Dislikes
- Heavy Workload - Some study period were intensive, making work-life balance challenging.
- High Competition for Thesis Opportunities - Because the world is behind AI, there was a lot of competition from all the programs trying to obtain a thesis opportunity in AI domain. Since companies in Sweden value the domain knowledge, it became difficult for core AI and data sciences students like myself to find best opportunities.
- Limited Course Availability - During a few study periods, there were limited space available to have a efficient study plan
Course Curriculum
- Its very up-to-date, especially for Data Science and AI. It includes topics such as machine learning, deep learning, cloud computing, large-scale data processing aligning with the current business/industry needs. There are opportunities to collaborate on research or thesis projects from industry.
- Class schedules were pretty much balanced - around 2-3 classes per day. And atleast a day free during the week depending on the courses. Average size of the class is around 35-45 students.
Admission Experience
- I chose Chalmers for its close collaboration with industry and the curriculum matched my goals in applied machine learning. Having been awarded as the Volvo Group Scholar played a major factor in choosing the university. The overall experience was nice. It would have been great if I came after the covid period. I was here in the peak covid period and everything was online. But yet, I was able to meet people and receive the exposure required.
- IELTS - Minimum 6-6.5
- And program level requirements such as the eligibility in credits, and some prerequisite courses.
Faculty
- Since I was in COVID time period, it was pretty difficult. Otherwise from what I heard, they are actually friendly and approachable.
Campus Life
- It is vibrant, friendly, and highly international. Chalmers has two main campuses: Johanneberg and Lindholme. Both are well equipped with modern classrooms, collaborative study areas, computer labs, and excellent research facilities. The libraries are spacious, well-resourced, and offer dedicated silent zones, group study rooms, and access to a rich collection of digital resources.
- There are several student clubs and committees under the Chalmers Student Union, covering everything from tech, robotics, entrepreneurship, and sustainability to sports, music, and cultural activities. Regular events, workshops, hackathons, and industry talks make the campus dynamic and engaging.
Part Time Jobs
- Part-time opportunities for students at Chalmers are available both on campus and off campus, although on-campus roles tend to be limited. Students commonly work in restaurants, delivery services, retail shops, and administrative roles outside the university.
- On campus, opportunities include Teaching Assistant (TA) roles, Research Assistant (RA) positions, but these are very competitive. Hourly earnings for part-time jobs typically range between 120 -150 SEK per hour for general roles like cafés and delivery services, while university positions such as TA/RA roles can pay higher, usually around 150-180 SEK per hour.
Placement
- Students from the Data Science & AI program at Chalmers generally have good job prospects, especially in Sweden’s strong tech and engineering sectors. Many students secure roles in areas such as data science, machine learning engineering, data engineering, AI research, software development, and cloud engineering. Companies like Volvo Group, Ericsson, SKF, Zenseact, AstraZeneca, and several others actively hire from the program.
- The average salary range for new graduates usually falls between 35,000 SEK per month.
- Students find jobs through multiple channels such as - Internships or thesis projects that convert into full-time roles, networking through Chalmers' strong industry partnerships, Career fairs and company events hosted by the university, Online job portals such as LinkedIn and Glassdoor, referrals from professors, alumni, and industry contacts.
Accommodation
- Chalmers University has ties with student housing companies like SGS. So, for international students, it makes it easier to fins accommodations.
- Otherwise, there is also a possiblity to find through facebook and apps like Blocket. The monthly rent ranges between 4000-6000 SEK per month.
Exams

- A Statement of Purpose and CV is required along with educational documents. LORs are not mandatory, but good to have.
