ADBU BA Psychology FAQs

Ques. Does ADBU's BA Psychology programme prepare students for RCI registration or clinical practice?

Ans. The BA (Hons.) Psychology at ADBU is an undergraduate programme that provides a strong foundation in psychology but does not by itself qualify graduates for clinical practice or RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) registration. To practice as a clinical psychologist or counsellor in India, students typically need to complete an M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology (RCI-recognised) or an MA/MSc in Psychology followed by relevant certification. However, the BA programme at ADBU is an excellent stepping stone, and the university also offers MSc Psychology at the postgraduate level, allowing students to continue their education within the same institution.

Ques. What is the difference between BA (Hons.) Psychology and BA (Hons.) Philosophy at ADBU? Which one should I choose?

Ans. Both programmes are offered at the Tapesia Campus with the same fee structure and seat intake of 60. BA (Hons.) Psychology focuses on the scientific study of human behaviour, mental processes, and psychological disorders, with career paths in counselling, clinical psychology, HR, and research. BA (Hons.) Philosophy, on the other hand, focuses on critical thinking, ethics, metaphysics, and philosophical traditions, with career paths in civil services, academia, law, and social work. If you are interested in mental health, human behaviour, and applied sciences, Psychology is the better choice. If you are drawn to abstract reasoning, ethics, and humanities, Philosophy would suit you better.

Ques. Is there a psychology lab or counselling centre at ADBU for BA Psychology students?

Ans. Yes, the Department of Psychology and Counselling at ADBU has dedicated facilities for psychology students. The department runs a counselling centre on campus that serves both as a student support service and as a practical training ground for psychology students. Students get hands-on exposure to counselling techniques, psychological assessments, and case studies as part of their curriculum, particularly in the later semesters when Counselling Psychology and Applied Social Psychology are covered. This practical component is a significant advantage of studying psychology at ADBU compared to many other institutions.

Ques. Can I pursue MSc Psychology at ADBU after completing BA (Hons.) Psychology from the same university?

Ans. Yes, ADBU offers MSc Psychology at the postgraduate level, and BA (Hons.) Psychology graduates from ADBU are eligible to apply for the MSc programme. This allows students to continue their education within the same campus and benefit from continuity in faculty, curriculum, and campus life. Admission to MSc Psychology is also through the university's own entrance process. Students interested in research or clinical careers are strongly advised to pursue the MSc after their BA.

Ques. What are the career options after BA (Hons.) Psychology from ADBU? Is the degree recognised for government jobs?

Ans. A BA (Hons.) Psychology degree from ADBU opens up a wide range of career options. Graduates can work as counsellors in schools, NGOs, and corporate settings, pursue HR roles in organisations, work in community mental health programmes, or appear for competitive exams like UPSC/APSC where Psychology is an optional subject. The degree is awarded by ADBU, a UGC-recognised private university, making it valid for government job applications that require a UG degree. For specialised roles like clinical psychologist or school psychologist, further postgraduate qualifications are typically required.

Ques. How competitive is admission to BA (Hons.) Psychology at ADBU? What is the typical profile of students who get admitted?

Ans. Admission to BA (Hons.) Psychology at ADBU is moderately competitive, with 60 seats available. The selection is based on Class 12 marks and performance in the DBU-GET entrance test and personal interview. Students from any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) with at least 50% in Class 12 are eligible. In practice, students with a background in Biology or Social Sciences tend to find the initial semesters (Biopsychology, Introduction to Psychology) more familiar, but students from other streams adapt quickly. The personal interview is an important component, and students who can articulate their interest in human behaviour and psychology tend to perform well.
