Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum at CU is well structured and designed to balance theoretical concepts with pracctical applications, however the practicals are not well defined by the teachers and a part just in first 2 years of the course. The curriculum prepares student well for higher studies and professional careers. overall, the course curriculum is relevant and comprehensive, but adding more internships, workshops and guest lectures would make it even more impactful.
Internships Opportunities
Internships I got offered was from HP (Hewlett Packward) from Gurgaon site with a stipend of 35000 per month. However, there were limited seats and gnarly competiton among students. The project I was assinged to is managing cloud securites and its vulnerability and the outcomes were not vast or much effective but decent.
Placement Experience
The placement was quite surprising for me as I was told, its all ads but when i got in my Fourth year, i was exposed with wide ranges of companies and different fields. The students become eligible for placements as soon as they enter the 7th semester. The no. of companies visited when i was a student is more than 100 and no. of offers made was average of 7 per company. The highest package as far as i know was 22 LPA in campus and 36 LPA outside campus. However, percentage of students getting placements is low. I am planning to pursue higher studies from foreign university.
Fees and Financial Aid
the exact fees structure was as follows: it is divided into 2 parts, tution fees which was fixed of about 89000 and exam fees which was 2500 inr. But if you took the cucet test and got scholorship, your tution fees was deducted as per the percentage you acquired in exam. I acquired 40% scholorship reducing my fees to 56000 per semester. Also, they charge you the security of 2000 inr in the beginning of the first semester. But the scholorship is to be maintained in all semesters by averaging a gpa of 7.5 in all semester combined to keep the fees as low as 56000 in my case. as soon as scholorship is revoked, the fees burden feels heavy.
Campus Life
Overall experience is decent, ofcourse the structure was well defined, but if you lack the good peer company, the experience get ruined. for me, It was quite decent as I joined the college from second year on campus, I took my first year Online which created a gap in my social lifeleading to average experience. However, the social life is great in CU. all facilities are provided and you can join ncc or nay sports of your choice.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilites are quite decent as you get everything you require to grow and enjoy properly in college. However, the meal quality was not good. There are a lot of cases where students get sick and their health get worsened which become the major reason for them to leave hostels mid demesters. HOwever the registration process is very easy and you can apply online from your home for seat booking in hostel.
Admission
I chose this college just for the sake of getting exposure from different state from my home state. Also, my state don't have many good colleges for B.Tech but the positioning and advertisement of chandigarh university was well maintained and managed to attract me to its campus as the no. of placement offers and average package was good. I applied for vellore institute of technology, IIT ,NIT and Thapar institute. Out of which, I got NIT and VIT but lack of knowledge and guidance made me miss out joining oppurtunity and in the end I got chandigarh university. The admission process in CU was easy as I gave them my jee score and cucet exam and managed 40% scholorship which made me take admission here.
Faculty
The faculty members are not friendly at all as the work burden on them is very heavy. They usually dont care about everybody in class but some who manages to pass their times in class, due to burdensome work, they dont care about the quality of work, they just want to complete it as soon as possible. The faculty to student ratio for normal classes is 70:1 but for labs classes, its 35:1. Some faculties are good as they know how to manage their time or just the starting year for them. This college is exam focused as you have to take about 4 exams in a semester of 4 months, mst1,2,3 and finals. But the exam is generally easy and the checking is to linient. The main issue occurs in internal marks, no matter how good you are or your practicals, the teachers are advised to maintain the average of 23 out of 30, so the teacher will never grade you good no matter how much you try.
Night Life
The night life for boys and girls are different. The girls hostel timing for gate closing is 7pm making it tough for them to enjoy outisde life as for boys, its 10PM. Also, for boys a lot of facilities are provided like gym, public area, outside acitvites. There are many famous spots and hangout places in hostels but usually the best hangout place is always in campus.
