What Students Say
Likes
- The University campus is very attractive and makes a very study-friendly environment.
- The module structure and information provided by the University was very informative. However the teaching style was extremely different from India.
- I used to like the weekly seminars of each Module which were more practical based however not entirely always related to theory.
Dislikes
- I did not like the teaching style of teachers as during lectures 90% of the time they only used to read out the slides instead of explaining.
- I did not like the practical aspect of course as they did not help with placements at all or invited more companies for the same.
- I did not like the exam pattern as well, there was only 1 assignment submission required for each module which used to put a lot of pressure on grades and there was no other chance for grades to be improved which also made you lose interest while studying the module.
Required Exams for Admission
I chose this university as the university prospectus was very appealing and the University Overall grading was extremely positive to apply for the course. The financial stability and a change of lifestyle also drove me to accept the offer letter. Due to some personal problems in my life, I was looking for a complete change of plans in my life and the University of Leeds seemed like one of the best options at that moment. The modules were also to the point according to my field of study. However, my experience overall here was not as good as I expected, better teaching at such a prestigious university but 80% of the course was based on self-study as professors used to read out the slides they had prepared earlier. The practical approach was very limited, it used to be covered only once a week or once in two weeks for all the modules. The fees were also double the actual University fees for British citizens. Due to the recession my timings for the course did not turn out too well as there are very few jobs for graduates in this role, however, only experienced people get the opportunity. So eventually I would rate my overall experience as mediocre in terms of what I expected it to be before shifting continents.
Course Curriculum
The course modules were extremely relevant according to today’s time and the syllabus was to the point. However no industrial experience was given during the course or any practical exposure was provided, it was more research-based and theoretical. The only research experience I got was from my dissertation.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio was 1:30. Each batch used to get a mentor as well in case we faced any particular problems during the course. The professors were extremely approachable but there were times when as an international student it was difficult to explain them your situation or problems. The teachers were extremely educated and professional. Honestly, it also depends upon which professor you get as a guide because some professors went by the book and could only help to a certain limit but some were extremely helpful to make the campus life more comforting, so it depends upon your luck as well.
Campus Life
The campus life was extremely happening and joyful. There were constant events that used to take place to keep students active. There were student clubs and bars as well inside the campus. The libraries were extremely useful and resourceful which were included with our ID to access anytime free of costs. The WiFi was also accessible to all of our devices using our student IDs.
Placement
The post-study placement was extremely bad for my course in my university as only 1-2 companies came for promotion and no other companies came to the campus. Officially University does not provide any placements for my course after graduating. The Job Market currently is very low which is making it very difficult to get a good job.
Accommodation
I went for the cheapest accommodation that was available when I moved which was £460 per month including bills however the average accommodation cost per month is £600 at least. In Leeds, there are multiple student accommodations as it’s a student hub. The accommodations are usually shared where you get a private room + bathroom and a shared common space + kitchen with 5-6 other students. There are studio options available as well but they are slightly expensive costing up to £1200 per month. All these expenses do not include laundry or groceries. But accommodation does provide more common spaces and sports leisure centres. Their quality depends upon the type of accommodation you go for. The accommodations also ask for UK guarantors before finalising your documents.
Exams
- The IELTS score requirement was 7 and my score was 7.5. The minimum grade in my Bachelor's was 60% and I did a dual degree from India where I scored a CGPA of 7.8. - CBSE (10th) - 6.6 CGPA, CBSE (12th) - 73% Amity University - BA+ MA - Clinical Psychology (dual degree) - 7.8 CGPA, University of Leeds - 2:2 (58%) - Requirements: Yes, I had to submit 2 LoRs for my admission to the University which I got from one of my previous professors from Amity University and one from a professor from one of the internships I did during my course. I also had to submit a SoP which I made as personal as possible and wrote about my life experiences and lessons I learned from it. I also wrote about my desires and expectations from the course and why I am intern this field of study. I got my SoP reviewed by my professor before submitting it for the application. There were no interviews or application fees for this course at the University of Leeds.
Fees
The program fee for international students was £24000 which was paid in two terms making it £12000 for each term I.e. 6 months. However this year they have increased the tuition fees to £26000 or £28000 per annum.
