What Students Say
Likes
- All the professors and teachers are very helpful and most of them make sure to go out of their way to support us if we are worth supporting.
- During college's annual fest there are many competitions held , in which you can win 1000/500 to 30000/10000 based on the level of competitions.
- If you choose btech courses , then you are in a safe haven as this college supports btech students very much with industrial visits , extensive training programs and much more.
Dislikes
- Even if college faculty is good other staff is not so good, security guards , discipline personnel, accounts department , etc have a quite rude way of talking with students.
- College crowd is not much appreciative , there may not be ragging but you are targeted and behaved ill to. Many students have been involved in fights and more which reduces decorum.
- Even if there are prizes in college fest , many competitions are rigged and biased , so your talent may not be worth here.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have chosen BCA(DS) as it is the era of modern technology and computer skills are a neccessity now , along with DS (Data Science) specialization as this course: 1) Helps you understand in-trend skills like data analytics , R programming , etc. 2) Curriculum is technology intensive and each semester has at least one programming langauage for ex, c, java , python , r , etc. 3) Apart from theory you also get to learn practical skills which is also a part of curriculum. 4) My only suggestion would be to introduce project based learning methods which is taught to BTECH but not to BCA students.
Placement Experience
Placement opportunities are provided here , though I wont say they are great. BTECH gets good placement opportunities in comparison to others, BBA also get enough to start of their corporate journey and BCA doesnt get enough to kick start their earnings. Different companies have different requirmenets so it is safe to have minin=mum backlogs along with high CGPA to have access to placements. I have been placed already however the company is in no way related to BCA or IT for that matter but it is atleast an employement opportunity to start my journey.
Fees and Financial Aid
Quarter wise fees is around 16,000. Since i opt for bus services as well i have to pay 4000 extra, So my year wise fees comes to 20,000. There is a 2000 rupee security charge which is returned once you complete your course. There is no extra fee except studenet contribution to farewell, fresher , etc parties which is mostly close to 1000. I was provided 30,000 ruppee scholarship. This scholarship is provided to everyone via a quiz based on the course you are choosing. If you score good marks on the quiz you are provided scholarships. Your scholarship depends on your quiz score , 10-12th score , your category(general , sc/st , etc). So you fees can go very low if you are eligible. There is also a scheme where if you achieve a rank in university exams , you are provided concessions as well.
Campus Life
Every year there is one orientation for freshers before they start their college life to make them oriented with what they are going to face in college. After orienteation there is one freshers party where second year students pay a sum of around 1000 to organise a party at great level and club activites are started . There are numerous clubs including Kalakriti for art , GDSC for technology , Rythm for dance , singing , fashion show , etc , literary for literature , etc. Every wednesday last two hours of the day are seen as zero lecture where club activities are organized. After fresher we have annual fests where college organises 2 day event schedule with event line ups and competitions. There is also a farewell where graduating students celebrate with a one day event.
Admission
I applied to multiple colleges like DU , JCBUST , etc before joining ACEM . JCBUST rejected me as all their seats were filled. I did get a south campus DU but i rejeceted that as at end moment i decided i will opt for BCA , before which i was going after BBA. Thus i finally found ACEM which is a part of ymca university and is quite reputed around Haryana. Since ACEM is a private college you have to have at least 45% score in 12 th grade and for BTECH it is compulasry to be from PCM background. I being from commerce with maths , i chose BCA which is simillar to btech. If you have exceptional 12th score you are also awarded a scholarship.
Faculty
Each class has 60 students and each semester has around 5-6 subjects. So you get 5-6 teachers each semester. Majority of the faculity is great and easily approachable , and even if minority may not behave well they still will ensure you get around in your course duration. In each semester you have 7 exams , whicha re as follows: 1)Internal Sessionals - Half of semester's syllabus comes in this exam and is taken within 2 months of sem start. 2)Internal PUT- pre university tests constitute of full semester syllabus and is taken closer to semester end. 3)Internal viva - Taken at the end of semester as an oral test 4)Internal practical - Taken along with viva to test practical skills 5)External viva - Taken by an external professor of other college 6)External practical - Same as external viva but to check practical skills. 7)External Univesity Test - Final exam which makes upr your result. All these exams areeasy to clear and previous year question papers help out a lot to prep for coming exams. You can get record of PYQ from college libraries.
Night Life
If you are looking for a good campus, you wont find it here, There is one library where you can get PYQ records and multiple books which you can borrow for 21 days before you have to return them and reissue new books , 4 at a time. There is one cafeteria which is in poor condition , with high price and low quality. There is one ground which is quite huge so you can hang out there. There is one sports room which again is in pretty bad shape. The college is in quite a deserted area around farms and forests so there is nothing outside as well as inside and you cant leave college gates before 4 PM . So if you are looking to go on half day , you cant , since even cabs dont come here neither does auto-rikshas , and coming here with your own vehicle is quite risky due to the poor road quality .
