Likes
- In department of economics faculties are really friendly and they help you whenever needed. Doubts can be clarified even after class hours.
- For BA ECONOMICS (Self financed ) college time is afternoon 1 pm to 6 pm. So you can do other extracurricular activities other than this timing.
- Course curriculum is not so complicated.
Dislikes
- Placements for BA economics is not so good as compared to Bcom.
- Internship Is compulsory which should be done by students itself without any help from college management.
- Rules are more strict for girls than compared to boys .
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is neither too good not too bad because some subjects are really useful like mathematical methods, statistics, macro economics and micro economics. Still there are some irrelevant subjects in our course. Also, most of the subjects are mostly theory based only.
Placement Experience
From final year onwards students are eligible for placements. Manu corporate companies visit like Deloitte, Accenture, EY etc.. To be honest there is no wide variety of opportunities for placements in economics department unlike computer science or bcom departments.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fee is around 27000 per semester which includes Development fees, lab fees etc.. scholarships are available if you meet the eligibility criteria. for example if your family income is less than 5 lakhs you are eligible. Still, each kind of scholarship has it own criteria. For Bcom tuition fee is around 40000 per semester.
Campus Life
There are many clubs in the college. students can join in any of these clubs which they like. Each club will conduct their own events, debates etc. intercollege fest will also be conducted which is separate for aided and self finance students which is EUPHORIA AND CASCALL. Library is very big , there are thousands of books of various streams. You can easily find a book by simply searching in the system and access it without any trouble.
Admission
I didn't apply for any college . I filled application only from PSG COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES. As it is one of renowned colleges in tamil nadu , I applied there. Admission process is not so cumbersome. I am from CBSE. As soon as results declared we were called to college and slots were given based on the marks scored. Then our of the available courses we can choose and pay the fees .
Faculty
So there are around 60 students in each class. Each department will consists of around 5 - 6 faculties. There will be 2 internals in one semester. So per year four internals and two semesters. Having minimum attendance percentage of 75 is mandatory to appear for exams.
Night Life
College timings are different for different streams. It starts from 7 am and ends by 6 pm. Each department will have 5 hours classes everyday from Monday to Saturday. For girls , college hostel is very strict. Curfew is 6 pm only. As college is situated in main road, it's quite safe in night time. Gym is available for both boys and girls separately. Daffodil is a place inside hostel where you can buy daily essentials, stationery, snacks etc.. For economics, physics and chemistry department (self financed) college timing is from afternoon 1 pm to 6 pm
