What Students Say
Likes
- I liked the fact that the placement cell of SRM Valliammai engineering college were never compromising on anything that relates to job offers, they push students to apply for a wider range of corporate companies and have tie-ups with most of them.
- The library facility adds up to other thing that I liked. You can opt for books from the library from your identity card itself and make use of libraries throughout the day.
- The canteen facility for the day scholar students is another interesting fact that gives you food at affordable prices with a good quality if incase you had to forget your home food on some ospicious days
Dislikes
- The transportation facility for day scholars is very limited. The bus facility comes for a cost and that doesn't really cover most of the important parts of the city so it was a drawback for people who were opting for comfort over convenience.
- The exam schedules were not really published professionally rather I could recall it was sent as pictures on whatsapp groups, this happened all the way upto the end semester examinations that really had some impact though.
- The entire campus revolves around a single building so there were days one have to wait for a long time for the lift or also there were some instances were the lift becomes un operational and students had to climb the stairs.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum depends on the regulation that you come under, people who opt for the 2019 regulation have it different from the people who come under 2017 regulation and goes on, The detailed list of syllabus and questionnaires are available in the website.
Internships Opportunities
There are some internship opportunities provided through campus placements but apart from that I couldn't recall if there was anything else. People can opt for internships outside the campus and can request for permission for the same to the principal.
Placement Experience
The placement cell is really pushing students to go above and beyond to grab job offers from different streams. On an average you can expect companies frim 3 lakh per annum to 12 lakh per annum coming in for placement drives.
Fees and Financial Aid
SRM Valliammai engineering college is a great place for someone looking for starting their under graduation. They have provided under graduation on engineering stream for me. Alongside as of my knowledge there are MBA and ME programmes for various branches of engineering. There were some PhD scholars doing their research works too. The engineering stream that I opted was computer science and engineering. I joined during the covid period through counselling were the fee structure was close to 85000 per year. I didn't opt for any kind of hostel facilities but as per my knowledge they were charging close to 100000 per year that includes your food and accommodation. Some people really move out of hostel facility by their second or third year for numerous reasons. Academics wise I would rate this college to be on 7 out of 10. You can choose to be your own self as no one really bothers if you have any backlogs. So the hardworking ones always have the opportunity to be recognized and rewarded. There are limited opportunities on sports and extra curricular activities like national social service or national cadet corps which gives you some insights on their outside world of curriculums. I paid close to 90000 for the first year and 80000 for the remaining years. The placement cell asks for a fee of 5000 and some scholarships are provided on tuition fee for students of SC,ST. The affordability of students ais really dynamic and I can also highlight one another fact being that the students who didn't get through the counselling and opting to get through managament had to pay some extra fee that adds up to your tuition fee of 80000. Most of my classmates were paying less than two lakhs in total even if they had opted for management and this excludes your hostel fee structure. After I graduated I heard the fee structure was revised for the junior batches. Kindly check with the management for any further updates for the same.
Campus Life
The campus life is really depending on the perspective of a student. If they are here to enjoy they can partly make use of the facilities provided to the SRM University which is in the same place but if you opt for education you can do that with full dedication as well.
Admission
I have applied to rajalakshmi engineering college as well which was known for its excellence but the main drawback being that place is overcrowded and the transportation facilities were difficult also it was quite expensive. These things were sorted for me in SRM Valliammai engineering college already.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio typically is around 1:50 for every 50 students there will be one faculty and they are mostly friendly helping in doubt solvings and personally help you with professional guidance to some extent. For each semester there are two internal exams called continuous assessment tests which rewards as your internal marks of 50 for your end semesters along with this there are practical exams too that must be cleared for your laboratory which is a part of your academics.
Night Life
Myself, I am a dayscholar. I could hardly count the days were I stayed there beyond sunset and I remember my hostel friends reporting back to their facilities before 6pm and there were no gym facilities available as well but library was there for hostellers.
