- Base postgraduate tuition from £24,000 (INR 30.48 Lakhs) per year with no application fee charged by Aberdeen.

University of Aberdeen Application Deadlines 2026-27
Aberdeen runs two major intakes each year for postgraduate study, September (primary) and January, with undergraduate entry limited to the September cycle via UCAS. Visa applicants face an earlier internal cut-off so the university can issue a CAS and leave room for UK visa processing.
| Intake | Level | Applications Open | Deadline | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 2026 Primary intake | Postgraduate Taught | Open now | 2 August 2026 (visa applicants) | PG Applicant Portal |
| September 2026 | Undergraduate (via UCAS) | Open now | 3 August 2026 (international late) | UCAS Hub |
| January 2027 | Postgraduate Taught | Open now | 30 November 2026 (visa applicants) | Direct Applicant Portal |
| September 2027 | Undergraduate (via UCAS) | 15 September 2026 | 14 January 2027 (equal consideration) | UCAS Hub |
| September 2027 | UG Medicine or Dentistry | 15 September 2026 | 15 October 2026 (early cut-off) | UCAS Hub |
Planning note: The 2 August 2026 postgraduate deadline is the last comfortable date for Indian visa applicants. Non-visa applicants (UK-based) have until 6 September. Missing both means falling back to January 2027 with a 30 November 2026 deadline.
A non-refundable deposit of £5,000 (INR 6.35 Lakhs) applies to specific PG programs and is due by 23 August 2026 for the September 2026 intake, or 18 December 2026 for January 2027.
University of Aberdeen Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students
Aberdeen’s Indian entry benchmarks split by course discipline for undergraduate study and by the ranking of your Bachelor’s-awarding institution for postgraduate study, per the official India entry page. English-language proof is a separate check and often waived for Indian applicants (see the dedicated waiver section below).
Undergraduate (from Class XII):
- Arts: 75% overall plus 80% in English.
- Science: 75% overall with 75%+ in two sciences (or Maths plus a science), plus 80% English.
- Biomedical Sciences: 80% overall with 80%+ in two sciences plus 80% English.
- Engineering: 75% overall with 75%+ in Maths and Physics plus 80% English.
- Law (LLB): 80% overall plus 80% English.
Postgraduate Taught (from an Indian Bachelor’s):
- State or Central Universities: 60% for UK 2:2 equivalency. 55% accepted from the University of Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, IITs, and IIMs.
- Private or Deemed Universities: 65% for UK 2:2 equivalency. Check how Indian degrees align with UK standards.
- Business School (including MBA): A UK Honours-level degree, essentially a first-class Indian Bachelor’s.
- LLM: 55% with institution ranking, degree performance, and work experience jointly assessed.
Accepted English tests and minimum scores:
- IELTS Academic: UG 6.0 overall, PG 6.5 overall (writing 6.0 minimum).
- TOEFL iBT: UG 78 overall, PG 90 overall.
- PTE: UG 59 overall, PG 62 overall.
- Duolingo English Test: UG 105 overall, PG 120 overall, with sub-score floors.
- Cambridge English C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 176 overall.
University of Aberdeen IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Aberdeen exempts Indian applicants from IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE if they scored 80% or higher in English at Class XII and the qualification is less than 10 years old. This route covers CBSE, ICSE, and most state boards where English is a scored subject. A separate Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter waiver applies if your Indian Bachelor’s was fully taught and examined in English at a university on Aberdeen’s approved list. Either path avoids booking a test.
Insider note: A CBSE Class XII English score of 80 or above is the fastest waiver route for Indian UG applicants. No need to book IELTS if your board result already sits at the threshold.
University of Aberdeen PG Programs and Entry Bars for Indian Students
Aberdeen offers over 200 postgraduate taught programs, with strong Indian-applicant demand for oil and gas, data-facing sciences, business, and law. Base postgraduate tuition starts at £24,000 (INR 30.48 Lakhs) for most taught masters and rises to £31,000+ for specialist tracks. For a full course-wise fees breakdown, see the Fees page of Aberdeen University. The table below shows a representative Indian-applicant shortlist with verified entry bars.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| MBA | 12 months full-time | UK Honours Bachelor’s (Indian first-class) plus 2 years post-degree work experience | IELTS 6.5 |

| MSc Artificial Intelligence | 12 months | Bachelor’s at 60 to 65% in computing science or a closely related discipline | IELTS 6.5 |
| MSc Information Technology | 12 months | Bachelor’s at 60 to 65% in any discipline (conversion program) | IELTS 6.5 |
| MSc Petroleum Engineering | 12 months | Bachelor’s at 65%+ in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum, or a related engineering | IELTS 6.5 |
| Master of Public Health (MPH) | 12 months | Bachelor’s at 60 to 65% in health, life sciences, or social sciences | IELTS 6.5 |
| MSc International Business and Finance | 12 months | Bachelor’s at 60 to 65% in any discipline | IELTS 6.5 |
| LLM Oil and Gas Law with Dissertation | 12 months | Bachelor’s in Law at 55%+ (with institution and experience review) | IELTS 6.5 |
| MRes Psychology | 12 months | Bachelor’s at 65%+ (UK 2:1) in Psychology or a closely related discipline | IELTS 6.5 |
English-taught PG programs at Aberdeen follow the same IELTS 6.5 floor regardless of school, though Business, Law, and Social Sciences use the Postgraduate Higher band that raises the reading sub-score to 6.0.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Aberdeen postgraduate page for your chosen program before applying.
University of Aberdeen UG Programs and Entry Bars for Indian Students
Undergraduate degrees at the University of Aberdeen are Scottish four-year Honours degrees, delivered on the classical model where students take a broader first two years before specialising. Indian applicants apply through UCAS, not a direct portal. Class XII benchmarks below are institution-wide floors, individual courses may set higher subject thresholds.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| LLB (Bachelor of Laws) | 4 years | Class XII 80% overall plus 80% in English | IELTS 6.0 |
| BEng Petroleum Engineering | 4 years | Class XII 75% with 75%+ in Maths and Physics plus 80% English | IELTS 6.0 |
| BSc Mathematics | 4 years | Class XII 75% with 75%+ in Mathematics plus 80% English | IELTS 6.0 |
| BSc Biology | 4 years | Class XII 75% with 75%+ in Biology or a related science plus 80% English | IELTS 6.0 |
| BSc Chemistry | 4 years | Class XII 75% with 75%+ in Chemistry plus 80% English | IELTS 6.0 |
Advanced Entry to Year 2 is available for exceptional Class XII candidates with 80%+ overall and 85%+ in relevant subjects (BSc and MA) or 85% overall with 85% in Maths and Physics (BEng). MBChB Medicine requires Class XII 80%+, subject-specific thresholds, and IELTS 7.0, with entry through a separate School of Medicine and Dentistry route.
University of Aberdeen MBA Admissions
The Aberdeen MBA is a 12-month full-time or 24-month part-time program delivered by the Business School with a January or September start. The program is open to graduates from any discipline and does not require prior business study at undergraduate level.
Aberdeen MBA Entry Requirements
- Academic: UK Honours Bachelor’s or equivalent (Indian first-class Bachelor’s from a recognised university).
- Work experience: Minimum 2 years post-degree professional experience, documented with a track record of achievement.
- References: One satisfactory professional reference discussing your role, performance, and suitability. Self-employed applicants may use a key business partner.
- English: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90, or PTE 62 (or an English-medium Bachelor’s with MOI letter).
- GMAT or GRE: Not required.
Aberdeen MBA Fees and Funding
Standard tuition for 2026-27 is £26,250 (INR 33.34 Lakhs) for the full 12-month program. Self-funded international applicants automatically receive the £8,000 (INR 10.16 Lakhs) Aberdeen Global Scholarship, reducing net tuition to £18,250 (INR 23.18 Lakhs). See funding options for Indian students for the full award list, including India Merit awards and the GREAT Scholarship (£10,000 or INR 12.7 Lakhs).
Reality check: Aberdeen’s MBA is a mid-career program, not a fresher path. The 2 years of work experience is a hard floor, not a preferred criterion. Fresh Bachelor’s graduates should look at the MSc International Business and Finance route instead.
University of Aberdeen PhD Admissions
PhD admissions at Aberdeen run on a rolling basis with no fixed institution-wide deadline for self-funded projects. Funded projects carry their own deadlines set by supervising schools and research councils. The application route depends on your start date: the current portal handles September 2025 to September 2026 starts, and the Direct Applicant Portal handles January 2027 onwards.
Aberdeen PhD Academic and English Requirements
- Academic: A Masters degree, or a first or upper-second class (2:1) Honours degree, in a directly relevant area.
- English: IELTS 6.5 overall (writing 6.0 minimum) or equivalent. The Class XII 80% English waiver does not apply to PhD, but MOI waivers do.
- Research proposal: Required for self-funded projects. 2 to 3 pages covering the research question, methodology, and fit with a named supervisor.
- References: Two academic references.
- Application fee: None.
Aberdeen PhD Funding for Indian Applicants
Funded PhD projects list stipend, tuition coverage, and any conditions on the individual project page. UKRI-linked studentships typically cover full tuition plus a maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate. Aberdeen’s own scholarships and studentships accept Indian applicants, with the GREAT Scholarship at £10,000 (INR 12.7 Lakhs) reopening for the 2027-28 cycle. The current 2026-27 GREAT deadline of 18 May 2026 has passed.
Planning note: Contact 2 or 3 potential supervisors with your CV and a one-page proposal draft before submitting the formal application. A pre-agreed supervisor makes an offer far more likely and speeds up school-level review by 4 to 6 weeks.
University of Aberdeen Application Process for Indian Students
The exact application route depends on level and intake. Undergraduate applicants use UCAS. Direct postgraduate applicants use the PG Applicant Portal for entry until September 2026, or the Direct Applicant Portal for entry from January 2027 onwards. PhD applicants apply through the same portals, matched to their start date.
Step-by-step:
- Confirm eligibility. Check the India entry benchmarks and your program’s specific English requirement.
- Register on the correct portal. UCAS for UG. PG Applicant Portal for direct PG applications (September 2026 entry).
- Write your personal statement. 250 to 500 words on why Aberdeen, your qualities, and career goals for PG. UCAS statement for UG.
- Upload official transcripts. Final or provisional, with English translations if not originally in English.
- Attach English-test evidence or waiver proof. Class XII marksheet showing 80%+ English works as waiver evidence for UG.
- Submit your application. No application fee is charged by Aberdeen for direct PG or PhD applications. UG applicants pay UCAS’s own £28.50 single-course service fee.
- Respond to Admissions Officer queries. Requests for additional documents arrive by email, usually within 2 to 3 weeks.
- Receive your offer decision by email. Accept online in the portal.
- Pay the £5,000 (INR 6.35 Lakhs) deposit if your program is on the deposit-required list.
- Receive your CAS letter. Issued after offer acceptance, condition clearance, financial documentation, and passport review.
- Apply for the UK Student Visa as soon as CAS is received.
Aberdeen Admission Decision Timeline
Undergraduate offers via UCAS come by end of March 2026 for the September 2026 cycle, with 13 May 2026 as the guaranteed decision deadline. Postgraduate taught decisions typically arrive 4 to 6 weeks after a complete application, faster for programs with clear entry bars, slower for MBA and MRes routes that require reference checks. Deferral by one intake is generally permitted.
University of Aberdeen Documents Required for Indian Applicants
Aberdeen’s application checklist is short but strict on document quality. Every non-English document must be accompanied by a certified English translation. All documents are uploaded through the portal, not couriered.
- Passport bio page with at least 12 months of remaining validity.
- Official academic transcripts from every higher-education institution attended. Final if graduated, transcript-to-date if still studying.
- Degree certificate (PG applicants) or Class XII marksheet (UG applicants). Provisional certificate accepted if final is pending.
- Personal statement of 250 to 500 words (PG) or UCAS personal statement (UG).
- One professional reference letter for the MBA, or two academic references for PhD.
- CV or résumé for MBA, MRes, and PhD routes.
- English test score report or MOI letter from an approved institution.
- Financial documents (bank statements, sponsor letter, loan sanction) at CAS stage.
- Recent passport-size photograph for visa filing.
- Copies of any previous UK visa refusals, if applicable.
Before you apply: Request your official transcripts and provisional certificate 8 to 10 weeks before you plan to submit. Indian university transcript turnaround is the single most common cause of missed Aberdeen PG deadlines.
University of Aberdeen Acceptance Rate for International Students
The University of Aberdeen does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Aggregators consistently place it at around 78%, in line with Aberdeen’s access-oriented admissions model that admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English thresholds.
Which Aberdeen Programs Are Most Competitive?
Program-level selectivity varies sharply. MBChB Medicine and Dentistry operate on a much tighter cap, with UCAT scores and interview performance driving cut-offs. MSc Petroleum Engineering, MSc AI, and the MBA apply firmer entry bars because of cohort caps and Business School standards. Most other MSc and BSc programs sit close to Aberdeen’s institution-wide profile.
Insider note: Aberdeen’s high headline acceptance rate hides program-level variance. Petroleum Engineering, AI, and MBA offers are earned on academic-plus-experience fit. Do not treat the 78% institutional figure as your personal odds.
UK Student Visa for University of Aberdeen
Indian students admitted to Aberdeen apply for the UK Student Visa through the UK Home Office. Aberdeen issues the CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) once you have accepted your offer, met all conditions, paid the deposit if required, and provided financial documentation. The CAS is valid for 6 months from issue, and you can lodge your visa application up to 6 months before your course start date.
Because Aberdeen is outside London, the maintenance requirement is £10,539 (INR 11.69 Lakhs), based on 9 months at £1,171 per month. This amount must sit in your bank account for 28 consecutive days, and the closing balance on your statement must be dated within 31 days of the visa application. A single dip below the threshold during the 28-day window fails the financial check.
Along with tuition and maintenance, applicants pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for each year of the course, plus the visa application fee. Both are UK Home Office charges, not Aberdeen fees. After arrival, register with the school within the first week and complete police registration if your visa vignette requires it.
2026 update: UK maintenance thresholds refresh each year. Confirm the current figure on your CAS before locking your bank statement window, and never rely on a family member’s account unless they are your parent or legal guardian with signed consent.
Tips for University of Aberdeen Admissions
The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Aberdeen over the last two admission cycles.
- Submit PG applications by mid-July 2026, two weeks before the 2 August deadline, to leave room for reference chase-ups.
- Use the Class XII English 80% waiver if you qualify, and skip the IELTS booking entirely.
- Get the MBA reference from a direct manager, not HR, and check they can post the reference within 10 working days.
- Confirm your Bachelor’s institution ranking (state, central, private, deemed) with the admissions team before applying if you are borderline on%age.
- Pay the £5,000 (INR 6.35 Lakhs) deposit early if requested, since CAS issuance is gated on it.
- Book the earliest visa slot your CAS timing allows, as Aberdeen’s September start date is a peak processing window for VFS India.
University of Aberdeen admissions favour Indian applicants who meet the plain-text entry bars, submit clean documents on time, and use the Class XII English waiver when eligible. Move the September 2026 postgraduate application before 2 August 2026 or plan for the January 2027 intake with a 30 November 2026 deadline.
