What Students Say
Likes
- Our college's infrastructure is quite amazing, to be honest. The campus is clean and the buildings (even the toilets) are well-maintained
- There are quite a few events that keep happening on our campus, and people can join in as per their liking.
- The faculty, from what I've seen so far, is a total mixed bag. While some professors are great, others don't exactly teach as well as we'd like to be taught.
Dislikes
- The fact that the faculty isn't as great as I'd heard, while taking admission, is something that really let me down, personally.
- The fees is bound to increase almost every other year, which palces additional financial burden.
- Since VIPS is a part of IPU, we are allotted centres for our end semester exams. These centres can be situated in randomized and far locations, which makes things bothersome.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for B.A L.L.B is quite rigorous. We have about seven subjects in both the semesters of the first year itself, and the syllabus itself can be considered to be pretty vast. Each subject has four units and within those units, there are varying numbers of modules. As far as the curriculum's relevance is considered in the context of the outside world (ground reality), the curriculum certainly needs an upgradation, as it's mostly filled with theory and lacks practical aspects. Not to mention, from what I've seen, we will be taught the IPC and CrPC in the later years of our academic session, even though they have already been replaced by BNS and BNSS. I wonder why there are no changes in the syllabus in this regard yet. Furthermore, since VIPS is a part od IPU, we are basically taught what the other IPU affiliates' students are taught as well, since the curriculum is uniform across all colleges of IPU, even the government ones. I'd really appreciate it if changes in the curriculum are made, since it clearly needs an upgradation.
Fees and Financial Aid
For the first year, I paid ?150000 at the time of admission. As for the bifurcation of tuition fee and the rest, I am not quite sure. ?50,000, though, from what they said, was a one-time admissions charge. The fees for my batchmates from categories other than my own is more or less the same. As for the amounts of scholarships, we can avail the ones offered yearly by IPU (mostly for EWS students), if we meet the requirements.
Campus Life
A wide variety of events are held anually and their names change based on their themes. Usually, there are events for Freshers, Diwali, Dussehra, et cetera. Witnessing performances by students are common, during these events. Additionally, in B.A L.L.B, a lot of academic events such as Arguendo Moot Courts, Legal Aid Campaigns, Workshops et cetera are organized frequently. People can join various societies and participate as per their predilection. There are even a lot of technological and literary events as well as competitions that are held every yead. Within the classrooms, the facilities are great. The rooms are well-ventilated, have good lighting and are equipped with ACs, which are actually used on a daily basis, during summers. The cafeteria is clean as well and serves a wide variety of food. Sports culture at VIPS is present but it isn't as prominent as other societies' cultures. The crowd is nice as well.
Admission
I chose this college because I'm a resident of Delhi and within Delhi, VIPS is well-known for its law department. It was also a great option for me since it's located in a hubbub area with great connectivity, aside from the campus being close to my home. I wished to apply to NLUD initially but unfortunately, my AILET rank was not enough for me to get admitted there. The admittion process of VIPS is pretty centralized as it's a part of the IPU. We are supposed to apply from IPU's official website and make preference lists, once the counselling for admissions begin. After that, people are allotted colleges on the basis of their ranks and marks. There is state quota for Delhi residents as well. For my course, that is B.A L.L.B, one's CLAT rank is required for admissions. Once the online counselling ends, people shift to offline counselling and visit their campus for document verification. After everything is properly verified, a student is said to be enrolled. For the other courses, IPU has its own entrance tests. As far as the cutoff is concerned, it varies on two factors: a) Reservation b) State Quota
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio is alright. It's neither too great, nor to bad. Although the professors are ready to help out in case one needs assistance or has some doubts that need to be cleared, standing out to them will make things a lot easier for you, as the class size comprises of about 60 students on average. We have two main exams, per semester. Mid-semester exams and End-semester exams. Mid-semester exams are held within one's college grounds only, and are relatively easy. On the other hand, the End-semester exams are held at the "centres" allotted to the students of IPU. For internals, we are marked out of 40 and for externals, we are marked out of 60. The cumulative of these marks, measured out of 100, is regarded as the final score.
Night Life
There aren't any gyms at VIPS. Although, we do have a basketball court which is used frequently by the Sports Society's basket ball team. The cafeteria is great and hygienic, offering a wide variety of food. Although, it tends to be overcrowded a lot of times, especially during lunch break. VIPS has a great library and the books are really well-maintained. Although fictional books are scarce, one can easily find a huge varity of academic works with ease. VIPS doesn't have a hostel and as far as the campus timings are concerned, the college opens at 8:30 AM in the morning and closes at 6:00 PM. Students can stay in the library to study till 6:00 PM, after their classes. People here mostly hangout in the lawns, since they are clean and well-maintained, whilst also being equipped with benches. Aside from that, people also gather around near the cafeteria to socialize. The locality can be considered to be safe to roam around at night, since it's located near a banquet hall and metro line
