What Students Say
Likes
- I liked the teachers and staff of the college. They made me feel very welcomed and like a family. The teachers were very insightful and solved all my problems with patience and ease
- I like that my college has many different sports for students to enjoy like basketball, football, badminton and now even pickleball!
- I like that the food in the canteen is very affordable and cheap even for lower or worse off families...
Dislikes
- The campus could feel too small sometimes with not much activites or places to hangout
- The teachers take education and course curriculum very seriously and thus could end up dumping a lot of work on students as a result all at once
- The campus doesn't have a lot to offer when it comes to the mental health or therapeutic management
Course Curriculum Overview
So in my case, I had taken AI and Data science as I had a passion for numbers and analytics from early on. This is just my second semester, so we haven't really gone into detail about the tech aspects too much as the first year is just focused on providing us with real life skills and providing us basic knowledge of all aspects like engineering drawing, workshop processes like casting, welding and even environmental studies and personality development. The faculties provide us notes after each lecture and explain everything with a lot of precision and ease. Somewhere it could be improved is that sometimes the flow of the lectures becomes monotonous and boring, so teacher should conduct quizzes and engaging exercises to keep the students awake.... Since I am a well off academic student, I don't really have too much difficulty grasping the concepts taught and I also help my colleagues and classmates with the same....
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunies are provided to students of various courses after 3-4 semesters.....The companies and roles offered could vary based on the offer and academic capabilities of the person in question.....The projects carried out are fairly large scale providing a lot of experience for upcoming placement and job opportunities to the students....it also serves as a good practice and workplace ethics learning experience.
Placement Experience
Since I am in second semester, I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge when it comes to placements or internships in general. But from what I've heard, we do get fairly big to moderate level companies visiting our college for placements every semester. These include TCS, amazon, Infosys, Deloitte and many more. Percentage of students getting placed is approximately 90 percent. In my case, I plan on pursuing higher education in Germany for my master's after completing my bachelor's from here....
Fees and Financial Aid
At my college, fees could be one limiting factor for low to low-middle class families. For most UG courses like BBA, BCA, AND BJMC, the tuition and academic fees is around Rs. 96,000 in first yr then increments to Rs. 5,000 to 8,000 each yr based on the course. The total course fees comes out to be approximately 3 lakh to 3.5 lakh in total. Students also pay a one-time registration fees and a minor security deposit. Transport is optional. (Rs. 5,000 per month) Hostel charges are seperate. The fees includes tuition, development, lab, library and exam charges. Fees usually increases slightly every year as I mentioned above so students shouldn't expect the same amount throughout the course. JIMS offers merit-based fee waivers. There are also merit-cum-need scholarships and govt. schemes for SC/ST/EWS students as well. In short total costs depend on the type of course, category and your own academic strengths and weaknesses.
Campus Life
My overall campus life here has been an absolute blast.....the students even the seniors here have been very supportive and nice. There hasnt been any major or even minor incidents regarding bullying or ragging or atleast I haven't heard of them. There have also been a lot of fests even though I have only been in the college for about 3 months. The classrooms are well ventilated and provided with acs, with smart boards and whiteboards for maximum teaching and learning experience. There are also clubs like dance club, music club, drama club, tech club, and even hackathon groups. The books in the library are very vast and detailed with information about all courses which can be issued easily using library card provided to the students based on their id card credentials
Admission
I did apply to other colleges like galgotias, ymca, and even got selected to NIT Hamirpur for biotech but chose this college instead. This was because of accesiblity....since I'm from Haryana, this college is more accessible as compared to other colleges i got selected and applied for. Also, since I was strongly passionate about pursuing data science, I chose this college. The admission process is fairly lengthy and detailed but mostly simple throughout. We had to carry a lot of personal documents but the faculty and staff members helped in making the process smoother. I got selected on the basis of my JEE percentile and rank....the cutoffs for the college are also not too high, anyone who is fairly academic can get admission here. The overall admission experience was above average satisfactory
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 23:1 atleast in my case. There are 2 mentors for each section assigned for smoother flow of the class. The faculties are pretty approachable and friendly when it comes to sensitive and personal topics as well as other educational topics too. There are two mid semester exams and one semester end exams in one semester of each course. These are pretty easy if you have the basics cleared. The course curriculum is relevant to the course providing various skills that can be even helpful in real life
Night Life
Since I don't reside in the hostel, I can't really experience the nightlife of the campus...but from what I've heard from my fellow classmates who live in the hostel....the nightlife is pretty relaxed and quite. Students arents allowed to wander after a specific time around the campus. The hostel also does have various activities to do such as gyms, table tennis. A very interesting aspect of this is that the college becomes very spooky in the nighttime so it could also facilitate as a place to explore or act out horror or spooky scenarios in.
Other Applied Colleges
Galgotias University - [GU] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science)
I didn't opt for this college because the campus is very crowded and ragging is prominent.
