IIITH PGEE 2026 Cutoff

The IIITH PGEE 2026 cutoff is the minimum score required for seat allotment in each M.Tech programme. The official 2026 cutoff will be confirmed only after all rounds are complete. Based on previous year trends, you can estimate the expected score range for PGEE 2026.

IIITH PGEE Previous Year Cutoff Scores (M.Tech Programmes)

Programme 2024 Cutoff (out of 90) 2025 Cutoff (out of 90) Expected 2026 Range
M.Tech CSE ~47 47.00–48.25 45–50
M.Tech CSIS ~45.7 ~45–46 44–48
M.Tech PDM ~38–42 ~38–42 38–43
M.Tech CASE ~30–35 ~30–36 30–36
M.Tech VLSI ~35–40 ~35–41 35–42

Source: PGEE Official Portal — pgadmissions.iiit.ac.in

Factors That Affect IIITH PGEE Cutoff

  • Number of applicants: More candidates competing for the same seats pushes the cutoff higher.
  • Paper difficulty: A harder exam tends to bring the cutoff down; an easier paper raises it.
  • Seat availability: Unfilled seats from earlier rounds may allow lower-ranked candidates to receive offers in later rounds, effectively lowering the final cutoff.
  • Programme popularity: M.Tech CSE consistently has the highest cutoff. Programmes like CASE and PDM attract fewer CSE-background candidates and typically have lower cutoffs.

You should aim to score at least 50+ out of 90 to be safe for M.Tech CSE at IIIT Hyderabad. For CASE and PDM, scoring above 35–40 may be sufficient based on previous year trends.

Note: IIIT Hyderabad is an autonomous institute with merit-based admissions. There are no category-wise (OBC/SC/ST) reservations for PGEE. These cutoff figures are indicative based on previous years and are not officially published by IIIT Hyderabad.

IIITH PGEE 2026 Counselling and Seat Acceptance Process

IIITH PGEE 2026 counselling for M.Tech is entirely online through the official admissions portal. There is no in-person counselling or physical reporting required for M.Tech at this stage. The process is merit-based and runs across multiple seat allotment rounds.

How the M.Tech Seat Allotment Process Works

  1. Score Calculation: After the exam, IIIT Hyderabad computes your total score using Paper I and Paper II marks combined.
  2. Merit Ranking: A merit list is prepared separately for each M.Tech programme. Your position on this list determines when you receive a seat offer.
  3. Seat Offer in Rounds: In each round, seats are offered to candidates in merit-rank order based on their programme preferences. Check your seat allotment status after each round on the portal.
  4. Seat Acceptance: If you are allocated a seat, accept it within the given window. Acceptance requires paying INR 10,000 (admission fee) plus INR 2,50,000 (first semester tuition) = INR 2,60,000 total.
  5. Seat Decline: If you choose not to accept a seat offer, decline it on the portal. The seat goes back to the pool for the next round. This may happen if you are waiting for a preferred programme in a later round.
  6. Subsequent Rounds: Candidates who did not receive or declined an offer in earlier rounds may receive new offers in later rounds as vacancies are created.

Refund Schedule for M.Tech Seat Cancellation

Round of Initial Acceptance Refund Amount (if cancelled)
Round 1 (accepted by 14th May) Up to INR 2,25,000
Round 2 (accepted by 19th May) Up to INR 1,87,500
Round 3 (accepted by 1st June) Up to INR 1,25,000
Round 4 (deadline TBA) To be announced

The INR 10,000 admission fee is always non-refundable regardless of when you cancel. The refund amounts above apply only to the tuition component. Seat allocation is final after the last round — no upgrades are permitted even if seats remain unfilled.

IIITH PGEE 2026: On-Campus Interviews for M.S and Ph.D

IIIT Hyderabad uses a two-stage process for M.S by Research and Ph.D admissions. Stage 1 is your PGEE written exam performance — it determines whether you are shortlisted. Stage 2 is an on-campus interview at the IIIT Hyderabad campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. M.Tech candidates do not have an interview — their selection is entirely based on the written exam.

  • BioInformatics and Computational Natural Sciences
  • Computational Linguistics
  • Spatial Informatics
  • Cognitive Science

How to Prepare for IIITH PGEE

IIITH PGEE is competitive — the cutoff for M.Tech CSE has been around 47–48 marks out of 90 in recent years. This means you need consistent, subject-focused preparation rather than broad coverage. Here are practical tips for both papers.

For Paper I: General Aptitude

  • Practice daily: Solve at least 20–30 aptitude questions every day. Focus on accuracy since the 25% negative marking makes random guessing costly.
  • Cover all three areas: Numerical ability, logical reasoning, and basic computer knowledge are equally tested. Do not skip any area.
  • Standard books work well: R.S. Aggarwal’s Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning are widely used and provide more than enough practice material.
  • Time yourself: 90 minutes for Paper I sounds comfortable, but practice under timed conditions. If a question takes too long, skip and come back.

For Paper II: CSE Subject Paper

  • GATE CSE overlap: If you have prepared for GATE CSE, a large portion of the PGEE CSE syllabus is already covered. Focus especially on data structures, algorithms, OS, databases, and computer networks.
  • Programming practice is essential: Paper II CSE has a coding or programming component. Practice writing, reading, and tracing C/C++ code. Solve problems on competitive programming platforms regularly.
  • Understand, do not memorise: PGEE tests conceptual understanding more than rote memory. Make sure you know why an algorithm works, not just how to write it.
  • Discrete Mathematics: This topic gets significant coverage in the CSE paper. Work through logic, graph theory, combinatorics, and proof techniques from Kenneth Rosen’s textbook.

For M.S and Ph.D Interview Preparation

  • Know your research area: Be clear about what area you want to pursue. Study the research groups and faculty publications on the IIIT Hyderabad website before your interview.
  • Prepare your project summary: Faculty panels ask about your final-year project or prior research. Have a clear, 5-minute structured explanation ready.
  • Read 2–3 recent papers: Familiarise yourself with recent work from the faculty you want to work with. This demonstrates genuine research motivation and often impresses interviewers.

General PGEE Preparation Tips

  • Start at least 3–4 months before the exam. Both papers need sustained effort — last-minute preparation is rarely sufficient.
  • Take full 3-hour mock tests under exam conditions to build stamina and improve time management across the complete duration.
  • With 25% negative marking, skip questions you have no idea about. Only attempt questions you have reasonable confidence in answering correctly.
  • Memory-based previous year PGEE question papers are available in student communities and GitHub repositories. Solving them gives you a realistic sense of difficulty and question style.
