Course Curriculum

8

  • Difficulty - Medium (easy for Indian students). It was more practical and grounded knowledge and lectures.
  • Positive aspect - the out-of-the-box teaching (including field trips and international trips)
  • Negative aspect - ethnicity ratio was extremely poor.
  • They teach one course at a time. Timings are from 9 to 5 or sometimes 6. (There is no gap in the middle). This happens during the first 3 months of the course and then this is mellowed down.
  • 70 students, 55 Indian students (approx.)

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following:
    • Edinburgh (MBA)—Received a rejection because it's one of the top universities for MBA and the waitlist was too high, they also had some minimum requirements, which I believe I didn't meet, like work experience. They needed a specific kind and number of years of work experience.
    • Glasgow (Masters in Marketing)— Shortlisted, but my main focus was MBA so I didn't admit myself to this course. However, it's a good course.
    • Durham (MBA)— Very high waitlist, top universities in the UK for MBA. I didn't meet the required expectations.
    • Manchester Business school (MBA)—Very high waitlist, top universities in the UK for MBA. I didn't meet the required expectations.
    • Lancaster University (MBA)—Admitted
    • Sheffield University (MBA)— I rejected the offer, as Lancaster had a better ranking and faculty.
  • One of the major factors was its top ranking in the United kingdom for MBA year after year. Another personal reason was my sister had previously studied at this college. Also, I received an 8500 pounds scholarship from the University which drove my decision. I had heard the faculty is amazing and also about their out-of-the-box teaching with international trips and more groundworkthan classroom teaching.
  • The admission process was simple; I just had to submit my documents like
    • My previous work experience letters
    • Past education
    • Any other work that I had done
    • And finally, the statement of purpose (SOP).
  • Once I submitted all this, I was shortlisted for an Interview, the same happened with Robyn Remke (Director of MBA), as she personally handpicks the batch. Once I cleared the interview, I was given an offer with a scholarship.
  • The only exam I gave was IELTS. I scored 7.5. Minimum was 6. The university accepts admissions based on this exam only. There is no need for GMAT etc (for MBA).
  • Honestly, there were no challenges as such; the university could take their time and keep you hanging. That is the only challenge. Otherwise the process was very simple, the documents were pretty straightforward and the interview was quick. Robyn Remke will notice everything in the interview and that will be the deciding factor for your admission and the scholarship amount, so it's advisable to stay calm, say the truth and choose a quiet room to give the interview. The questions were pretty basic and straight out of your SOP. Make sure you write your own SOP. Any plagiarism will not be appreciated. Rest the process was fine.
  • I applied to the Oct 2022 intake. This is the best time to apply for an MBA. Once you finish the course, the job market also opens around the same time, which is August.
  • The admission process takes more than 1 month. I applied during the end of April and the first week of May, and I got an offer on 1st June 2022 for the Oct 22 intake. During this time, you need to give the interview.

Faculty

8

  • Faculty-to-student ratio - There are 9 subjects. Each course is taught by a different faculty member. As I mentioned, they have an open-door policy; students can reach out to them at any time. They usually interacted with everyone after the class. And also during the class as well.
  • Yes, the course is great and sufficient to land a job. They give more practical knowledge with their lessons by presentations, field trips, simulation, speech therapies, etc.
  • No, they cannot assist in finding any jobs. They can help with resume building and also guide you. But they cannot refer or help you in any way. This is a self-task.
  • As mentioned earlier, Dr. Robyn Remke is the most remarkable person in the faculty. She is an orator and the most amazing life coach and mentor. She is grounded and tries to speak with everybody and networks in the most amazing way. Must go to Lancaster university for her lectures.

Campus Life

10

  • They have 1 campus and different accommodations.
    • Pendel (UG)
    • Lonsdale (UG)
    • Grizedale (UG)
    • Flyde (UG)
    • Furness (UG)
    • Graduate campus (PG)—Ensuite bedroom, bedroom with shared bathroom, studios, and Family accommodations.
  • All of the above are on the Lancaster University campus.
  • All facilities like - Library, sports hub, swimming pools, restaurants, gyms, Medical hub, grocery stores, and porters, are all available inside the campus.
  • Lancaster Arts, football clubs are very famous inside the campus. Also, the most famous one is the firecracker festival.
  • The campus allows all kinds of sports; they have a gym, swimming pool, football ground, table tennis, pool, etc. They also have common spaces for socialising like Grizedale hub, flyde hub, social hub. They allow food, pool, board games, and drinks there, and they also host matches there. Lancaster university also has a student organization that helps new admissions with any challenges.

Part Time Jobs

  • The percentage is negligible; only one out of 70 in our batch secured an RA position.
  • The pay grade that the Research assistant got was 500 pounds for the week.
  • There are very few on-campus opportunities available, as there are limited positions. However, outside of the campus a student can typically work at grocery stores, restaurants, gyms or even shopping stores. The minimum hourly wage is 9-10 pounds for an hour.
  • It is very difficult to secure a part-time job on campus, as positions are very limited. However, a student can easily secure a position in the sports hub as a receptionist.
  • 9-10 pounds per hour in part-time jobs. Allowed only 20 hours a week. It is also difficult to get a job because of time constraints, as an MBA is a very demanding course and classes take up most of the time. Students usually prefer something that is easy, like a bag boy/girl at a grocery store or a receptionist at the gym/sports hub. A student needs to take the CV to the employer; based on the demand, they will take an interview and grant you the job. You can typically ask for job openings at the student union and university portal. For outside campus, you can apply on either their website or visit them in person and submit your resume.

Placement

4

  • 20-25% secure employment within 6 months of completing the course.
  • Average salary range - 24000-36000 pounds annually.
  • Networking, LinkedIn, references, campus recruitment (usually 1 or 2 companies come in the middle of the course) and part-time jobs converted to full-time, like research analyst.
  • One of my batchmates got into Amazon (campus placement), and the rest applied through LinkedIn, joined their old companies in the UK branch, secured internships and converted them. A typical job through a LinkedIn application takes about 1-1.5 months to convert. One batchmate secured an internship at Louis Vuitton and secured a full-time job and another one got an T&T. A few others got at Loyd, Tesla.
  • Amazon is one of the most common companies that hire graduates, with British airways being the second and a few boutique consultancy firms.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • It was hostel on campus (provided by the university).
  • 600 pounds per month for 1 room (Attached bathroom)
  • No challenges; the university allots the accommodation. Just be early to fill in the form.
  • Yes, always take university accommodation. Saves a lot of time and money. And better for socialising.
  • The accommodation was on the campus. It is very close to where all the classes are held. So it makes it easier for everyone to commute on time.

Exams

  • Only IELTS is required (For MBA)
  • Documents -
    • CV
    • Previous experience letters
    • Past education certificates
    • Statement of purpose
    • IELTS Scorecard
  • Yes, the interview was a part of the application process; it's based on your SOP. It's a very basic interview to understand the student/university fit culturally, workwise, and personality-wise. It will be a video meeting. It was conducted by Robyn Remke (Director of MBA), and your whole admission/scholarship details are dependent on it. A student also gets a lot of clarity from the faculty and details about the course from this interview. You should ask questions after your interview (Min 1 question).

Fees

  • Tuition fees—26000 pounds.
  • (Total = 34500 pounds
  • Scholarship = 8500 pounds
  • Net = 26000 pounds)
  • Hostel fees - 600 pounds per month. (5400 pounds for 9 months - Oct to June)
  • No other fees; everything else was included.
  • You can choose any option. I took an early option and paid the whole amount up front, but on request, semester-wise fees are also acceptable.
  • Rent is basically hostel fees: 600 pounds per month.
  • Transportation = This is cheap, as you can use the bus for basic transportation, as this is a small town. Around 70-80 pounds (Totally subjective).
  • Food/grocery - Min 100 - 120 pounds per month.

Scholarship

  • Yes, as mentioned earlier, I received a scholarship.
  • Name: Lancaster Global Scholarship of £8,500. I had not applied for the scholarship; this was received based on the interview with Robyn Remke as mentioned previously. So eligibility is the interview only.
  • Award amount - 8500 pounds
  • Yes, other batchmates (almost everyone) received the same scholarship. There was limited financial aid available. You need to show the proof of those; I didn't apply for any financial aid, nor did any of my batchmates.
  • As mentioned, almost every person received an 8500 pounds scholarship. This was default. I had 70 people in my class.
