Course Curriculum Overview
I was always fascinated by cars and always wanted to work in a vehicle manufacturing organisation, sp there were two options to do so, one was Automobile Engineering, and other one was Mechanical Engineering. since Automobile Engineering course was not offered by my college I opted for Mechanical Engineering. Biggest problem in my Engineering curriculum at my time was the syllabus was way backword in its time. the real time application of how the work is done in todays world was no where to be seen in my curriculum, which was a result of my 5 years of struggle in my first job. the condition of curriculum is so poor that in real time your book knowledge is worthless in front of a 10th pass man with just two years of field experiance.
Internships Opportunities
As per my knowledge, there were no internships with stipend. for a final year project, you had to make a group of 5 students and come up with 2-3 ideas and a group must pitch those ideas in front of teachers. the teacher then suggests your group project out of those ideas you had pitched.
Placement Experience
there were two main rules to be eligible for campus placement. 1. You must have passed in all subjects without any A.T.K.T. or year down. 2. Total percentile for each year must be above 65% Names of the companies visted for campus placements- 1. IBM 2. TATA motors 3. Harley Davidson 4. Tech Mahindra 5. Wipro 6. Accenture 6. NVIDIA 7. BHEL 8. HAL 9. Bharat forge Highest package in my acedamic year was 22lakh/annum and average package was around 6lakh/annum. percentage of students getting placed was around 15-20% I had failed in two subjects in 2nd year of my BTech so i did not met the placement criteria set by college. after I got my degree I had completed a machine design course called CATIA & PRO ENGINEER after which i got placed in VolksWagen group as junior engineer with 4.5lakh/annum package.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees i paid for first year of B.Tech was 198000. which included 125000rs. as education fee, 45000rs. as hostel fee and 28000 as mess fee. Around 15-20% hike in all fees that i paid was reported per year for rest of the 3 years of my education. Other than this I paid 22000 for total of 4 years as admission fees, lab fees, dress code charges. the total fees which included everything for 4 years of my education was around 935000rs. My batchmates which were in categories like OBC, SC, ST required around 300000-500000 for total education based on a perticular category.
Campus Life
there were 3 major annual festivals which was world peace organisation summit which is a signature festival of MIT, during the fest many renowned personalities was invited including Prime Minister, president, various business tycoons, social workers etc. other fests included annual gatherings, cultural days, PTMs, etc. there were many technical festivals which a student can enroll in throughout the year. like BAHAseIndia moto sports, debate club, river rafting races, paper presentations etc.
Hostel Facilities
In hostel there was one bed, one study table and chair, and a cupboard. room had a tubelight and a celing fan. there was a entertainment room which had one TV, table tennis and few carrom tables. I watched a 2011 cricket world cup in that room which held 300 students there was a night when we received a noise complaint by neighbour society, police came and they also watched the match with us, unforgatable time. meal qualtiy was pathetic as always. registration process was simple, you just enroll your name as soon as possible and pay the fees and you get a room allotment. each room had 4 total roomamtes.
Admission
I had passed three yars of Diploma in Mechanical Enigineering with 84%. after passing I had applied for Btech in 5 colleges, COEP, MIT, SIT, KJCOE and VIT. in first round i got confirmed admission in KJCOE. the second round was in eight days and the admission closing date of KJCOE was in 15 days, so I decided to wait for the next round, and luckily one female student opted out of the course in MIT and I got the admission. I personally wanted to get in COEP as the placements and packages was highest in that college at my time, but the cut off was 89% that year so i did not got the admission. Admission process was simple, I just had to take my three years diploma marksheets, my HSC marksheet, my SSC marksheet, caste certificate, and domicile certificate.
Faculty
we had 60 students in one class, for those 60 students we had total of 16 faculty. which categorized as 1 head of the department, 5 full time teachers for 5 subjects, 4 teachers for lab work, 3 assistants for lab tasks and finally 3 workshops superiors for workshop. there was semister pattern for 4 years which included 40 subjects, each semister included 5 subjects, 5 4 assignments, and a group task which was compulsory to get minimum 35% in each one to pass the particular year. if I failed a perticular subject I got 2 more attempts to pass the perticular subject, otherwise there would be fear of year down, which meant I have to re- appear the perticular year all over again. around 80% of students pass the exam with few exceptions, as the guidence and preperation was very good year along.
Night Life
My college was loacated in Kothrud, Pune. which is a area of die hard Punekars if you know what i mean. it has it all, clubs, pubs, bars, gym, stadiums, theaters, malls, you name it. hostel gate opening time was 5am and closing time was 9pm.campus got closed at around 10pm but if you had project work or something like that you can spend the night by informing the authority. hangout places included cafe Durga, gupta uncles hotel, cafe coffee day, anna ka chai point etc.
