What Students Say
Likes
- The faculty is well-trained. They are specialized in their fields and have proper knowledge about their subjects.
- There is a shuttle bus service which is free of cost and travels inside campus and to some near places.
- The course is updated according to industry standards.
Dislikes
- The most of crowd there is uncultured. So sometimes it's difficult dealing with them.
- The Wi-Fi network speed varies from corner to corner and it's really bad near my room.
- There is a cultural difference for the people coming from allover the country. Becomes little difficult in that case.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is actually very informative and is up to the mark. It makes the students ready for the industry overall. I don't think the curriculum requires any improvement although teaching methods can be changed. They should teach more practically. Frequency of exams are a bit high but the difficulty is not that much. The end sems are very easy when compared to the internals.
Internships Opportunities
I am not really aware about the internship opportunities available with my college as I am in 3rd semester only right now. But I have heard that it is good a lot of my seniors are working as an intern in different companies but I am not much aware about it.
Placement Experience
The students are eligible for campus placements from 7th semester and they are placed in a company. A lot of companies visit to the campus while some of them being multinational companies. There are a lot of offers made. Students are divided into different categories according to their cgpa and only high cgpa students can apply for mnc. As I am currently in third semester so I don't know much about the offers but I have heard that the average package is 9 lpa and almost 90% and 95% of students are placed. I myself for now want to get placed in a good mnc or any high paying job and then in future I can probably think about startup.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee according to me is very high. The tuition fee for my course is 4.5 LPA. The hostel fee varies from 1.1 LPA to even 3 LPA. I've chosen a non ac room with common washroom that's why it's 1.25 LPA for me. There was no other fee at the time of admission. But for college fests they charge a certain amount such as 2k or something. For CSE CORE it's 4.5 lpa but for other branches and specializations it's little less such as 3.5lpa. the scholarships available are not really helpful. THere are a few categories such as defense, merit and all but I got none of those.
Campus Life
The campus life is pretty basic considering it is a really well known college. There are two big fests every year called Aarush and Milan where lot of big celebrities come to perform but they charge a separate fee for these fests which I don't like so till now I have only gone to Aarush once. Aarush is conducted usually in October and Milan in March but this year Aarush got postponed to January because of the cyclone. The library is really big it has a lot of books which are really helpful for the course exams and also a lot of other books as well. Some of the classrooms have projectors and smart boards. There are two big grounds in the campus but only one is available for general use in other only the teams play. There are a lot of technical and non technical clubs. I myself am part of one. So it is pretty good
Hostel Facilities
I have chosen a non ac common washroom hostel. Inside my room there are two more people living other than me. Each of them having their own almirah table and chair and bed. there are two fans in my room and three switchboards. The hostel food is good but sometimes it's very bad like it depends on the day which is so according to that schedule the food is sometimes good and sometimes bad. The hostel registration process is really easy you can pay using net banking but a lot of people don't get hostel rooms because there are limited rooms available. Ac room is not that affordable as it starts from 2.25 whereas my hostel is 1.25 lakhs.
Admission
One of my relatives studied in this college and he is now in a big mnc. So that motivated me to go to SRM. Other colleges were not that good. I was getting VIT Vellore and Manipal but I didn't like what I heard about those. I was rejected from BITS and IITs. Although I was getiing CSE in some lower NITs but that wasn't much fruitful according to me. I couldn't get enough marks. So I chose SRM. It had an online entrance exam so it was easy. Most of the people here chosse BTech in CSE CORE or AI/ML. And so did I. Admission is very easy tbh.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio in first year was 1:72 and now in second year it is 1:60, which in my opinion is very low. I liked my Chemistry professor (Ananthanaryanan) although I hate that subject, also my maths professor (Suman Ghosh). There teaching was so good I scored really great in the subjects I find hard. I didn't like my Operating Systems professor (Ramkumar) because he only taught a part of class and not all students and also gave them extra marks, and my Computer Architecture professor (Godfrey) because he used to be very rude. We have three internal exams for almost subjects and one end sems. The exams are although very easy. I myself scored 9.7 in first year. Almost everyone passes. The course is actually relevent.
Interview Experience
There was an online entrance examination which was actually of the JEE Mains level. The questions were pretty basic. Also it was proctored but I don't think anyone was looking at me because I heard a lot of people who were cheating in the exam using different methods and still got high marks without getting caught. So that's why it doesn't matter much. Well I didn't prepare much for this because I was preparing for JEE for two years now so it was pretty easy.
Night Life
There is no nightlife in or around the college campus as I live in hostel so I am not allowed to go outside after 9:00 PM which I don't really like but I have to follow. There is a gym inside the campus only and some of them are nearby the campus as well. There are a lot of cafeterias inside and outside the campus. There is a library inside the campus. Boys can go outside hostel till 9:00 PM and girls till 7:00 PM. There are some places like big malls like Phoenix Mall and there are a lot of beaches in Chennai so you can probably visit there. There is no nothing as good to hangout inside the campus though. The locality is not really safe as I've seen people were fighting and were hurt.
