Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum of B.Com under Sambalpur University covers important subjects like Accounting, Business Law, Economics, Management and Taxation which are essential for future studies and careers in finance or commerce. The structure is simple to follow and helps students build a good base in theory. Semester exams are conducted on time and the difficulty level is moderate. A student who consistently studies can score well without extreme pressure. However, there is a lack of practical exposure such as industry visits, internships or real-world business case studies. Also, subjects related to modern digital business trends like data analytics, advanced Excel, and GST practicals should be included to make students more job-ready. Overall, the curriculum is relevant but needs more updates to match the current professional requirements
Fees and Financial Aid
I am pursuing B.Com (Hons.) under Sambalpur University. The total fees are quite affordable compared to private universities. My yearly fee is around ?7,500 – ?9,000 including tuition fees, college development fees, and examination fees. Apart from this, there is also a small amount charged for form fill-up, identity card and library. The fee structure is almost the same for every year and does not increase significantly. Hostel fees and transportation charges are optional and depend on the student’s requirement. Students belonging to SC/ST categories generally get concessions or government scholarships, whereas general category students can also apply for options like e-Medhabruti and merit-cum-means scholarships if they meet the required criteria. Overall the course is affordable for most students and does not create financial burden on families.
Campus Life
Campus life here is simple and peaceful. Students interact well with each other and the environment is safe. There are a few cultural events and annual functions organized every year, and students participate actively in them. However, the number of major fests or technical events is very limited compared to bigger colleges. The library has essential books and study materials for commerce, but it needs more updated journals and reference books. Classroom infrastructure is average and technology-based facilities like smart boards or proper projectors are missing in most classes. Sports options exist but are fewer, and there are not many active clubs for students. More involvement in extracurricular activities could help students improve their confidence and skills. Still, the overall experience is positive due to supportive classmates and a disciplined atmosphere.
Admission
applied to a few colleges under Sambalpur University for B.Com including some private institutes in Rourkela. I selected Rourkela College because the fee structure is affordable and the college has a decent reputation for Commerce courses. The location is also convenient for me, which saves time and makes daily travel easier. The admission process was completely merit-based through the SAMS Odisha online portal. After submitting the CAF form, the seat was allotted on the basis of my 12th percentage. The process was smooth and there were no unnecessary requirements like entrance exams or donations. Cutoff was reasonable, so admission felt fair for everyone. Compared to private colleges, Rourkela College offers more value for the money. The faculty is experienced and the academic environment is disciplined. Facilities may not be very modern, but the teaching quality and learning atmosphere are strong enough to help students build a good foundation for future career or higher studies. Overall, choosing this college was a practical and smart decision for me and my family.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio is manageable, and most teachers are approachable whenever students need help. Faculty members have good subject knowledge and try to make concepts understandable with practical examples. Some teachers are very supportive and guide well during exams and assignments. However, a few faculties could improve their teaching methods to make classes more engaging. The course structure under Sambalpur University is quite relevant for commerce students, covering core subjects like Accounting, Management, Finance and Taxation. Exams are held semester-wise and the marking system is fair. If a student studies regularly, passing exams is not very difficult, but high scoring requires strong preparation. Overall, the curriculum is helpful for developing basic knowledge for future career and higher studies.
Night Life
There is not much nightlife in or around Rourkela College campus. Most areas inside the college close by evening and students generally go home after classes. There is no hostel inside the college, so late-night activities are limited. However, the surrounding locality is safe and students can visit nearby tea stalls, small cafés or markets before going home. For proper hangout spots, students usually go to places like Sector-19, Sector-5 Market, Ambagan, or Biju Patnaik Market which have some fast-food shops and casual sit-out options. Overall, nightlife is very simple and not like big city college campuses, but the environment is peaceful.
