Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum followed by SRM is comprehensive and based on the latest syllabus recommended by ANNA UNIVERSITY. the books used for reference is always mentioned in the course action plan so that we can reference the same. the curriculum is built for real world application. Most courses are project based and hence require applying whatever is taught in class. the class tests are conducted periodically, in 3 phases. one at the start of term, one in the middle after 50% completion of portion and one near the end of sem. The areas of improvement i feel should be in making better ppts of the chapters. the ppts are hard to follow and contain many spelling and grammatical erros which make it hard to understand.

Internships Opportunities

4

internship opportunities start as early as 5th semester. most frequent companies are ibm, maruti suzuki, wells fargo, amazon and natwest. most offered stipend is 25k but it can go up to 75k. internships are offered after a round of resume shortlisting, online test and interview round. interviews are almost always based on very basic knowledge and about the projects you mention in your resume. so make sure to know every tiny detail about the projects listed in your resume

Placement Experience

4

one of the things srm is known for and is preferred for over other tamil colleges is due to the vast placement options. last year there was 70% placement and last to last year 100% placement was recorded. you become eligible to sit for campus placements from the 7th semester. There are a range of companies that come to srm for placements including microsoft, amazon, razorpay ibm wells fargo, bank of america, natwest, hp, dell, delloite, cognizent, capgemini, tcs and mitsubishi etc. the list is bigger but these are the major companies that come. The highest average package recorded was 10 lakhs with the highest package last year being 55lakhs. most students coming to srm come with the clear intention of getting placed. i plan to sit for placements too. Since there is a high number of students in the btech degree there is very high competition too for placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure for each course is different with btech core computer science having the highest demand with a maximum fee of 5 lakhs. I pay 4.5 lakhs per year for my course of btech computer science and engineering. The fee for specialization courses like btech software, cybersecurity, cloud computing, big data and ai/ml are fairly lesser. The fee range for any btech course ranges from 3.5 lakhs min to 5 lakhs maximum. The exam registration fee for admission is 1.4k per attempt with a maximum of 3 allowed attempts. The exam fees fro University exam is 1.7k with extra fine if paid after the deadline There is a scholarship provided for students who get a particular mark or above in the srmjee exam. The scholarship will be cancelled if the student fails to maintain a cgpa of 9 or above in all semesters There are acholarships given to wards of Soldiers or ex servicemen

Campus Life

4

srm provides as excellent college life especially because srm has a rich cultural diversity with students coming from all over the country. the infrastructure of the college is excellent with stairs, lawns and parks for students to sit and socialize in. there are 2 major fests in srm: aarush, a technical cum cultural fest and milan, the biggest cultural fest of srm. the srm library is large with dedicated 5 floors and books of all kind and subjects. the faculty are friendly and kind and very approachable. there is a mac lab with top class facilities. the campus also has an ncc division and various clubs. there are more than 20 technical clubs in srm in addition to various cultural and sports clubs.

Admission

I had applied to 2 other colleges. They are payyanur college in kerala, vit chennai and srm. the major reason i opted out of payyanur college is because it is an arts college and i felt i would have better professional chnances in a btech degree. the reason i opted out of vit was because they offered me an integrated mtech degree instead of a traditional btech degree. when i asked around i realized that a traditional btech degree is much preferred over an integrated mtech degree. further on assessing the various aspects of srm through known alumni i believedd srm would be a good choice for me. The admission process of srm is fairly simple. we have to register through the srm portal for the srmjee exam. there is an application fee of 1.4k. the exam has 3 phases and we can attempt in all 3 phases. once you write the exam you will be allotted courses according to your score. once you accept the course you will be asked to come for physical admission process with all the listed documents. the physical admission process happens relatively slower. The cutoffs in these exams change every year with the number of students appearing and overall scores. Students who get the first 10 ranks in srmjee are also eligible for scholarships.

Faculty

4

The faculty members are all mostly Friendly and approachable. If u excell at your work they might take u under them for an inhouse project. They also guide you though any problems you might have. Every class has an fa, i.e. Faculty advisor who is the point of contact between the rest of the department and the students. My fa devipriya ma'am was especially helpful and very cordial The exam structure is as follows: Total of 100 marks of which 60 are internal and 40 is the university theory exam There are courses that are completely internal. These courses are usually project based. For the 60 internal marks there will be 3 class tests and a few assignments. The ct exams are all from portions taight in class and are relatively easier to score. The university exams are a little harder.

Night Life

4

the hostels in srm are equipped with gym facilities. there are gyms in walking distance outside of srm too. the library stays open till 8 o clock where you can sit and study, public areas remain open to students till 11 o clock. the in time for girls is 6 30 and for boys its 9 pm. its a bit unfair but thats how it is. srm has a food court called java where there are more than 10 food stalls a subway and a pizza place. there is also a chai kings bobba tea and drunked monkey outlet. it is adviced to roam around in the campus after night for safety reasons. gyms are provided inside the campus for that purpose. there are football and basketball courts where anybody can play.

Other Applied Colleges

Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT] Chennai | Integrated M.tech

I got a 4 year bachelor degree on arm while vit only offered integrated (btech and mtech) degree. The former was the better degree
