IIIT Hyderabad Admission 2026 is fully managed through the institute's own portal at ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in. There is no JoSAA or centralised counselling involved. IIIT Hyderabad offers two 4-year B.Tech single-degree programmes and six 5-year B.Tech + MS dual-degree programmes, with eight separate admission channels, each with its own exam and process.

The flagship 4-year B.Tech (CSE and ECE) admits students through JEE Main scores, SPEC, DASA, and Olympiad routes. The dual-degree programmes additionally use UGEE, Boards, LEEE, and Olympiad. IIIT Hyderabad conducts its own entrance exams (UGEE, SPEC, LEEE) and its own interviews. The decision on final admission is solely based on interview performance.

Admission Update:
  • B.Tech (JEE Channel): Applications closed (19 May 2026). Seat allotment in progress via the admission portal.
  • Dual Degree (UGEE): Exam held on 2 May 2026. Interview results and Round-1 seat allocation announced on 11 June 2026. Round-2 allotment expected in July 2026.
  • DASA (Students Abroad): Applications closed 22 May 2026. Round-1 results announced on 10 June 2026. Accept seat by 25 June 2026.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has no management quota and no reservation of any kind. All seats are filled purely on merit.
  • Application fee is INR 2,500 (JEE channel) and INR 3,100 (UGEE channel) for male applicants. Female applicants pay a reduced fee of INR 1,500 (JEE) and INR 1,550 (UGEE).
  • IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in JoSAA counselling. All admissions happen via the institute's own portal.
  • A seat acceptance fee of INR 10,000 (non-refundable) plus the first semester fee of INR 2,50,000 must be paid to confirm a seat.

Direct Admission at IIIT Hyderabad: IIIT Hyderabad does not offer a management quota or NRI quota. All seats are allocated through competitive entrance exams, merit lists, and interviews conducted by the institute itself.

IIIT Hyderabad B.Tech Admission 2026 (JEE Channel)

The JEE channel at IIIT Hyderabad admits students to the 4-year B.Tech in CSE and ECE. IIIT Hyderabad uses JEE Main 2026 total percentile as the sole ranking criterion for this channel. Class 12 marks have no bearing on ranking or seat allotment.

IIIT Hyderabad B.Tech Important Dates 2026 (JEE Channel)

Event Date
Application Portal Opens 6 April 2026
Application Portal Closes 19 May 2026
Seat Allotment (Multiple Rounds) June–July 2026 (Tentative)

IIIT Hyderabad B.Tech Eligibility Criteria 2026

Programme Eligibility Accepted Exam
B.Tech CSE 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics & Chemistry in Class 12 by July 2026 JEE Main 2026 (Total Percentile)
B.Tech ECE 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics & Chemistry in Class 12 by July 2026 JEE Main 2026 (Total Percentile)

IIIT Hyderabad B.Tech Selection Criteria 2026 (JEE Channel)

IIIT Hyderabad ranks all JEE-channel applicants purely by their JEE Main 2026 total percentile. Tiebreaking goes first to Maths percentile, then Physics, then Chemistry. There is no interview for this channel.

The JEE channel has 100 seats for B.Tech CSE and 70 seats for B.Tech ECE. These are split into two pools.

Programme Common Pool Seats Diversity Pool Seats (Girls)
B.Tech CSE 75 25
B.Tech ECE 52 18

The Diversity Pool fills first. Only female applicants in the top 1 percentile of JEE Main are eligible for the Diversity Pool. All female applicants may also compete for Common Pool seats.

Note: IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in JoSAA. Do not apply through josaa.nic.in for IIITH. Apply directly at ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in. The JoSAA portal lists many IIITs but IIIT Hyderabad is NOT among them.

Based on previous years, B.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad has a General category closing rank of approximately 800 to 1,200 in the final allotment round, while B.Tech ECE closes around 2,000 to 3,000. These are among the most competitive cutoffs of any IIIT in India.

How to Apply for B.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad (JEE Channel)?

  • Visit ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in and click on the JEE channel.
  • Register and fill the online application form.
  • Report your JEE Main 2026 total percentile, application number, and scorecard.
  • Select your programme preference order (CSE or ECE or both).
  • Pay the application fee of INR 2,500 (male) or INR 1,500 (female).
  • Await seat allotment results. Accept by paying INR 10,000 seat acceptance fee plus the first semester tuition fee.

Key Insight: Select only the programmes you genuinely want to join. Listing ECE as a preference when you only want CSE can block you from getting ECE and also wastes a seat that another candidate wanted. If you want only CSE, list CSE alone.

IIIT Hyderabad Dual Degree Admission 2026 (UGEE)

The UGEE channel is the flagship route for IIIT Hyderabad's 5-year B.Tech + MS by Research dual degree programmes. These programmes produce research-oriented engineers. The MS degree requires a research thesis. UGEE had 120 total seats across six dual-degree specialisations for 2026.

As per a Quora Discussion by a former IIIT Hyderabad student parliament member, the UGEE interview panel is encouraging and gives hints when a candidate is stuck. Professors follow threads from your answers, so be honest about what you know and what you don't.

  • Fill the application form and submit the fee: INR 3,100 (male) or INR 1,550 (female).

An aggregate of 80% marks (or 8.0 CGPA) is strongly encouraged. Application fee is INR 3,100.

IIIT Hyderabad LEEE Selection Process 2026

LEEE has two written papers: an Aptitude Test (60 minutes) and a Subject Test (120 minutes). Subject test for CSD is CSE topics; for ECD it is ECE topics. Negative marking of 25% applies to both. Shortlisted candidates appear for an online interview. Final admission is based solely on interview performance.

Note: LEEE is one of the most underused admission channels at IIIT Hyderabad. Only 30 seats are available (15 CSD + 15 ECD) for students already in engineering programmes. Competition is lower than UGEE. If you are in your 2nd year of B.Tech with a strong academic record, this route is worth serious consideration.

IIIT Hyderabad is the most competitive and most research-focused among all three. Its JEE channel closing rank is higher than IIIT Delhi and IIIT Bangalore. Tuition fee for the 2026-27 academic year is INR 5,00,000 per annum for all programmes (single degree and dual degree). Hostel charges are approximately INR 6,000 per month and mess charges approximately INR 5,000 per month.

IIIT Hyderabad offers two forms of financial support.

  • Alumni Pay-It-Forward Fund: Available from the 2nd semester for students whose family income is below INR 8 lakhs per annum. The student agrees to pay tuition fees of another student after graduating and starting to earn. Students above this income limit may also apply; a committee evaluates merit.

Note: IIIT Hyderabad does not have government scholarships like NSP or SC/ST financial assistance since the institute has no reservation and is not under the standard OBC/SC/ST/EWS framework.

IIIT Hyderabad Admission FAQs

Ques. Does IIIT Hyderabad participate in JoSAA counselling?

Ans. No. IIIT Hyderabad does not participate in JoSAA. All admissions happen through the institute's own portal at ugadmissions.iiit.ac.in. There are eight separate channels including JEE Main, UGEE, SPEC, LEEE, Olympiad, Boards, and DASA. Each has its own application deadline and process.

Ques. What is the minimum JEE Main percentile to get B.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad?

Ans. Based on previous years, the General category closing rank for B.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad is approximately 800 to 1,200 in the final round. This requires a JEE Main total percentile of roughly 99.9 or above. These are among the most competitive cutoffs of any IIIT.

Ques. What is the difference between the JEE channel and the UGEE channel at IIIT Hyderabad?

Ans. The JEE channel admits students to 4-year B.Tech programmes (CSE and ECE) based on JEE Main percentile only. No interview. The UGEE channel admits students to 5-year dual degree programmes (B.Tech + MS by Research) through a 3-hour entrance exam followed by a mandatory on-campus interview. The interview solely determines final admission in the UGEE channel.

Ques. Does IIIT Hyderabad offer reservation for OBC, SC, ST, or EWS candidates?

Ans. No. IIIT Hyderabad has no reservation of any kind. All seats are allocated purely on merit. There is no OBC, SC, ST, EWS, or PwD quota. The only diversity initiative is the Diversity Pool in the JEE channel, which allocates 25% of seats to female applicants who are in the top 1 percentile of JEE Main.

Ques. Can a student who passed Class 12 in 2022 or earlier apply through UGEE?

Ans. No. The UGEE channel requires candidates to have passed Class 12 between 2023 and June 2026. Candidates who passed in 2022 or earlier are not eligible for UGEE. However, they may still apply through the JEE channel, which has no such year restriction.

Ques. Is there a management quota or direct admission at IIIT Hyderabad?

Ans. No. IIIT Hyderabad has no management quota, NRI quota, or direct admission of any kind. Every seat is filled through competitive merit. Any third-party company claiming to provide direct admission to IIIT Hyderabad is fraudulent. The institute has clearly warned about this on its official website.

Ques. What is the UGEE interview like? How should I prepare?

Ans. The UGEE interview is held on campus and is conducted by a faculty panel. Professors pick threads from your own answers. If you claim to know a topic, they will probe it deeply. The panel is known to be encouraging and gives hints. Prepare your Class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, especially Maths, Physics, and Logic. Be honest about the limits of your knowledge. The decision on admission is solely based on interview performance.

Ques. What is the total fee for B.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad for 4 years?

Ans. Tuition fee is INR 5,00,000 per annum for 2026-27. Total tuition for 4 years would be approximately INR 20 lakhs. In addition, hostel costs are approximately INR 6,000 per month and mess charges approximately INR 5,000 per month. The SBI Scholar Loan of up to INR 40 lakhs is available to all admitted students without collateral.

Second, students who studied at a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) from Class 6 to 12. Droppers are not eligible. SPEC offers 20 seats each in B.Tech CSE and B.Tech ECE. Selection is through a 60-minute exam followed by an online interview.

On what basis do you get admission in IIIT Hyderabad?

Durgesh Rai
Tushar RanaB.Tech from IIIT Hyderabad

To get admission into regular B.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad, you need to score minimum 250 marks in JEE Mains. You also need a good percentage in 12th boards, and more than 85 marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The subject-wise cutoff is usually 85 or more for all the three. As for dual degree admissions, you need to clear UGEE and a subsequent interview. Make sure to check the 12th marks requirement for the same, if any. The college also intakes a limited number of dual degree students through lateral admissions.

IIIT Hyderabad does not offer any reservation, and it is quite difficult to get into.

Should I apply for the 2nd round with a percentile of 99.233rd at IIIT Hyderabad?

Raktim Tarafdar
Aishwarya ShastriLives in Hyderabad

No, I don’t think it’s wise to apply for the 2nd round with a percentile of 99.233rd at IIIT Hyderabad. Based on the cutoffs, the minimum percentile required to get IIIT Hyderabad CSE is 99.78 whereas for ECE is 98.87. Even if you end up getting ECE in the subsequent rounds you will end up losing a lot of money. Moreover, paying a sum of 20k just for a single round is not justified especially when your chances are slim.

Additionally, only half of the fee is considered an advance tuition fee. So you will lose a lot of money whether you get admission or not. It’s better to try another IIIT or a NIT than IIIT Hyderabad. But if you are adamant, you can surely try your luck!

What is the lateral entry for IIIT Hyderabad?

Anupama Chauhanstudied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

Lateral Admission means getting admission in the mid of the session from another college. Many students pursuing BE or BTech in other colleges get lateral admission into IIIT Hyderabad in the second year. For this, they need to go through a separate admission process. This process includes a written entrance exam followed by an interview.

Moreover, Lateral Entry students are offered a very limited variety of streams like

  • CSD: B.Tech + M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering.
  • ECD: B.Tech + M.S. in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Also, it’s important to note that Lateral Entry gets admission in the second year only. So irrespective of which year you belonged to, you will have to study again from the second year.

This mode of admission gives a second chance to those who couldn’t clear the exam initially.

On average, there were 50 centers, and considering each center had 100 students, the total number of students who appeared for the IIIT Hyderabad Lateral Entry Programme was around 5000. In her examination center, only 45 students were shortlisted for interview, out of which only 37 students actually attended the interview.
