for 2 years is Rs. 71,650 (tuition fee of Rs. 70,000 + one-time admission fee of Rs. 1,650). In Self-Financing colleges, the tuition fee can be up to Rs. 45,000 per year (Rs. 90,000 for 2 years), making the total fees higher. However, the quality of education and infrastructure can vary. Government and KUCTE colleges are generally preferred due to lower fees and established reputation.
Ques. After completing B.Ed (Malayalam) from Kerala University, am I eligible to teach in government schools in Kerala?
Ans. Completing B.Ed (Malayalam) from a Kerala University-affiliated college makes you eligible to apply for teaching posts in Malayalam at the secondary and higher secondary levels. However, to be appointed in government or aided schools in Kerala, you must also qualify the KTET (Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test) conducted by the Kerala Pareeksha Bhavan. KTET Paper II is relevant for Classes VI-VIII and Paper III for Classes IX-X. Clearing KTET is mandatory for government school appointments, though some private schools may not require it.
Ques. How many seats are available for B.Ed (Malayalam) across Kerala University affiliated colleges?
Ans. The number of seats for B.Ed (Malayalam) varies across affiliated colleges. Malayalam as an optional is offered in select Government, Aided, and Self-Financing training colleges affiliated to Kerala University. The total seat intake across all affiliated colleges offering Malayalam optional runs to several hundred seats. Candidates should check the official admission notification each year for the updated list of colleges and subject-wise seat availability at admissions.keralauniversity.ac.in.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of B.Ed (Malayalam) admission at Kerala University?
