What Students Say
Likes
- 1. Library and study space services
- 2. Support from designated departments
- 3. Student Union
Dislikes
- 1. Teaching roadmap
- 2. Quality of education in regard to timely elaboration
- 3. Limited campus opportunities
Course Curriculum
- It was a mix of both, but kind of difficult and old-fashioned, boring content, and also the staff was not so good at making students understand.
Services were good, but the content and curriculum were not, it is so vast and needed so much time but all those many modules were making so much coursework at a time and that too consistently.
Admission Experience
- I have applied to nearly four universities, which were
1. UCLAN (Shortlisted and received an offer),
2. Salford (Shortlisted and received an offer),
3. Kingston (shortlisted and received an offer), and
4. Leicester university
5. I haven't received a rejection from any of them, as they all had their own way of processing applications in their respective timely manner depending upon how busy they were at that time. - The crucial reason I have chosen the University of Leicester over other universities is the processing time of application, I have witnessed the fast processing time of all application statuses and making us aware of the time
- The admission process was also hassle-free, as there were steps like providing an educational background in brief and work experience, followed by all certificates till the last higher qualification, a conditional offer seeking fee confirmation, and the Duolingo test.
- Duolingo for English test and above 60% aggregate all over education
- There were no notable challenges other than waiting in all stages of application process; comparatively, it is less than other universities
Class Schedule
- In a day, 3 or 4 classes, the timing is from 10 AM till 3 PM, sometimes from 9 AM as well. The average number of students is 80 to 100
90 to 95% of students are Indians, and only 5% are of other ethnicities
Faculty
- Faculty to student ratio/ FSR is like 1 professor and two assistant professors for like 60 to 70 students, The quality of education was not too much as people usually expect from India, because of the curriculum lot has affected. The teaching methodology is poor except for the UI/UX faculty because she was the only one who taught in a transparent timely manner with a lot of elaborations, all other module teachings were not at all great, partially it might be helpful for getting a job but it is not directly helpful, as a lot of students find difficulty finding internships because of lacking awareness, some of the faculty posts regularly about jobs and some of them never do posts related to jobs. I admire one and only module faculty member which is the UI/UX/ID module, The module convener was so good, calm, and transparent at teaching, her teaching methodology and pace stood her out among all, and because of that, the coursework happened in very much transparent and realistic way, unlike other module works.
Campus Life
- The main campus is adjacent to Victoria Park, followed by the Fielding Johnson Building, Astley Clarke Building, Engineering Building, Attenborough Tower, Percy Gee Building, and David Wilson Library. Facilities like a library, sports court, study spaces, group study rooms etc are available.
- On campus there is O2 Academy which is a music venue, so many events take place in it occasionally, and also so many cultural festivities go on accordingly. There is so much service available for extracurricular activities many of them supported by the student union, and they conduct and handle cultural events, students/ community organizations, some of them are paid and some are not.
Part Time Jobs
- Very less number of students secure TA, RA or DA positions because very less number of peeps go for those, the pay range for these roles are above £35000 PA, there are other temporary jobs in campus, students can apply to them using unitemp or any other website, these are pretty cool and students can earn worth money rather than working outside of your stream in any off-licence shop as many of our indian students, usual wages are also good if you work for any of these temporary core roles shown in university portals, if you work in any shop outside then you get like half of what you get in university for instance in the uni you get £12 to 14£ ph, outside you get less, When I was working it was only 20hr a week allowed for a student to work. It is moderate to secure if we keep on trying from beginning, if we maintain that flow we get for sure at any time.
- Most of our indian students work outside campuses, in shops, bakeries, retail shops, they earn the minimum wage set by government and also most of our indian students work more than that illegally which means they get Paid in cash for those extra hours and that too very less amount of money which is not even worth and also it is not recommended as it might affect students PSW after graduation, it is so much difficult to secure part-time jobs on and off campus unless you have mutuals there and they refer you early.
Placement
- 35% of batch secures employment within 6 months of completing the course as whoever have prior experience will have high chance of getting placed, and one should start applying to jobs and internships from the beginning of the course. Average salary range is above £40000 to £50000 PA. There were no campus recruitments, only fairs happens that too for showcasing company standards and gathering students data if required, we can apply using online portals, careers, LinkedIn etc. My friend got placed in an English company which makes operating system for advertising boards, he got this job after 2 to 3 attempts as he already had prior experience in this field. Some of the major companies which hire graduates after program are Next, Halifax, Santander etc.
Accommodation
-
There are so many options to book accommodation, using online private portals, university portals, and agencies. I haven't booked any accommodation as I did reside at my friend's flat. The monthly rent was about £450 to £600, and basic amenities and facilities like fob access, security, and usual services will be available anywhere, especially in accommodation.
The main challenge we encounter while finding accommodation is the queue it will have, especially for university accommodation, people start pre-booking 5 to 6 months prior to their intake and that is how it works, and for people who have no problem with accommodation budget they can easily book but most of the people miss this due to lack of information, if we secure university accommodation it is the best thing I would say, I regret not taking university accommodation.
My accommodation was so far from the university which is not recommended, as I used to stay 50 miles away which is not even allowed by the university and I did not know that, later on moved close to university then I was just 3mi away from uni, most of the Indians stay in city center of Leicester
Exams
- Duolingo/ TOEFL/ PTE are required, basically, any English test if your 12th English marks are less than 75%
All semester memos, CMM, OD, PCM, SOP, LOR, CV, 10th Memo, 12th Memo, Identity Proof, and Work documents like offer letter/relieving letter. - When I did the process for myself there was no university interview which is now mostly there as far as I know apparently also importantly there was no cas letter separated issued, I didn't have one but once onboarded they provided cas details and registration credentials to view them.
Fees
- £16,800 is the entire tuition fee, there were a few additional events and those were optional but even for the graduation ceremony, they charged for cap, gown, and hood.
- Fees were semester-wise and there were no EMIs allowed strictly.
- Monthly expenses were about £1400 - £500/600 Rent, £300 Travel and £400 Food
- If we wanna the party to go out then we need an additional £300
Scholarship
-
1. Yes, I've received scholarship for my course. Scholarship was kind of Merit Scholarship as my aggregate for graduation was above 65%, the whole fee was about £21,500 but after it was £16,800.
2. Award amount was £4700.
3.Yeah most of people have one or other scholarship for sure but 20% people don't know and don't apply so they paid full fee because they missed one small information mostly people came from Punjab consultancies in Punjab state but from south most of the people utilised it.
4. 70% receive and typical award amount will be around £4000 to £6000
