What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is large and green, food is nice and diverse
- Range of languages and opportunities is large
- Diverse crowd, from all over India which makes it good to interact
Dislikes
- Too much crowd, not a lot of space to accomodate
- Curfew is too strict and not a lot of freedom after evening
- Classrooms are mediocre and very school-like. No college vibes
Course Curriculum Overview
Computer Science and Engineering is sought after and is a good course to study The syllabus is standard and very menial but nothing too fancy. Exams are taken based on the course material and nothing too hard
Internships Opportunities
There is a definite list of companies that come to SRM for internships and jobs mostly include deloitte, accenture, tcs and so on. They require a good base of programming and basic projects that are required of any student sitting for such placements and internships
Placement Experience
Placements are decent when considering the intake of students. Almost all students are placed mostly in mass recruiting companies like TCS and Accenture. Placement drives start from the 7th semester..
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fees is 4,80,000. The hostel fees ranges from 70,000-2,35,000 per year. Scholarships can be availed, granted, you have 9+cgpa (which is easily obtainable). Additional fees for exams and workshops are NOT INCLUSIVE in the fees.
Campus Life
There are two major fests, which are held in the months of October and February. They are handled by the two major clubs of SRM. Clubs are plenty and their involvement is good. Lots of diversity on basis of engagement and contact
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are too full, rooms are small and dingy, messy toilets (in the common sharing toilets), very strict rules which prohibit visiting other rooms in the middle of the night and so on, mess food is very bad in general
Admission
SRM has good reach abroad and influence as a good university. Admission process is very tedious and medivial, physical enrollment is very irritating and in general, some practices are very dated and feel ancient
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is decent, however faculty are junior professors who won't be of much help. Exams are easy, cycle tests are regular tests which are easy if you follow course material. Finals are very easy and can be prepared for a day in advance
Interview Experience
No interview, but there was a test called the SRMIST which you have to qualify and are alloted a seat considering your rank. The exam has 2 phases but the seats are filled on the basis of first come first serve
Night Life
Gym is horrible, night life is almost non-existent for a hostel student, and the neighbouring village has barely any places to visit. The only pro is that the main city, Chennai, is an hour away in train
