Course Curriculum Overview
The course was quite comprehensive and relevant. They covered all the fields of life sciences in depth- molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology (RDT), microbiology, biostatistics, instrumentation, and immunology, among others. The combination of both foundational and applied topics was the whole reason I chose the course at SVSU. In terms of preparationfor the real world applications, the curriculum does a great job in building clarity and founding strong concepts. For students aiming to prepare for GATE, NET, and higher research projects to delve into, the syllabus provides a strong foundation. Regarding improvements, the lab work could be more one-on-one rather than a bulk implementation, and more hands-on experience needs to be added to the course in comparison to the theoretical knowledge. Speaking of the examination pattern, it works in semesters, with the first one occurring in December, then around April, and the last one around June-July. Other than that, there are internal tests held bimonthly and project submissions before the examination session.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opprtunities are various for biotechnology students. The university doesn't gurantee any such offer, however, the teachers do recommend various opportunities outside the campus. Students can try some within the campus activities which could be helpful in understanding various ifs and buts of the field.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fee structure is moderate at the college compared to other universities in North India. The average tuition fee is around 60,000 per year, depending on the academic session and university revision policy. Since the course duration is 2 years for Masters of Biotechnology, the course fee ranges to around 1.9 lac in total, excluding hostel fee, examination fee, and other miscellaneous fees. charges. Additionally, there are various scholarships for SC/ST/OBC and female students applicable as per the govt. norms. Special concessions are also available for students of special categories such as defence, university staff, etc.
Campus Life
The campus life was vibrant and social. There were various events organized on the campus. From seminars to cultural events, they held it all. Also, there were exhibitions for the science department, and the same used to be the case for the other departments too. All these used to add so much weightage to the knowledge that still helps me in various sectors of life. There are central libraries, which was a spot that helped in creating better notes and indulge into so depth research that wa unexpainable. Classrooms were good and spacious. While studying, it used to be a great experience as we interacted with the teachers at all levels of knowledge. Debates, speech sessions, annual programs were also held, along with all these.
Admission
I chose this university because it's affordable, accessible, and has a stable academic environment. I did explore other options; however, the fee structure, the environment, lab data were all very grounded and great here.
Faculty
My experience with Subharti University has been largely positive. Professors looking after each student personally was something we've experienced greatly. The student-to-faculty ratio was 1:20 to 1:30. The attitude with which professors approached students was positive and supportive. With query-solving ideation, they were great with problem-solving as well. In terms of qualification, most teachers had a Ph.D. or masters degree. I personally appreciated teachers who implemented theory & practical in equal balance. Some teachers were more driven towards theory, some were towards practical implementation, all showing a wide range of ways to learn and understand the concepts.
Night Life
The night life at the campus was calm and pelasant. A few canteens used to be open to have a sip of tea/coffee and light snacks. Since the campus in on the outskirts, it used to be a peaceful environment as well. The doors used to be closed for the hostel space at a scheduled time because of the safety reasons and guards were there at the doorstep making it safer for the students within the campus as well as the ones visiting the campus from outside. There are various cafes outside as well, which serve descent food and has amazing vibes. The market place is a bit far, however, but basic things could be found in the campus too.
