Hostel Facilities

5

The boys hostel have single room for each student unlike girls hostel where sharing is mandatory. There is a single bed , an almirah , a study table , tubelight, book shelf provided in the room already. Students have to bring their own mattress. Each room has attached balcony with them. There is 24/7 electricity availablity. Also , each room is given an ethernet cable for free internet. We are provided four meals per day in our mess viz breakfast, lunch , snacks and dinner. The mess timings are :- 1. Breakfast :- 7:30 - 9:30 am 2. Lunch :- 12:30 - 2:30 pm 3. Snacks :- 5 - 6 pm 4. Dinner :- 8 - 9:30 pm The food provided in the mess is quite good. Very simple and healthy delicious food . Neither too spicy nor too boiled . A perfect combination of taste and health . And to those who find hostel food bad are maybe living in home with home food or they are foodie and rich to afford outside food daily . To apply for hostel you must pay your fee first and then choose your room on college website. On comparison with mates living in PG , hostel sounds cheaper as in 7000rs per month we are getting food , internet, electricity, single room whereas in PG they are paying 7000rs per month for sharing room , 3 times meal and paying extra for transport fares. Moreover, hostel people can roam in the campus when bored and enjoy every festival there.

Admission

There are several other colleges where I applied for. National Forensic Science University ( NFSU ) , Delhi University ( DU ) , and many more . I prepared for forensic science and appeared for NFAT to take admission in NFSU which is the IIT of forensic courses . But I couldn't get admission into it because it was far from my hometown and it was expensive too. GBU offers a wide range of courses including Bsc in Forensic Science where one can have opportunity to make career in his dream job with reasonable amount of fee . My course ( Msc Applied chemistry) requires 50% in graduation from any recognised university in India . I was eligible for that and no other college in North India could be a better option for me to take admission in.

Msc Applied chemistry includes four subjects in firdst semester and each subject has its faculty . My class strength is 12 in which there are 7 girls and 5 boys . So its easy for a teacher to maintain focus on each and every student. The names are : 1. Dr. Jaya Maitra ( physical chemistry ) 2. Dr. Upma Singh ( inorganic chemistry ) 3. Dr. Vandana Singh ( organic chemistry ) 4. Dr. Ruchi Lamba ( characterization techniques ) 5. Dr. Rajesh Sharma ( Head of the Department ) My personal favourite is dr. Jaya Maitra . She is the best teacher in my life . The way she teaches , the efforts she makes to make us understand is beyond expalnation. Talking about the exams , there are four exams and three practicals in end semester and four tests in mid semester. The difficulty level of the exams is moderate but if youb study the previuos year question papers of the subjects you can easily pass the exams but if you want to male a good score then you have to study thoroughly the concepts . The marking schemes is quite good as no teacher wants to see you getting fail in exams . There is mid semester exam of 25 marks each followed by end semester exams of 60 marks each and internal of 15 marks each . You have to score 41 marks together to clear the semester without back . Although it may semm easy but its not in fact. Every year around 40% of class strength fails to qualify in inorganic chemistry .

Night Life

GBU campus has everything anyone could need. There is a common gym beside the Psychology department open in the evening for both girls and boys. Library usually opens 24/7 but once there was unethical things done in our library so now it opens only upto 9 am - 5 pm . There are 3 cafes : one in management dept , one at the gate no 1 and one behind library. You can hangout anytime you want but only upto 7pm . There is a shopping complex at gate no 5 which has 3 cyber cafes , 3 confectionery and 1 restaurant. It opens upto 12 am midnight. Many boys and girls hangout there but it is quite expensive. The boys and girls hostels are separated. Where boys hostel close at 10pm , girls hostel closed at 7pm. Even the security and warden are strict in girls hostel. But if you want to hangout ,you can do that in campus as area. There is a Sarovar with huge statues where people sit for hours .

Course Curriculum Overview:

This is a postgraduate course so I took admitted to this course because I want to become a lecturer (Professor). So after doing this I want to pursue a doctorate degree. Teacher student ratio in this course is 1:60 In this college, there are both permanent faculty and guest faculty. Permanent faculty has better teaching skills than the guest faculty because the majority of them are students who pursue doctorate degrees under the guidance of this college's Professors. They generally lack experience. The teaching method is excellent for permanent faculty. Exams are held timely. One is held in the month of December and the other in May. There are four semesters in this course. The paper level is difficult. One needs a descriptive knowledge of the subject to score good marks in examinations. Previous year papers can provide a lot of help.
