- The quality of teaching of some of the professors was top notch. I was quite lucky with a few of them.
- Our campus and the facilities provided to us were actually very nice. We had 2 libraries- The diamond and the information commons which were open 24x7 to support us.
- I think I made friends with students of many different countries. The people in our college were really diverse and came from different different countries which I never thought I would make friends from.
Dislikes
- The complaint I had with my course was it somehow lacked industry exposure and practical knowledge which would have made me understand things better. A lot of it focused on theory.
- Rising cost of living expenses in the UK. It still was used to be better when I was there but recently prices of accomodations and grocery stores have shot up massively.
- The weather could be a bummer for alot of people. Here in Sheffield, it rains almost everyday maybe and the weather is always gloomy. I was okay with it at one point but it used to bother a lot to my friends.
Course Curriculum

- I would say that for someone studying in India, the curriculum was not at all tough. It was easy to pass through, and with a little extra effort, you get top marks too.
- A positive thing about my course would be the demand for it all over the world. There were good labs and infrastructure to accommodate and provide the best technical facilities.
- Negative part would be the not so much focus on practical knowledge and focus on self learning in general all over the UK.
- There were typically 2-3 classes scheduled in a day only, which was very freeing, giving time to self-study and also socialise.
- Lectures had around 70-80 people. Lab sessions were divided and usually of 30-35 people.
- Out of around 80-90 people in my course, around 30 were Indians. So the Indian community was quite big there.
Fees
- I did a master's course, so the fees for me were around £25000. We had an option to pay in full once or in 2 installments.
- I used to live in a private student accommodation which cost me around £8000 for 51 51-week tenancy.
- The fee structure was either yearly or semester-wise.
- I was very bad at cooking and did not want to waste a lot of my time. So I personally used to spend somewhere around £700 a month, which included my food, grocer,ies and in general, transportation and daily life expenditures.
- There were people who used to spend half of it as well and were comfortable. I just didn’t think much when I was spending my money.

- The curriculum is well structured to teach the students from basics to advance concepts.
- Majority of the subjects in my course had assignment related grading schemes.
- There were weekly quizs to keep the sessions interactive.

- Now the fee has increased to around 30K pounds since the University has climbed up in the top universities ranking.

- I really liked the way of teaching at my university. It was easy for me to learn.
- The professors were friendly and easily approachable.
- The Students Union at my university are very supportive.

- The University Accomodation was very expensive , though it was near the university.
- I disliked because the university didn’t hold any competitions or events to encourage students.
- I also disliked that each buildings are far from each other , which made commuting difficult.

- The course curriculum was practical as well as theoretical.
- The most positive aspect was they gave me many assignments to complete, which improved my practical knowledge.
Fees
- The full breakdown of the fees was 1,000 GBP for Deposit, and 28,750 for my tuition fees , where I was awarded a 2,500 GBP scholarship.
- The fees are charged in two terms (termly).
- An estimate of my monthly expenses would be 600 GBP. 100 GBP for groceries and laundry expenses. 100 GBP for transport and other expenses. 400 GBP for my accommodation rent.

Likes
- The Campus is scattered around the city (Close to each other), so you get a lot of chances to roam around the city and take lectures.
- The professors here (Specially in Data Science) are quite knowledgeable and experienced so getting the guidance is quite fruitful.
- The Student Union in Sheffield is one of the best in the UK, so there are a lot of societies and clubs to join and there's always an event going to happen.
Dislikes
- Food is a bit of an issue, I mean the canteen is good but for Indians, you have to find somewhere else to eat.
- As mentioned the campus is scattered across the city, which is good but sometimes it kind of becomes a hassle when you have to walk for 30 minutes before a lecture every morning.
- Relatively expensive things here at the University.

- The MSc Data Science course at the University of Sheffield is considered to be moderately demanding since, besides theoretical knowledge, practical skills are also gained. While the basics might be easy for students who have experience, advanced modules and project work ensure depth and application-based learning.
- Pros: Diverse curriculum with both academic and industry orientation. Practical projects and hands-on lab work enhance real-world skills. Supportive faculty, advanced computing labs, and resources are definite positives.
- Cons: Initial modules in the course may seem a bit too basic for someone with loads of prior experience. The workload is immense during assessment periods.
- Class Schedule: There are approximately 1-2 classes a day, often between 9 AM and 5 PM, allowing for breaks in between. The timings depend on modules and workshops.
- Ideally, the pedagogy here combines lectures, practical labs, and project-based learning to make students pick up theoretical knowledge along with hands-on experience. That is quite a very effective way of preparing us for the job market, having strong emphases on real-world applications and industrial tools, along with programming skills.
- Course content coupled with faculty guidance thus prepares one comprehensively for job placement in data science.
Fees
- The fees structure is simple it's 29,700 Pounds for international students.
- An estimation of monthly expense is quite subjective but I'd say around 200-300 Pounds without rent is a good range.
- The rent is also dependent on where you live so if it's near city center then it's gonna be a bit higher if farther then a bit on the lower side.
- The credit required for passing the masters in data science is 180.
