What Students Say
Likes
- Good and helpful faculty who actually care about youu and will take out their time to properly help you understand the topic if you didn't understand the first time
- The hostel rooms are nice and Spacey with a balcony and ample ventilation, depending on where your room is you also get a nice view of the farm nearby
- They conduct alot of competitions, events and seminars etc. making it a great opportunity to learn and grow.
Dislikes
- There is (as of now) no internet in the hostel buildings, making it difficult for the hostelers to study properly. You also barely get network in your room depending on the positioning of your room(they said they'll be fixing this issue soon)
- The management is lacking and really slow in doing stuff properly. They say they'll do stuff but take really long to actually properly do it, and meanwhile they give some bad alternative or sometimes no alternative at all.
- There is apparently some rule(never heard of) in the college which the girl warden tells them, that girls and boys are not allowed to interact even a bit. Like no standing together, walking, talking or eating which I find stupid.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum has a few courses which are relevant to the field, but also courses which I find absurd like "Philosophy of Engineering" or "Constitution of India". Most of the curriculum does prepare us for real life applications but yeah like every other colleges, that alone isn't enough and you need to do stuff on your own as well. They could improve the curriculum by taking out the unnecessary subjects. There are 2-3 exams per semester excluding the End Semester examinations. These are named CLAs. The internal score holds 60% weightage while the external end semester exam holds 40%. The CLAs are 1.5hrs long and of 50 marks while the semester exam is 3hrs long and of 75 marks.
Internships Opportunities
The college has numerous internship opportunities for students regularly. The students need to have done some self projects and have a good CGPA in the college to be able to be qualified for applying to the internships. The companies usually give the role of junior developer and such with stipend of around 10000.
Placement Experience
The placement in our college seems to be decent with the maximum package yet(in the 4 years of it having CSE course) was 50lpa. It get visitations from companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro Google, Amazon, etc. and alot of offers are made. Average package seems to be around 7Lpa and about 70% students are getting placements. I personally plan to open a startup after college or would try to get placed in a FAANG company.
Fees and Financial Aid
The Tuition fees is 225000, but if you give the SRMJEE and score a good rank, you will get scholarship accordingly. I personally got 40% scholarship at 1901 rank, making my fees 1,35,000 per annum. There is also a hidden charge of 40,000 that they charge after you join the college which the say is for BOOKS AND CDC. To give the end-semester exams, you have to pay hall pass fees which for us in the 1st semester is 3700.
Campus Life
As the college is a new one and it's getting more buildings made, the infrastructure has been getting better. We have ground for playing football, cricket, volleyball court, basketball court and handball ground. There is also a huge library in the Campus named 'Central Library' which is equipped with many books and journals, and a smaller one in the college itself where students can go to study. Each class is equipped with a whiteboard and a smart board so the teachers mostly teach on that. There are alot of clubs and they regularly hold fun competitions and meets which everyone can participate in (I personally participated in a few and won). There are also seminars held regularly at the college and some Tech Festivals where you can participate in and lots of stalls are present.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is nice in some parts and bad in the others. The room provided are really good with a study table study lamp and an in-room bathroom and balcony. The meal quality depends on personal preference but I find it okayish - good depending on the food of the day. The hostel costs 1,45,000 for 3-sharing and about 1,20,000 for 6 sharing. There are also AC rooms in both which costs 45,000 extra and has a split AC installed.
Admission
I had applied to a number of colleges including VIT, SRM, Amity, LPU, Chandigarh University and DU. I got confirmed admission from every university except DU as I didn't meet the score required to qualify for the college. I gave exams for the other college like VITEE, SRMJEEE, and a scholarship examination for Chandigarh University. I got accepted in each but I didn't go to VIT as the fees was coming too high for us to afford, as I got Category 5. I didn't choose Amity and LPU as they are known for not having a good study environment. I rejected Chandigarh University as I heard from my brother studying there that there are way too many students there and most of them aren't getting placements. So I chose SRM as it has a good study environment , isn't known for anything bad and wasnt saturated with students. I wrote the SRMJEEE exam and got qualified for 40% scholarship in SRMIST tiruchirappalli after getting a rank of 1901. Cutoff for getting CSE in SRMIST tiruchirappalli is about 12000 in SRMJEEE.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio is reasonable, allowing for some individual attention. Most faculty members are approachable and willing to assist students. However, a few professors could improve their teaching methods to make the subjects more engaging. The course structure is fine, but the curriculum has alot of unnecessary subjects. The exam pattern is fair, but the difficulty level can vary. While the pass rate is satisfactory, some students might find the exams challenging due to the rigorous nature of the course. Overall, the academic experience is positive, with opportunities for both learning and personal growth.
Night Life
There are a few places people usually go after the class like the food truck, or the 'Basil' Restaurant or to the mart which is basically like a grocery store. The campus also has 2 temples where you can go to pray. At night time tho the hostel students can't go out after 7:30 as of now and even worse for girls it's 6:00p.m. the most famous hangout spot here is the mart or the basil restaurant. The campus is really safe with lights everywhere and security guards at regular intervals.
