Should I take NIT Surat for mechanical engineering or BITS Goa for an MSc in maths?

You will learn the theories of science instead of the application of technology. In Mathematics, you are supposed to learn the series of higher-order and their respective application. While, in Mechanical Engineering, you will learn more deeply about Engines, Boilers, Automobiles, Refrigerator Systems, and much more. A single degree, like Mechanical Engineering, CSE, EE, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, can be more advantageous than dual degrees. If you opt for a dual degree in Mathematics, you have a higher probability of becoming a mathematician or a professor. But, in case you pursue Mechanical Engineering from NIT Surat, then you bear higher chances of securing a placement offer at top-tier MNCs. Your choice should always remain ahead of most others. The one piece of advice is that in NIT Surat, you supposedly cannot change your degree from M.Sc to B.Tech following the 1st year and vice versa. You should research the same for BITS Goa and find whether or not the rule is similarly applicable in the institute. This is the basic difference you can find between both institutes.

The majority of the faculty are PhDs from prestigious IITs and well experienced in their particular fields. Furthermore, there are numerous mechanical clubs that are well established. So, in addition to excellent classroom teaching, you would gain hands-on experience on practical projects. If you are not looking at the branch, then you should think about going to SVNIT for Mechanical. Having friends study in both the institutes, I might be able to provide some details about them. However, if you have decided that you would like to go for computers and if you could handle that field, IIIT Vadodara is a pretty good choice. But many people will also advise you to not compare the two branches as they are quite different. NIT Surat is a better option facility wise but let me tell you that getting a job in the mechanical core is quite difficult. A lot of students will also opt for software fields. How is a dual degree in mechanical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar in comparison with NIT Surat (SVNIT) mechanical engineering?

I pursued my B.Tech Mechanical from SVNIT, thus, I can only comment on my college. The faculty of the mechanical department is top notch. Majority of our teachers are highly driven. It is because of them that mechanical is the most famous branch of our college. Our teachers emphasize practical knowledge over mere theoretical understanding. Many of them have more than 10 years of experience in teaching. The department has enough professors, so very few courses are taken by TAs. The faculty is very helpful for projects and research work. The curriculum for B.Tech Mechanical is very rich, and you’ll get to choose one elective per semester in the 3rd and 4th year. You can choose courses from other branches as well. You can choose management courses, programming courses, physics related courses, automobile courses, etc. SVNIT is probably the only college that teaches its students topics like Mechatronics, Computational fluid mechanics (CFD), Cryogenics, etc. at the UG level itself. Unfortunately, like most other colleges, our practical syllabus and lab equipment needs to be upgraded. The labs do not contain equipment of the latest technology. The workshop contains all conventional and non conventional machines like lathe, shoper, milling, grinding, welding, abrasive jet machine, EDM, 3-D printer, etc. As far as B.Tech Mechanical at SVNIT is concerned, I would say it is quite a decent option.

Total fees per year(including hostel, mess registration, development fees etc) is approx 200000 Total tution fees per semester is 62500 Total mess fees per semester is 19500 Even I am receiving 100% tution fee remission because my family income is less than 1 lakh. The fees for doing BTECH in any branch is 70000 per semester and there are two semesters per year in which hostel is not included. There is no fees for SC and ST students. Also if the family income of student is less than 1 lac no fees is required to pay . If income is less than 5 lac 2/3rd remission is provided

SVNIT - FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF A FRESHER

The year wise tution fees for my batch that is 2024-25 is 99,000 rs in the 1st semester , 70,000 rs in the 2nd semester, 76k in 3rd , 70k in 4th , 76k in 5th , 70k in 6th, 80500 in 7th and 70k in the final semester. The overall fees is 611500 rs for four years. Tution fees is same in all semestets i.e 62500 rs and the same with other fees which is 7500rs for every semester. The remaining fee include a one time admission fee which is 3000rs to be paid in the 1st semester, a one time degree and alumni fee of 2500 and 2000rs respectively to be paid in the 7th semester
