Course Curriculum Overview
I have done M.Sc in Biotechnology because it is rapidly growing field. It has a lot of technological advancements in the very near future. You can pursue P.hD after completing masters by clearing NET exam and some universities provide P.hD without NET also. This course makes you learn about laboratorical equipments and experiments which make you eligible to work in the best Central labs like ICMR, CSIR, etc. there are 4 semesters included in this course so exams are conducted 4 times throughout the course. Exams for 1st and 3rd semester are conducted in March and for 2nd and 4th semester in August or September. There are 4 subjects in this course, in every semester after written exams, viva and practicals are conducted and results are released on the basis of overall marks.
Internships Opportunities
After completing my 2nd semester, I started looking for internship opportunities which is of a duration of 3-6 months. You can apply in any research instituion or labs or can do it from university itself. Like my fellow students have done from well reputed places like ICMR NIOH-Ahmedabad, Farelab-Gurugram, CDRI-Lucknow, IGIB-New Delhi, Rapture Biotech.,etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The annual fee that I have paid for M.Sc Biotechnology is 17000 out of which 16500 is tuition fee and 500 is caution fee. there is a registration fee of 500 which is one time. This fees is same for all categories but the exam form fees per semester is different for different semesters which is in between 2000 and 3000.
Campus Life
When its your first day in college, first day is just a introductory session in which everyone gets to meet everyone including faculty members and the fellow students, so basically its just a ice break session. And after a days seniors prepare a freshers party for the new batch which can be in campus and can be outside at different venue also. and after the completion of a particular batch farewell party is also there. The student union prepares a cultural program in which we get a chance to showcase our talent like dancing, singing, speech, etc. On the ocasions of independence day, republic day and Gandhi Jayanti, these festivals are celebrated very greatly in which students can participate in Rangoli making competition, poster making, photoframe making, planting, etc.
Admission
At first I wanted to do M.Sc from Delhi University (DU) but then due to health issues parents denied sending me to other city so being a resident of Kota I have to find a college in Kota only. So I didn't get rejected from any collwge it just that due to bad circumstances I was unable to go. The I started searching colleges which provide M.Sc Biotechnology in Kota and I came to know that UOK is the only one to provide this course. It being a reputed college I filled application form for admission which charged me Rs.500. Selection was on the basis of percentage in graduation, which I qualified. If you make upto the merit list, then you are shortlisted for document verification process which happens offline in the department itself. The most numbers of seats in UOK is the department of pharmacy and number of seats varies with the department.
Faculty
There is faculty to student ratio of 1:20 so it is really good as faculty members can easily focus on every student. All the faculty members are very approchable, they take regular classes and available in staffroom anytime. They also try to build a friendly and healthy relationship with students by giving them their contact numbers so that students can communicate at personal level if needed. My department's HOD is Dr. Pallavi Sharma Ma'am, she is very cordial with students and with every staff member. She tries to make every member of department feel comfortable and confident to express themselves. There is not a single faculty member whom I disliked because everyone is very nice. They not only teach their specific subject but also guide students regarding their career and future also. Even after completing my degree, I sometimes contact for career oriented topics , they are always available. I think UOK has got the best faculty members.
Night Life
There is a very magnifying library inside the university campus which contains several spacious rooms for students so that they can sit there and study. You can also issue books by using digital card through a machine which is only for university students. There are wide variety of books present in the library out of which some are not easily available in the book stores. You can issue 3 books at a time from one card and have to return it within 15 days. There are no gyms, cafeterias inside the campus but they are present around the university area. The university is at a nearby distance from Khade Ganesh Ji Temple which is the only temple in Kota where Lord Ganesha's standing idol is present. The temple also has Ganesh Udhyan which is a very huge garden and you can go there for relaxation and it is also amazing for morning walk. The cafeterias around the university are suitable for every class of people and at a 1km distance D-Mart is present where you can every kind of stuff.
