19 Nov, 2025 GATE 2026 is scheduled for Feb 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, for ME/ MTech/ PhD admissions. The exam will be held in two sessions; the first session will be conducted from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by the second session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. For latest updates, check here.

13 Nov, 2025 CAT 2025 Admit Card has been released on Nov 12, 2025. Candidates can download it from the official website, iimcat.ac.in. CAT 2025 Exam will be held on November 30, 2025 (Sunday) for MBA/ PGDM admission. For more details, check here.

12 Nov, 2025 CEED 2026 Exam will be conducted on January 18, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM for M.Des/ PhD (Design) admission. Further, the Results will be announced on March 4, 2026. For more details, check here.

IISc Bangalore offers UG, PG and Doctoral program to students based on national level entrance examination. Where B.sc (Research) is the flagship program of University and the B.tech in Mathematics and computing at IISc Bangalore becoming as the highly demanded engineering program in India. Admission to the B.tech program is based on the JEE Advanced scored while Admission in B.sc program is based on JEE Main/KVPY/NEET UG/JEE Advanced exam. The admission to the 4 Year B.Sc course usually starts on March - April months. The fees for B.sc 1st year is approx INR 30,200.

IISc Bangalore B.Tech Admission is based on the JEE Main. The application process is given below.

Step 1: To apply for JEE Main, aspirants need to visit @jeemain.nta.ac.in

Step 2: Read the instructions and information form. JEE Main will be conducted two times (Session-1 and Session-2).

Step 3: Fill out the application form by providing the necessary details and take a printout for further reference. The fee for JEE Main 2025 registration is INR 1000 for Male candidates. The fee for female candidates is INR 800, while SC/ST/PwD category candidates need to pay INR 500.

I applied to IISER Kolkata and got accepted. The choice was governed by IISc having a better ranking and being further away from home. No. I did not apply to any other colleges. Right now, officially, the two entry exams are JEE-Adv and IAT. In the past, KVPY, JEE-M and NEET were also options. Cutoffs vary every year and since this is the first year with only JEE-Adv as the exam, it is difficult to guess where the cutoff would be. The admission process is quite smooth. Or at least it was when I joined.

For M tech in civil engineering you just need to have bachelors degree in relevant field and a valid gate score. Gate cutoff keeps on varying so can't tell exact number but for general category student gate score should be above 750. Application fee for Mtech is Rs 800 for General/OBC/EWS. For civil engineering department they don't take any interview, they select solely on gate score

IISc Bengaluru: the premier research institute of India

Admission:

Admission to the B. Sc. program at IISc Bangalore takes place via 4 modes: JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, IAT and NEET. Till 2021 there was a KVPY mode of entry but it was replaced by IAT (IISER Aptitude test) since last year. Cutoffs for different categories via different exams canbe checked at official website of the UG department of IISC: bs-ug.iisc.ac.in. The only eligibility criterias are to successfully pass class 12 examinations from a recognised board and to clear the cutoff of any of the 4 exams mentioned above in your category. Applications for the program are to filled at the official webiste in april-may every year. If you clear the cutoff then the institute will reach you on your official email-ID with a provisional offer letter and you will be invited for an in-person counselling session to the Bangalore campus in June. There are 3 rounds of counselling, and at the in person counselling you are given all the information about the program, fees and future prospects.

Admission:

Qualification of GATE examination with a good rank for shortlisting. There is a quiz and interview for final selection. It is said but 70-30 percent ratio of gate exam score and interview performance but it really depends on the interview alone. The application form can be found on the website after the COAP registration starts. The college is very good.

I was admitted through KVPY-SA exam. Anyone studying in 11th and 12th can apply for the exam. Only SC and ST reservation benefits are availed.But the application fee was pretty high.It was rs.1500. It was a very good exam but it was called off because of high expenses.

Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme:

This is a four-year UG Research Programme in Science designed especially to offer specialization in a science subject. All students take core courses in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, and Humanities in the first 3 semesters and later choose electives of their choice. In the fourth year, there is a research-based project under the guidance of a faculty. There are three national-level exams for this program

Masters Course:

Well, getting a Ph.D. from IISc is indeed difficult. In my opinion, the true meaning of a Ph.D. is investing your entire efforts, time, and knowledge in one specific region. In India though, Ph.D. is just considered a degree one can achieve by publishing some paper in some conference or journal. The quality of these papers is poor and substandard bringing down the sort of the degree.

However, IISc being a prestigious institute has managed to maintain the dignity and credibility of the degree so far. You need to prepare yourself for committing to hard work and high-level dedication. Know that your next 5-6 years will be spent proving and disproving every hypothesis possible and conducting infinite experiments.

As a Ph.D. student, you will be publishing a few journals in top international forums and also writing your own thesis, which will culminate your entire work and present it before other researchers and professors of the institute. You will then be assessed thoroughly. Only after proving your point strongly and convincing them will you be able to get the degree.

During this whole time, you will face many struggles dealing with your PI and securing funds for your research work. But trust me the result will be worth the effort!

In IISc Bangalore, for certain programs, only the GATE scores are taken into consideration. For example- M.Tech (course) in CSA and SSA streams.

In the above-mentioned programs, you have to secure the top 50-100 rank in the GATE CS examination.

For M.Tech in some streams, and M.Tech (Research) and Ph.D. programs, IISc Bangalore uses the GATE score simply as a cutoff. The selection is done based on the written test and subsequent interview. The GATE cutoff for an interview call is relatively low. This is done with the idea that a good student who had a bad exam can still perform extremely well during the interview. For M.Tech/ Ph.D. CS, this rank is equal to the top 500-1000 ranks(for those who apply), but it can go to 200 for other streams.

Your GATE scores and GPA during graduation become mostly irrelevant once you get called by IISc Bangalore for an interview. They can only work to make the interviewer biased toward/against you, this won’t happen unless you have significantly high or low scores respectively. IISc Bangalore registration for PhD/ MTech(Research), MTech, MDes, MMgt, MSc, and Integrated PhD programs is open now. The last date to apply for admission is March 22, 2024. IISc Bangalore gives admission to the MTech program through GATE scores followed by COAP counseling. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore offers a full-time M.Tech program across 18 different specializations in a minimum duration of 2 years and charges a fee of INR 29,200 for the very 1st year of the M.Tech program. For some specializations, candidates are also required to appear in the written test or personal interview rounds conducted by the institute itself. The candidate is required to appear in the online counseling process for the final selection to the B.Sc program at IISc. Selection to the B.Sc (Research) program is based on the entrance scores of following national level entrance exams such as KVPY/ JEE Main/ JEE Advanced/ NEET-UG etc. The institute offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc Research) program in six specializations Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Materials, Mathematics, and Environmental Science. The total fee charged by the IISC Bangalore for the 4 years of its B.Sc (Research) Programmes is INR 75,800. Candidates should have completed their II PUC / 12th Standard with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In addition, the candidate should have scored at least 60% marks in the II PUC / 12th Standard examination.
