Course Curriculum Overview

4

The exams are organised to test the candidate's knowledge as well as legal acumen. Considering the real world applications, some new syllabi can be added to enhance the perspectives like ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution), Cyber Security law, and others.

Internships Opportunities

4

The internships are usually given by college seniors, if contacted. There are many big law firms, or companies in various legal domains (like, corporate, civil, medical, technological, constitutional, etc.) wherever the students find their interests in. The internships can be short-term (between 1-2 months) or long-term (6 months+). The semester exams are flexible with the internships, which the students can give by taking off-time from their internships.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee is one of the lowest, around 1550 per year. In addition, the examination fee is 250/—per semester, which adds up to 2000 per year. The library fee is 1000/- which is payable only at the time of admission. The hostel fee is 2000 per year, including 1500/- as the charges for food each month. Besides, there are scholarships for students who could not afford the fee, like the Swami Vivekananda merit cum means scholarship (12000/- per year), Oasis Scholarship (8300/- per year) and for OBC (13000/- per year)

Campus Life

4

There are many activities beyond the legal sphere, in terms of social clubs like debate, seminar club, writing or magazine club, cultural club & sports clubs. All clubs are formally constituted by the students and administration, and the students can get them associated in any of the clubs of their choice.

Admission

It was my only target to crack the exam CULET-UG-2020 and get myself admitted in this college. Hence, there was no other better choice for me at that time. The cutoff is difficult with about 120 students each year. So, in general, one has to rank between the top hundred students to get admission in this college.

Faculty

4

Being one of the top law colleges, it has also one of the brightest faculty members. However, it has a low ratio of permanent faculty members, and there a more in number of visiting faculty members. The level of exams are moderately tough. The questions are usually repeated but most of the time in a more complexed and nuanced manner. Students are usually able to clear the exams, however if someone gets backlogs, they can clear it by the next semesters.

Interview Experience

5

The admission is solely based on the CULET-UG entrance exam. The most expected rank to get admission in this college is between 1 and 300 for general category students and 300 and 500 for SC/ST/OBC category students. However, it can change every year depending on the intake and competition level in the exam.

Night Life

4

Being a day college, the college usually shuts by 5 pm. However, the public area of the college is usually nice and busy. The famous places to visit nearby in recess time is the Birla Mandir, Tram Cafe, Quest Mall, etc.

Other Applied Colleges

Dum Dum Motijheel College | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (English)

I eventually did not opt for this course, as I was able to crack my target exam CULET-UG and got the chance to get admission in one of the greatest law colleges in India.

Placement Experience:

Number of students who have been placed is far less than what it should be ideally. Kolkata is a paradise for law practice as it is the largest city of India and lawyers have always been in demand here. Still only 30% of the students are placed here and that's a big issue considering the name of our college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The main thing that I love about the curriculum is that we need to study in depth. Our syllabus contains most basic to really professional level stuff which really help us prepare for real life experiences and further academic pursuits. The only change i would like is more practical experiences that would be helpful.

I was fond of international reletaions in my +2 days, thats why I choose Political Science as my honours subject over History. Hence. later I found very boring and monotonous in the first year of its syllabus. After having 3 years of immense syllabus, I have finally fall in love with subject in the final as my beloved IR(International Relations) subjects finally came into my life. There was yearly only one exam contains 2 parts accumating questions.
