Likes
- Quality of education: The coursework is very detailed and is up to date to the current industry trends.
- Industry projects: The projects in the course work are linked with actual global companies like Volvo, Polestar, Powercell etc.
- Friendly Teachers : Almost all the teachers in the university are very friendly and encourage students to ask doubts and spark discussions
Dislikes
- The university does not have enough sports facilities. They only have a single indoor hall for pretty much everything.
- The cost of living in the Gothenburg city is relatively high when compared to other European cities. Monthly expense can go up to 10,000 SEK for student living in a 20 m2 apartment with attached bathroom and shared kitchen. Food in restaurants is also very expensive, most of the students actually cook everyday to keep expenses in control.
- Part Time jobs mostly need Swedish language. Students not knowing the language end up doing part time jobs of food delivery agents which is okay in summers but can be very challenging in the harsh Swedish winters.
Campus Life
- College has 2 campuses. that are far from each other but both in Gothenburg. On both the campuses we have library, research facilities, Johnnberg campus is for Automobile, Mechanical, Electrical and Physics. Lindholmn campus is for Computer science and Information Technology. Most of the clubs and pubs are in the Johnnberg campus, almost all departments have their own research labs, clubs and pubs for partying.
- Chalmers have a yearly rally throughout the city, where they make interesting vehicles , statues, bands, slogans etc. on major events that particular year.
Fees
- Semester wise: 70K SEK / semester. There are 2 semesters per year. Each semester has 2 sections of 3 months each. Monthly Expense for a student living in 20 m2 apartment having attached bathroom and shared kitchen will be around 10,000 SEK. Rent will be about 7000 SEK for 20 m2 apartment, mostly will be including the internet and water.
- It is advisable to take only student housing and not induvial landlord as the prices will and services will be on the higher side and students mostly face inconvenience in landlord housing. Food in restaurant is very costly, one time meal can cost as high as 120 SEK and beyond which makes around 6000SEK monthly on food. Student must try to prepare the food in his/her kitchen most of the time to save cost.

- High quality education - It offered a strong, research-oriented curriculum for my program. It was well-structured that balanced theory with hands-on applications,.
- International Environment - It has a diverse student community which made the experience enriching. Working with peers from different backgrounds broadened my perspectives, improved teamwork, communication, and other factors.
- Strong Focus on Innovation & Practical Problem-Solving - Courses emphasized solving real-world problems.
Dislikes
- Heavy Workload - Some study period were intensive, making work-life balance challenging.
- High Competition for Thesis Opportunities - Because the world is behind AI, there was a lot of competition from all the programs trying to obtain a thesis opportunity in AI domain. Since companies in Sweden value the domain knowledge, it became difficult for core AI and data sciences students like myself to find best opportunities.
- Limited Course Availability - During a few study periods, there were limited space available to have a efficient study plan
Campus Life
- It is vibrant, friendly, and highly international. Chalmers has two main campuses: Johanneberg and Lindholme. Both are well equipped with modern classrooms, collaborative study areas, computer labs, and excellent research facilities. The libraries are spacious, well-resourced, and offer dedicated silent zones, group study rooms, and access to a rich collection of digital resources.
- There are several student clubs and committees under the Chalmers Student Union, covering everything from tech, robotics, entrepreneurship, and sustainability to sports, music, and cultural activities. Regular events, workshops, hackathons, and industry talks make the campus dynamic and engaging.
Fees
- 320000 SEK for 2 years of masters

Campus Life
- The university has 2 campuses. Johannaberg and Lindholmen Campus. All my courses were on the main campus, which was in Johannesburg. The campus had a sports hall, Library, Swimming pool, Sauna and many other clubs to enrol in and have fun.
- Oktoberfest, couple of Disco clubs are located on campus and some other Semester star and end parties occur every semester
Fees
- The fees were 70,000 SEK per semester, so the 2-year programme had 4 semesters and 8 study periods and during each study period we could study 2 courses. We had to pay every 6 months. The housing was around 4000 SEK a month and we had to pay 10 months a year. living expenses per month were around 1500 / 2000 SEK including everything.
- The transportation pass for students costs around 500/600SEK a month. The groceries bill ran me up about 250 - 300 SEK a week.

Likes
- Strong focus on equality and respect, both academically and socially.
- Work-life balance is highly valued, which creates a healthier lifestyle.
- Individuals are punctual and well-organized, so collaborations are seamless.
Dislikes
- Social interactions can feel reserved at first, making it harder to build connections quickly.
- Cold and dark winters can be mentally challenging, especially for newcomers.
- There is less small talk, which can seem strange in everyday interactions.
Campus Life
- Chalmers University of Gothenburg, Sweden, has two campuses: Johanneberg (engineering, architecture, management) and Lindholmen (IT, shipping, innovation). Facilities include libraries, labs, sports, and health services. Students enjoy clubs, societies, sports, cultural events, and festivals like Cortège, a major annual parade. They have a great campus and maintenance.
Fees
- I don't have to pay any fee. when i got selected i had secured a salary. Which is around 35000 SEK and is taxable, which is 22% and in-hand salary is 28000 SEK. The monthly expense is rent and food or personal expenses only. which is not more than 7000-8000 SEK. You can save a big amount. Average rent is 4500-5000 SEK for a studio apartment and if the apartment is far, then a monthly transportation ticket is 659 SEK but is valid everywhere.
- But for sure this saving and all might be tough in a master's student scenario.

Overview
I chose Chalmers University because of my advisor. For a Ph.D., more than the university an alignment with your advisor is necessary and I felt a great connection with my prospective advisor, the university did not have a language barrier for most courses and that helped me with choosing it. Apart from my advisor, my prospective research group was also very strong.
