Course Curriculum Overview

5

Our curriculum is CBME based curriculum. It is more clinically oriented. We get to answer questions only after diagnosing the clinical case based questions. It focuses more on practical knowledge rather than just focusing on the theory part. It makes us ready to handle patients.

Internships Opportunities

4

After MBBS final year, we have one year internship in the hospital and the rural centre. The internship is mandatory for all MBBS students. But unlike certain colleges , there is no bond system here.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fee structure varies with each quota like the government quota , management quota and NRI quota. I got admission under the government quota. So my yearly fee structure is as follows: 1. Tuition fee - 450000 2. Hostel fee - 250000 3. Books and development fee - 100000 Hostel fee include the mess fee Books include every year's subject books both theory and practical along with notebooks and records I am a hosteller, but if you choose to be a dayscholar the fee for transportation is ?160000. I finished my schooling from a private school in chennai, but for students who have done their higher secondary from a government school there is a 7.5 reservation quota and students selected via this quota get a considerable reduction in their fee. Another reservation is for students who are going to be the first graduate from the family. They can also avail a great reduction in fee. They get a scholarship of ?150000.

Campus Life

5

Tagore medical college has an overall good campus life for its students. The culturals conducted here is called ASURA. The major cultural event that happens here is the Pongal celebration. It os typically held in the month of January every year. It includes various competitions and events like dance performances. The pongal celebration is celebrated with great enthusiasm here. Apart from that there is a annual Sports meet which is called as PORKALAM. It is a great opportunity for the Sportsperson to showcase their talent. This takes place in the month of May usually. Now, another favorite part of my college is their library. The library is open from 8 am to 8 pm. It has a wide range of books from every subject. From gold Standard books to last minute revision books, our library has it all. It also has access to prepladder which students can make use of for their concept clarification. And that is absolutely free of cost. The library and lecture halls are fully air conditioned. Lecture halls are installed with smartboards. Apart from all this, there is a student council run by the pre - final year students. There is also a Youth Red cross club in our college. The college also has a canteen offering wide range of food to choose from. From Juice, milkshakes, brownies and samosa to momos, fried rice and biriyani, our canteen has it all. So overall the campus offers wide arena of activities which makes the campus life memorable and fun.

Hostel Facilities

4

The boys and girls hostel are separated far from each other. The hostel room provided is non a/c. As of now a/c rooms are not available. It is shared by 3 people. The hostel room has the following: ? Attached bathroom ? Cupboard for books which is to be shared with the roommates ? Study table for each member ? A chair ? A cot ? An individual storage Cupboard. The hostel meal is south Indian and menu is different for each day lf the week. The food quality is decent. For breakfast, bread and jam, cornflakes, milk and Egg are provided daily along with the changing breakfast menu. The hostel is affordable compared to other self financing colleges.

Admission

I applied to all the government medical colleges across the country through All India quota. I also applied to all the state government colleges and semi government Colleges[ Self financing] through the State counselling. I didnt get accepted into government colleges because of high cut-off for the general category. I did get accepted into Srinivasa Private University before getting accepted into Tagore medical college. Srinivasa was still under construction and lacked patient flow. Another factor which made me choose Tagore medical college over Srinivasa medical college was the fee. Tuition fee - 560000 per year Total fee - 1100000 per year Another college which I got and didn't choose was Adiparasakthi Medical college, Melmaruvatur. The reason I didnt choose this college was it was very distant from my home in Chennai and there was no day scholar option available when i enquired. Overall with the comparison of all colleges I got I chose Tagore medical college as it was better off in every Aspect.

Faculty

5

The faculties in this college are great. They are very friendly and easily approachable. They clarify our doubts patiently. They are easily approachable, not just for academics but also regarding any issue or stress we face. The college provides a mentor for every 15 students. The mentors are there to guide us in every step. They teach us hiw to approach the subject, how to handle stress, etc. Our college follows a CBME curriculum. There are 8 IAs [ internal assessment ] every year which will be taken average and sent to the university at the year end. At the end of each year we have university exam for both theory and practicals. My favorite teachers from first year were Dr. Gopalan sir who is the HOD of the Anatomy Department. Dr. Vani ma'am who is a professor in anatomy Department. Dr. Navin Rajaratnam who's the HOD of the physiology Department. Dr. Rewanth Naik who is a Tutor in Physiology Department.

Night Life

3

The night life here is decent enough. The library is functional till 8 pm and allows students to study in a focused ambience. Gym is available in both boys and girls hostel and it is open till 9 pm. The hostel in time is 8:30 p.m from second year. For the first year students, hostel in time is 4:00 p.m. The locality has a lot of hangout spots nearby, including beach, mall and food court. My favourite hangout spot is the college library and foodcourt outside the campus. The locality is pretty safe but for girls you will have to be a extra careful.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very extensive and there are 18 subjects to study split over a period of 5 years which includes internship also. Though the curriculum is vast it is a scared job that has motivated me to choose this course. The curriculum and teaching methods help us in treating patients and improving our academics. Improvements that can be made includes improving the patient exposure and communication skills with practical expertise. The exams are conducted yearly once, with the paper being moderate to difficult. There should be more clinical orientation to improve clinical skills rather than only studying books and improving knowledge

I personally like science so i took up this course. The college prepares you very well for the real world. By the end of the 5years you would become a full fledged doctor. The current teaching methods are fine but more of mcqs should be concentrated rather than theory writing. According to me the internals are fine but the university exams are very difficult.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) is pretty relevant to today's needs of a doctor, with more competency based skill learning and regular assessment of students, along with subjects like attitude, ethics and communication skills, pandemic modules etc. The only disadvantage is it still has a few redundant systems such as record maintenance etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being a doctor, I can help people a lot. There is a lot to study and knowing the human body, to cure disease, and much more is a great experience. The curriculum prepares me to do great in my future endeavors. The thing I think they lack is a bit more clinical exposure for all students separately. Teaching methods are all good. They conduct exams after each important section, they teach. Around 6-7, internal exams are kept.
