What Students Say
Likes
- University is really good in Medical/clinical Research
- Leicester is really rich in Indian community so everything is easily available here
- Leicester is having modern Infrastructure and building comparative to Oxford and Cambridge
Dislikes
- The University gives a feel like they are doing business, they charge separately to students whether its GYM fees, Sports fees, memberships etc.
- Most of the Masters students are not happy with courses they study- students are paying expensive fees and modules are not meeting their expectations, may be reason is different teaching practices
Course Curriculum
- I am aware that there is enough exposure the university is providing for research for master's and undergraduate students. If someone is interested specifically in clinical/biomedical or biological research, then plenty of opportunities are available.
Admission Experience
- I was looking for research opportunities in human healthcare and then suddenly I found a Future 100 PhD studentship at the Institute of Precision Health & School of Engineering, University of Leicester.
- So I will say, I choose project rather than University. In terms of my experience, I am happy when it comes to research but as a University I think it was not good because it gave me a feeling like they are running it like a business, not as a university. They are charging you for each and every small thing.
- Admission requirements vary between departments and courses. I was good in Mathematics and Science but not in English so I attempted IELTS 3 times in 3 months and was then able to score 6.
- More specific details can be found here: https://le.ac.uk/study/research-degrees/entry-reqs/eng-lang-reqs/ielts-65
Faculty
- Based on what I heard except Computer science faculty and staff, it is good.
Campus Life
- I did my Master from an IIT so when I arrived here, it met my expectations with infrastructure and Library (Library is top-notch here). Also research facilities are good in clinical/biological research but the rest are just ok.
- For clubs, events and extracurricular activities, as well as the sports facilities, you won't find the University of Leicester in a good position.
Part Time Jobs
- Very few positions with Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA)
Placement
- I see a lot of students struggling to get full-time jobs; they say most jobs are looking for experienced people, but they don't have experience to offer.
Accommodation
- I am living in University accommodation. Prices are varying based on which type of accommodation we are opting for, but I am paying £420 Monthly.
Exams
- I think they accept all types of English scores from IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT, GRE, PTE, SAT including your 12th marks as well.
- Not specifically aware of these types of requirements because my admission was based on Interview conducted by university but I think SOP, CV, References and your transcripts will be the main docs.
Fees
- As a International student my fees are £21K annually but all covered with my Future 100 studentship.
