Course Curriculum

10

  • My curriculum is a blend of theoretical and practical aspects. On the positive side, it helps develop strong research skills, beneficial for pursuing a PhD.
  • However, its scope outside academia, particularly for non-PhD careers, isn’t very clear. I’m also unsure whether the university’s facilities provide substantial assistance in job placements. I believe more interaction and asking regarding jobs can give helpful insights.

Admission Experience

  • I had applied to colleges in the UK.
  • 1. University of Leeds -accepted
  • 2. Nottingham Trent University, accepted
  • 3. University of Dundee, accepted
  • 4. University college of London—rejected
  • 5. Kings college rejected
  • 6. university of Manchester, rejected
  • 7. University of Durham—rejected
  • The colleges to which I got rejected were looking for more academic style as well as my ability to evaluate for the questions I was given to answer.
  • I absolutely loved the amount of clubs and societies this university has. Including the course I wanted to pursue. This university also offers PhDs for students looking for research. All I had to do was submit my final year marksheet from UG and have more than a 2:1 grade, which I did. And clear IELTS with 6.5 in all the categories of the test. Overall, I have enjoyed my classes as well as the surrounding areas of the campus, as they have a lot of tours that take students exploring local areas. Some challenges I have experienced are primarily interacting with classmates, as they are from different backgrounds and cultures and have accents that make it a little hard to understand English but I have enjoyed talking to them about their countries.
  • I chose the September 2024 intake as I didn’t want to wait until January, which would have been during peak winter. It took about 4 weeks for my acceptance, though the timeline varies based on when you apply. The deadline for offer letter acceptance differs from college to college, so it’s essential to check specific dates while planning your application process.

Faculty

8

  • On average, there are about 30-40 students in my program, with only three Indian students, including me. The student-to-teacher ratio is approximately 1:10, which ensures quality education and meaningful interactions.
  • The diversity doesn’t compromise the learning experience, and the course content remains highly relevant to the field. Mostly teaching is done through offline means, however recorded videos are uploaded after class for revision

Campus Life

8

  • I'm not entirely sure of how many campuses. But it would be maybe 4. The facilities are libraries, medical centres, and gym facilities; it depends on the department laboratories. My university has a lot of everyday events as well as more than 200 clubs for everyone to participate in. The clubs are of variety; it ranges from academics to sports to voluntary activities to dances to singing, which further have like 50-60 societies.

Part Time Jobs

  • On-campus jobs like student ambassador or barista are common, offering £11–£12/hour. A student visa allows 20 hours of work per week. Despite opportunities, competition makes finding jobs challenging. Students often seek roles on-campus or in restaurants, as these provide flexible schedules that align well with academic commitments.about the TA jobs is not entirely sure of how much they make.

Placement

  • I'm really not sure about this. Depending on the department it will vary.At the University of Leeds, full-time job opportunities vary by department, with graduates often securing roles via campus recruitment, internships, networking, or online portals. Many courses report 70–90% employment within 6 months, with average salaries of £25,000–£40,000 annually. Graduates join major companies like Deloitte, PwC, and Unilever in diverse roles depending on their field.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • My university has Unipol housing, which I got to know when I emailed the college regarding accommodation. My monthly rent is around £560, which includes electric, water, a kitchen bathroom, and access to the gym during a particular time for her day. It wasn't challenging to find accommodation but my parents and I had a long discussion about which one to choose. My accommodation is like a 15-minute walk to college and 5 minutes from the bus.

Exams

  • My university required IELTS, LOR, final marksheets, a statement of purpose, a CV/resume, a medium of instruction certificate, and 10th and 12th marksheets. They also considered certificates for extracurricular activities. Fortunately, there were no interviews involved in the application process, making it straightforward to focus on documentation.

Fees

  • Total fees are £31000, which is semester-wise. Hostel fees depend on the area and the accommodation chosen by the students. And monthly expenses are about £80-£100.
  • The charges for the hostel depend on the payment plans installed and chosen by the students. Such as full upfront payment or monthly or quarterly. There are no application fees for the hostel; however, they do have a deposit of £200.

Scholarship

  • I have received a Faculty of Medicine and Health international excellence scholarship worth £7750. There are various financial aids that are available; however, I'm not well aware of them.
  • I believe more than half students receive scholarships depending on criteria such as whether they have attended the university before. Students receive aid depending on which countries they belong to.
