I chose Chalmers University because of my advisor. For a Ph.D., more than the university an alignment with your advisor is necessary and I felt a great connection with my prospective advisor, the university did not have a language barrier for most courses and that helped me with choosing it. Apart from my advisor, my prospective research group was also very strong.

Course Curriculum

9

I think the course curriculum is very nice. The courses offer content that is up to date with the industry requirements. The assignments and projects are very relevant and engaging. The assignments complement the theory aspect of the course very well, in general. The study period based curriculum forces completing courses within 2 months. I feel this is better than semester systems as 2 months of focus on 2 courses serves better than 5 months of drag over 4 courses together.

Faculty

10

I don't have an idea about the ratio. Faculty and staff are experts in their domain, friendly, approachable, and very helpful in general. I have experienced teaching from the following and it has been great: Prof. Lennart Svensson Prof. Torsten Sattler Prof. Fredrik Kahl

Placement

8

I have heard mostly good about students that did well in their studies and gained the required skills to match industry requirements. Some master's students do find it tough to get a master's thesis but that's because of the competition. Many global companies such as Ericsson, Volvo, Spotify, and IKEA have their offices in Gothenburg and therefore there are nice opportunities.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

One needs to rent private/shared accommodation using student accommodation agencies in the city of Gothenburg. SGS/Chalmers Studentbostader are the agencies. Costs about SEK 5k /month.

Exams

Vacancies for PhD positions are generally listed on the vacancy page of the university. You need to submit your academic scores for TOEFL. GRE is not compulsory. However, there are credit requirements (a Master's degree is required).

Events

It's really not a huge part of doctoral student life. However. the sports facilities are good. Every dept. has a gym. There are no outdoor grounds in the university however, outdoor sports in Sweden are only for a couple of months. Research facilities are also great I think.

Fees

Salaried position. No tuition fee. Salary 30k SEK / month. 1 SEK = INR 8.5

Scholarship

Ph.D. students have a salaried position at a university in Sweden. I get paid 30k SEK / month.
