IIIT Hyderabad conducts its own entrance exams (UGEE, SPEC, LEEE) and its own interviews. The decision on final admission is solely based on interview performance.

IIIT Hyderabad B.Tech Selection Criteria 2026 (JEE Channel)
IIIT Hyderabad ranks all JEE-channel applicants purely by their JEE Main 2026 total percentile. Tiebreaking goes first to Maths percentile, then Physics, then Chemistry. There is no interview for this channel.
The JEE channel has 100 seats for B.Tech CSE and 70 seats for B.Tech ECE. These are split into two pools.

The Diversity Pool fills first. Only female applicants in the top 1 percentile of JEE Main are eligible for the Diversity Pool. All female applicants may also compete for Common Pool seats.
Note: IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in JoSAA. Do not apply through josaa.nic.in for IIITH. Apply directly at ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in. The JoSAA portal lists many IIITs but IIIT Hyderabad is NOT among them.
Based on previous years, B.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad has a General category closing rank of approximately 800 to 1,200 in the final allotment round, while B.Tech ECE closes around 2,000 to 3,000. These are among the most competitive cutoffs of any IIIT in India.
How to Apply for B.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad (JEE Channel)?
- Visit ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in and click on the JEE channel.
- Register and fill the online application form.
- Report your JEE Main 2026 total percentile, application number, and scorecard.
- Select your programme preference order (CSE or ECE or both).
- Pay the application fee of INR 2,500 (male) or INR 1,500 (female).
- Await seat allotment results. Accept by paying INR 10,000 seat acceptance fee plus the first semester tuition fee.
Key Insight: Select only the programmes you genuinely want to join. Listing ECE as a preference when you only want CSE can block you from getting ECE and also wastes a seat that another candidate wanted. If you want only CSE, list CSE alone.
IIIT Hyderabad Dual Degree Admission 2026 (UGEE)
The UGEE channel is the flagship route for IIIT Hyderabad's 5-year B.Tech + MS by Research dual degree programmes. These programmes produce research-oriented engineers. The MS degree requires a research thesis. UGEE had 120 total seats across six dual-degree specialisations for 2026.

IIIT Hyderabad is the most competitive and most research-focused among all three. Its JEE channel closing rank is higher than IIIT Delhi and IIIT Bangalore. Candidates who want a research-oriented dual degree should strongly consider IIIT Hyderabad's UGEE route. Candidates who want a straightforward B.Tech without an institute-level exam may find IIIT Delhi more accessible through JoSAA.

Tuition fee for the 2026-27 academic year is INR 5,00,000 per annum for all programmes (single degree and dual degree). Hostel charges are approximately INR 6,000 per month and mess charges approximately INR 5,000 per month.

- Alumni Pay-It-Forward Fund: Available from the 2nd semester for students whose family income is below INR 8 lakhs per annum. The student agrees to pay tuition fees of another student after graduating and starting to earn. Students above this income limit may also apply; a committee evaluates merit.
Note: IIIT Hyderabad does not have government scholarships like NSP or SC/ST financial assistance since the institute has no reservation and is not under the standard OBC/SC/ST/EWS framework.

Ans. No. IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in JoSAA. All admissions happen through the institute's own portal at ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in. There are eight separate channels including JEE Main, UGEE, SPEC, LEEE, Olympiad, Boards, and DASA. Each has its own application deadline and process.
Ques. What is the minimum JEE Main percentile to get B.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad?
Ans. Based on previous years, the General category closing rank for B.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad is approximately 800 to 1,200 in the final round. This requires a JEE Main total percentile of roughly 99.9 or above. These are among the most competitive cutoffs of any IIIT.
Ques. What is the difference between the JEE channel and the UGEE channel at IIIT Hyderabad?
