Likes
- The faculties willing to go out of the way, and try to include industrial and business examples to link what we study in class with the outside world.
- The positioning of the college gives it a strategic advantage. It's position right next to Miserapatti, Mussoorie and great Dehradun Cafe culture exploration gives it an advantage for students to seek a bit extra outside the college.
- The freedom to work on your own, develop a skillset and deliver. You get ample space if utilised well. Making the most of it is important.
Dislikes
- Any student always seeks for higher placements. That's a never ending cycle. But college should keep pushing it as high as it can get from previous years. Which they already are doing.
- There can be improvements in third space learning spots. College can utilise the beauty of it's Kandoli campus and provide for more open space reading spots. Students would like that a lot.
Course Curriculum Overview
Absolutely well. High relevance and comprehensiveness. My course is an MBA in Strategy and Consulting in collaboraiton with KPMG. They bring practical on-field industry requirements. They know the demand and the supply. They help us fill the gap between by training us well.
Placement Experience
There are placement opportunities at the campus. The Career Service Office puts in lots of efforts to get us internships and placements. They ensure they introduce the skills in us right from Day 1. They are up to date and they have a strealined operation already in place. But their job is to facilitate. Placement is one thing which is always subjective. So it depends on the skillset and delivery of the students. But college is doing their part well.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees structure is simple - 4.7L, 5.06L alternately. The 5L fees is because it includes charges for your industrial visit. Your complete travelling, boarding, lodging, food, everything is considered. There are scholarships available. If you are an alumni of the college, you get scholarship. There are also scholarships based on merit and performance in these entrance exams which are considered.
Campus Life
Campus life is amazing, I like the culture, the musical jam nights randomly organised by students. It gives a refreshing vibe to us. The clubs like GEMS, RRR or SEE gives us the extra knack to push ourselves and discover new areas to improve and expand into. Clubs and Infrastructure is amazing.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel Facility is recommended for first years, but then a rental accomodation would be better in subsequent years. Hostel experience is extremely important but I believe living outside and getting to cook, clean and study parallely is a skill to learn. To improve oneself, both experiences are extremely important. Though hostel has restrictions post 8pm. You cannot enter inside the campus, and in-campu you can enjoy till 10:30pm. After that you need to enter your respective buildings. But you can enjoy inside then. I stayed in an AC room and personally, wardens were very accomodating to me since I never gave them an opportunity. They are strict, but if you are at your best behaviour, they won't disturb you. They are supportive of students but they also need to follow college policies.
Admission
Strategic positioning gives a good learning environment. Quality of leadership is what shows the future trajectory of the organisation. Prof. Rahul Nainwal, Director, School of Business is one personality who is effectively reviewing and keeping the courses up to industry standards. I don't see how the college is doing today. I predicted what this college would be when I graduate. And this stands out from all the other options I had at the moment.
Faculty
The faculties are absolutely amazing. That's one thing which stands out UPES genuinely. They go out of the way, teach practically, not just theoretically. A person who wants to learn, can learn and gain amazing insights. The experience they hold, the case studies they follow and the delivery is amazing. This is highly recommended!
Interview Experience
I did not have any GD preparations, since I believed I was good at it, I just brushed and updated my current affairs and understood and learned more about college and practiced for my interview. Written tests normally went hand in hand with my CAT preparation since I was applying for my MBA at the college.
Night Life
Nightlife outside campus is not much. There are no happening spots outside the campus in night since it is a hilly area, there are safety hazards. But to enjoy inside campus is amazing. You can enjoy and play multiple sports or sit in recreational areas or have a quick gym workout to keep yourself up to health. You also have a great cafe culture in Dehradun city which is worth exploring.
